During strength training, the body requires energy to perform the exercises, which can cause a release of glucose from the liver into the bloodstream to provide energy for the muscles. Additionally, stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol are released during strength training, which can cause insulin resistance and lead to a temporary increase in blood glucose levels.
On the other hand, during cardio exercises such as running, cycling, or swimming, the body uses up glucose for energy. As a result, blood glucose levels tend to decrease during and immediately after cardio exercise.
It's important to note that the effect of exercise on blood glucose levels can vary depending on several factors, including the intensity and duration of the exercise, insulin dosing and timing, carbohydrate intake, and individual differences in insulin sensitivity and glucose regulation. Therefore, people with Type 1 diabetes should work with their healthcare team to develop an individualized exercise plan that takes into account their unique needs and goals.

Hannah I just started swimming recently and am using the Omnipod Dash for swimming and then when the pod expires I put my Tandem back on. Swimming is making my blood sugars go high even if I haven’t eaten in the morning before going swimming and also ended up with very high ketones in my urine. Can you please help me understand why that this is happening Hannah?
