We’re homeschooling now. We’re in our 3rd/4th year now. I have two boys, ages 11 & 10. We’ve tried so many different options in the last 3 years and it felt like I was trying to fit a square into a triangle. So now we’re diving into unschooling and letting go of formal curriculum (mostly). We’re only two days in but it’s felt so freeing and my kids and I have had so many beautiful moments that used to get squashed away by my to do lists, stress, and yelling. It is a breath of fresh air ❤

I’m so glad to hear that! Keep prioritizing connection and communication - you’ll discover learning happening all over the place! Might want to go back and deschool a little more too - I have a deschooling playlist here! Congrats for being brave enough to try this! ❤

Also, school is hard for my ASD child because the lessons, activities, and work tend to be abstract.

Exactly! It's so odd how schools don't implement their own educational research!

I have homeschooled since the beginning (oldest is 13). We have always been more on the relaxed side of homeschooling. I've seen such fruit from that mindset so now I am considering relaxing even more for the high school years!

It works! All the worries you have about it are not valid anymore. Kids get into college, have careers, move into adulthood without duplicating that all-too-familiar school way of doing the "high school" years. Yay for you - and for your kids!!!

Unschooling already as we’ve tried every curriculum invented or it seems that way anyway, I do struggle with my own nagging thoughts as I don’t know many unschooling families but I know I could not go back because I know it doesn’t work for us

Some of us have to try everyting out first to see that it was really just the marketing. The curriculum itself? meh. And the relevance for our learners... often non-existent! I'd love to get you more support within my membership group. Lots of parents in there have had this same path toward unschooling. Surrounding yourself - even if that means only a couple of Zoom calls a week or a WhatsApp channel for connection - can really give you the strength you need when those nagging thoughts start to do their thing. And I'm in there all the time, so I'll help you too! The link is in the video description, if you need it. www.unschoolingmom2mom.com/youtube (not sure if this will hyperlink for you, but we'll see!)

the nagging thoughts are always popping into my head! I keep reminding myself that "regular" schooling doesn't work for us and we dislike having to conform to all of the "school" rules. We live by the "life" rules. When you think the children aren't learning, they say something and you are like, WOW!

I love our summers because that is the season when we are more like unschoolers. I’m excited to hear how you approached unschooling. Just subscribed. We are also military. And I also have a channel that has tons of homeschooling focus. I would love to be friends and connect here 😊 looking forward to watching more of your content!

It's an interesting path... Unschooling seems so very weird at first. And then, the more you do it ,the more LOGICAL it seems. It's our natural way of learning - even how adults choose to learn in the real world. School learning and that approach, is best if you stay in a school setting and memorize easily. But, real life isn't like that at all. Welcome to all of it!
@rachelleherbert7922

I don’t think it’s weird. I really like it! You’re totally right , that IS the way adults learn. I do believe that if they are interested in the subject they will restrain the information . The more challenging thing for me is trusting the flow. But like you said there is no right or wrong way we all have to figure out what works for us. It is a beautiful journey. I’m so grateful I get to have with my kids. Thank you for all this great information.
