@Philippe H He sure did! I was just starting high school and my first job right around this time. I was around 15/16 years old. I got out of work at 10:30PM on Saturday nights and came right home to watch SNL & the incredible greatness of Eddie Murphy. This friend of mine I worked with watched it as well & we would recite the funny skits/sketches all week until the next episode. His rise to fame happened so fast! He was doing movies then he hosted the show for the 1984 Christmas episode & he left and didn't come back until the 40TH Anniversary Special in 2015 and then he finally hosted an episode in 2019 which was awesome! I have watched SNL since season ONE. My Dad watched it so we did as well & I loved the show from the first episode. My Dad stopped watching it once the original cast left & it became something I did. The show was huge during the original cast period. Everywhere you were everyone stopped and put the shop on. After they left it really sucked for a season or so but Eddie Murphy brought that element back and once again everything stopped at 11:30PM on Saturday night to watch him. I can still remember certain episodes like his opening sketch to call in either yes or no if you wanted him to cook Larry the Lobster LOLOL The episode with Smokey Robinson as the musical guest and Mr T hosted. He did a Mr. Robinson's neighborhood skit banging away on Smokey Robinson's drummer's drum kit. He said something like "Smokey Robinson is in town and they left their van door open so I took these drums." Then there was loud banging on his door and an arm came through the door ... it was his new neighbor Mr. T ... He grabbed Eddie by the throat and looked into the camera and said "Hi kids, the word for today is PAIN!" Classic stuff. They say that because Chevy Chase left after season one it set it up so it was OK for other members to leave & be replaced. I say that by having all of them leave and then having a lame season followed by a new rising star taking over it set the show up for a pattern like that to follow several other times over the years. There was a lame season or two after Eddie left but then we got to watch Dana Carvey, Kevin Nealon, Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks, Dennis Miller, Etc... If my memory still works I think Rolling Stone ranked Eddie Murphy as the 2ND best & most important cast member behind John Belushi and I would agree with that. I would LOVE to see Eddie do more sketch comedy and stand up at this point in his career. He is one of the best at it.

Mary Gross joined SNL in 1981, during the show's 7th season following the show's disastrous sixth season, when the show was almost canceled.[3]Gross became co-anchor of SNL's Weekend Update segment during her first season. Gross left in 1985 along with the rest of the cast, following executive producer Dick Ebersol's departure from the show.

Whoever wrote this script is so on point about the Modern Art scene, not more than a month ago someone bought a banana duck-taped to a wall for $120,000 . Not a painting of a banana, not a sculpture of a banana, AN ACTUAL BANANA. being that this sketch was aired in 1982 is based in new york and talks about the next best thing to Andy Warhol, i think the sketch writers character Tyrone Green is about Jean-Michel Basquiat correct me if i'm wrong. There are much better painters that deserve more recognition, such as Kehinde Wiley his work is phenomenal.

It gets airtime everyday and every nigh no matter the channel no matter the audience. The truth is that is how the Democrats keep black people blinded. If all white people wanted to hold black people in slavery instead of just them that makes it easy for the one's that truly STILL want black oppression to stay in power. You see if you piss off the ones that give a shit about America and all our people and we stop caring a little and then a little less more eventually they will be able to enslave you again and before you say I like to see them try try looking at 270 million who hold all the money versus 33 millions who have been crippled by government programs. Wake up Black America the Democrats haven't changed their beliefs they have changed yours.

I’m sure the movie “American Fiction” was partially inspired by this sketch, in regard to a criminal being lauded by bourgeois liberals in the Arts.

That was what they intended. it;s a brilliant piece of writing. Eddie played the stereotype but his Poem was REAL. The silly whites thought he was kidding . Tyrone was keepin it real lol
