Everybody is playing in the same conditions at the same time which makes it fair for all and game is finished in 5 hours instead of 10.

The shotgun start enables more excitement throughout, and especially at the end, because there is more volatility when the entire field is active.

It's a selfish reason, not a fan enjoyment issue. I personally like the shotgun start, it keeps thing more interesting down to the last minute.

I haven't got into LIV golf tbh. Not sold on it. Unconvinced it's good for golf ⛳️ time will tell

The shotgun start is what makes liv appealing for the viewer. I can see why the players don’t enjoy having to deal with a crowded range. Golfers are entertainers for the fans.

I love the shotgun start in liv golf. Everybody starts play at the same time in the same conditions. I always hated it on the PGA tour when the first t times were at 8:05 for the guys not in contention and the leader went off at 2. Weather changes from morning to afternoon.

LIV golf must keep two things or it will fail as a fan experience. 1. The teams 2. The shotgun start

The top 9 players on day 3 don't have this problem (sometimes it's only 6). They all tee off on 1. Especially the two feature groups. They start after everyone else and there's no one on the putting green. So like Koepka said, just play better? I do understand his point about being shuttled to the other side of the course though.

My son and I went to LIV Vegas to see what it was all about. The first thing that caught our attention was how congested the range and practice green were. Half of the field was on the Driving Range cramped together in what had to feel claustrophobic as they were literally hitting on top of each other. The other half were putting to some random tees or something they dropped on the putting green. Except DJ - we never saw him and he won the tournament, LOL. Anyway, it might be a little better with courses that have larger driving ranges but I get where Tyrrell is coming from. Also, trying to watch the play at the tournament is brutal with a shotgun start. It might be fine for TV, but it's terrible for fans on property. The music, particularly the volume, is horrendous. But it's fun to get up and close to see some of these guys hit shots.

one of the challenges this year has been that the resorts/courses played so far dont have the biggest facilities, such as the vegas driving range only 170 yards long so using nets for longer clubs etc. should be easier on the bigger/multi course resorts where they will convert the other course into a range/ practice area. similar to how majors/big events do ie princes/royal st georges

I also find the broadcast of the tournaments to be a problem. Very jumpy- here is this player putting, now this player putting, now this player driving---hard to follow. PGA broadcasts spend more time with some players and allow the viewer to watch some players tee to green and hence is more engaging.

Jon Rahm seems to love the team format and he also influenced the counting of all players scores on the third day. I'm not sure that LIV will ever be able to meet the OWGR desire for a "cut" because the team format requires all members for the three rounds. When I watch LIV now I'm watching the pylon to see how individuals and teams are doing. And I can tell you this, those guys ARE playing for each other and even when they are having a bad day they are grinding to make pars to keep their team alive. Day 3 of a LIV event is nerve-wracking because it's a race to the finish and it can change with two holes left to play. Tyrell has been a big part of some great team wins..... he'll come around.

I think it would be better with the 2 tee start. I enjoy knowing the different holes and how they play. With shotgun I'm just watching the player but have no idea how different holes are playing

This chat was almost a week ago. It was a casual conversation and hatton just said he not in love with the extra time needed to get to further tees. BUT He’s not thinking about the product, he’s just thinking about his convenience. Shotgun starts is like a car race. Like a soccer game. It’s outstanding the way it is. It should not change to save Tyrell 5 min. Or to appease traditionalists. And there is precedent being further from 1 tee. Pebble beach for example: the range is a 15 min walk to tee 1 and a 15 minute car ride out to tee 10. LACC also had the range quite removed. Theres many examples. If that’s all a guy like Tyrell cannot love, that’s pretty good. Imo. LIv has proven to be Extremely open with the format but some things have proven great value, such as shotgun starts. I’m ok with 2 groups off 1 tee but even that slows the event down a bit. I actually would love to see how only 1 group teeing off 1 on Sunday would work. All I know is I’m about to go watch pga tour now and I’m dreading the hour plus of having to wait for the groups to tee off 1 by 1. It feels like a waste of time. And I know that time will also be increased on the back end. Tyrell is gonna have to get used to it. Shotgun starts are here to stay just as much as LIv is.

Honestly, and I do hate LIV, but this is just a fact: nothing says Beer and a good time hacking more than shorts, music and a shot-gun start. I've yet to finish one of those without being tipsy.

I'm not a fan of all the music and the cheesy team names, but the shotgun start, the team format, and the non-pretentious attitude make LIV a cool alternative to the PGA. The previously mentioned comment about everyone playing under the same conditions is a really good point. Think about recent PGA tournaments or majors in which the later starts got more favorable or maybe less favorable weather and conditions than the early starts. The biggest draw to LIV is that it's a huge middle finger to the hypocritical establishment that takes huge amounts of Saudi and Chinese money, then pretends to take moral high ground when it comes to LIV's Saudi money source. Hopefully after the merger is finished we can actually watch LIV events somewhere other than on KZfaq.

The real problem is LIV's application for world golf ranking points has been withdrawn or abandoned. That's bad for PGA/R&A and bad for LIV. LIV's field is often better than PGA Tour events.

LIV has no heart to it. It is purely about money and no substance. Also they need to get some serious talent on their roster not a bunch of has beens, but for a couple of exceptions. Not that it would help. I watched the Arnold Palmer event this week. The tournament had meaning, it held the values of wonderful golfers like Palmer himself that carries through to guys like Scheffler. This tournament is not alone in having a moral compass despite the extraordinary money up for grabs. Maybe Hatton is thinking life is not just about the money, especially when he has earned a significant amount even before he joined LIV.

Final round should have 3 groups tee off from 1. First round slots should be determined by season standings. Play better if you want to tee off closer to 1.

I have no doubt that for $60m he'll find a way to love the shotgun start.

I cannot bear with the music, it is extremely annoying. I am Spanish and they are all now at LIV, but I just hate watching it, I want to watch golf, not to listen to loud techno music in the background. And about the shotgun, when I watch the PGA Tour, I end up knowing every hole and understanding the course, on LIV I do not get this feeling, they show the holes, yes, but there is no connection.

My thought is that LIV should play one four round tournament and just sit back and see if the OWGR starts sweating. The OWGR is in bed with the PGAT. If they threw in a four round tournament, I’d love to see how the OWGR craps their pants with the excuses for not giving the LIV players points for that week. Then everyone could see the corruption in real time.

Alex tbh I can’t see how any of this format generates competitive athletes, traditional golf is playing for your dinner ( or your next hefty wage) but why do LIV care about their performance ( I don’t for sure rich getting richer). Tweaks make little or no difference and furthermore who cares about teams….can’t see the attraction overall !

Hey instead of listening to multi millionaires whining, how about they ban caddies assisting them with yardages, reading lines of putts etc and just carry their clubs. We will soon see how marvellous these pampered stars really are when it’s all back to basics.😊🇬🇧🇬🇧

Liv format totally Sucks ANY quality player or Golf Manager / architect will know that the great golf courses are planned and laid out to bring the round to a rising level of intensity from start to finish , EG Amen Corner , bear trap , Carnoustie brutal last four holes , the Road hole , on and on, the shot gun start can never be exciting because the course is Never played as designed . Its no surprise to see Greg Norman pushing the current format as Four rounds with an intense finish was not a thing he could handle .
