I am thoroughly impressed by the U-Haul build quality. How they didn't shred the top of the box while it lifted the truck multiple times, then dragged it over the pipes and it still wasn't getting destroyed. They really do try and make them idiot proof. The fact that once somebody who isn't panicking backs the truck out of the garage it can probably go back into service with minor repairs..

When they dropped it off, they threw the keys on the counter and said "there ya go, good as new, we even washed it for ya" as they walked out.

I had a Chevy express van and I KNEW it would fit in the parking garage I had to work at several times a month but STILL inched along whenever I had to go under the sprinkler heads. People behind me honked but my thinking was going over the speed bumps would raise me and if I was going too fast I might get more air and height and possibly clip one. I believe I had five inches of clearance. But going down, speed would obviously pick up and I didn’t want to chance a bounce. If I wasn’t sure elsewhere, I’d pull over and double check the heights if it wasn’t clearly marked. I ALWAYS knew my own clearance. And that’s on a VAN. And of course my trailer if it was taller when loaded. If u gonna drive, be prepared.

This almost happened to me moving into my new apartment luckily I was able to determine my truck was too tall for my parking garage I feel as if the leasing staff should warn the new tenants to not drive u-hauls into the garage as I was not warned.

I remember the fire sprinkler guys on my first high-rise as a project engineer telling me that the water sits in the pipes for years so you never want to accidently set them off.... I fully understand why now.

All rental trucks big and small come with height postings on the mirrors, dash, and on the corner of the truck and they’re there to prevent this. It’s sad but rental companies may have to start putting sensors on the top of trucks because I see this time after time
