There are lots of different career opportunities in the U.S. Air Force. Meet SrA Anthony Hernandez, an air traffic control specialist with the 1st Special Operations Support Squadron, as he showcases what a day in the control tower looks like at Hurlburt Field, Florida.
Air traffic control works 365 days a year to ensure aircraft and personnel take off and arrive safely, enabling 1st Special Operations Wing aircrews to remain ready for global operations any time, any place. www.airforce.com/

Sorry, ATC requires a certain personality type with a very specific set of skills. Sure working a tower in a podunk airport somewhere may be doable by anyone. Go work somewhere busy and say that again. ...Retired ATC 35 years experience

7-13-24. What's hard to believe is that flight strips are still being used in the 2021 Air Force. The ob appearence is deceptive. To get this AFSC prior to BMT you have to sign to a six year contract. Consider the Keesler tech school washout rate is about 50% and then more drops via the OTJ phase. The reward is worth it once you qualify. Upon separation there is a high paying FAA career waiting for you.

“Anyone who wants to do air traffic can do air traffic”.... well, I’m glad your SUPE’s lie comforted you, but this is not even close to being true. Some people just aren’t cut out for this career no matter how bad they want it.

@@reilens8681 I’m not saying anything about YOU. I’m just saying that simply “wanting to do it” isn’t usually enough. Air traffic control generally requires a certain temperament and disposition. For instance, a timid indecisive person who deeply thinks about each decision before taking action will most likely not succeed in this field no matter how bad they want it. It’s not a certainty either way that specific personalities or characteristics will succeed or fail, but there are absolutely markers for success where one is much more likely to do well given certain traits. So to say “anybody who wants to do can do it” is just simply not true. For instance, in the civilian realm via the FAA, the vast majority of the people who wash out either at the academy or in OJTI at the facility “want to do it.” If what this guy said is true, the only people that would wash from the training programs would be those people who are in training that don’t really want to do it.

@@USAirForceRecruiting Really anything in aviation is what interests me most so I can be flexible. My first choice was to be a pilot or flight instructor but ATC looked better long-term. I'd also be interested in aviation maintenance or refueling. Being a load master also caught my attention. There's so much I don't know still and I'm very eager to learn more about the Air Force. I just graduated high school and work as an electrician in Maryland but I know it's not something I want to do forever. Becoming an air traffic controller isn't guaranteed of course if I join but it'd still be nice if I got to that point . By any chance would you know if I'd be able to go in as an E3 with an associates degree?

Your ASVAB test, physical exam, citizenship and moral standards determine your job/career qualifications. Ordinarily you will be required to list a specific number of job choices, and at least one Area choice (Mechanical, Administrative, General, Electronics). You will receive one of the choices you listed that also match the Air Force hiring needs. Those members who receive an aptitude area vs a specific job will go through the job process at basic training. about 75% or our jobs are booked there so it does have some advantages. However, it still does not guarantee one specific job you are wanting to enter under. However, it may open more opportunity as some jobs such as medical jobs tend to be booked there. You may discuss this further with your recruiter. Pam Air Force and Space Force Recruiting Service

@MurdaRez
@MurdaRez 5 ай бұрын
it’s can get very stressful, high wash back and wash out rate. there is also a 2 hour mandatory study time in tech school. If you’re in the books a lot you’ll be perfectly fine. just remember to not get complacent because tech school is a lot different from operational and you’re gonna be in the books a lot even after you get rated because things change in the books consistently. I’m still currently working for my 5lvl operationally in the rapcon and i’ve had 2 of my friends washout to another career and the other booted from the airforce because they got lazy and complacent, so even when you struggle in training just show initiative and dedication and you’ll be just fine

Is it worth it to go to a four-year school to become an Air Traffic Controller, instead of attending an eighteen-month program to get certified?
@USAirForceRecruiting
@USAirForceRecruiting 3 жыл бұрын
Either way does not guarantee that job in the Air Force. Your Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test scores, physical exam, citizenship and moral standards determine your job/career qualifications. Until you have taken BOTH your ASVAB test and completed your physical exam. The Air Force does not know what jobs/careers you would qualify for. For example: you could have a perfect Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) score and find out during your physical exam at Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) and you find out that you are red & green deficient during your eye exam or some other medical issue. So you do not qualify for any EOD, Special Warfare, flying careers, SERE, electrical or mechanical jobs, Security Forces, Fire Protection, etc. … OR … you could be in perfect physical shape & have no medical issues, but you have low ASVAB scores. So you do not qualify for certain jobs that require higher ASVAB scores. You may view our career fields the Air Force has to offer. Each page will provide a career description, if it is an Enlisted, Officer or Health Professions and career requirements: www.airforce.com/careers/browse-careers Job Selection Process: When processing through the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), you will provide the Air Force Job Counselor with at least 5 jobs or more and an aptitude area (General, Mechanical, Electronics, or Administrative) that you qualified for, and are willing to train and serve in. You will receive one of the jobs, or an aptitude area that meets the needs of the United States Air Force that YOU selected. Remember, this is an opportunity for you to go through the job selection process, and Enlist into the United States Air Force, not shop for a specific job. You CANNOT wait for a specific job. Whether it is your #1 job choice or your #8 job choice you must accept the career. As long as you are fully qualified for a specific career, and if there is an opening in that career field, then you will get that career guaranteed to you in your contract. Remember you will receive one of the careers/aptitude area that you qualified for and that YOU requested. Ray U.S. Air Force and Space Force Recruiting
