people, going to airborne school will a majority of the time depend on your unit, and or if you're fortunate enough to get it in your contract. And don't expect to go far if your PT score is not up to par

Actually while a recruiter will push you towards a particular career field, if you insist on Jump School in your contract and refuse to sign until it is in your contract with a school date, you should be able to get it if otherwise qualified. I refused to sign three times over a period of three weeks because they could not find me a Jump School slot. That was the only thing holding me back. ASVAB/Physical/No record. I'm at about 254 jumps.

You have to request it from your recruiter that you want to serve in an Airborne Unit, e.g., 82nd Airborne Division, 75th Ranger Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Special Forces, etc., and get it in writing in your contract before you ever enlist. It requires extra paperwork for the recruiter to get you a guaranteed slot, so sometimes they may try to put you off or dissuade you by saying, "Don't worry about it. Just concentrate on passing basic training/AIT or OSUT, and then you can ask your drill sergeant for an airborne slot on a first come, first serve basis." Don't believe them. There are NEVER any extra slots available, and even if there was one, you are NOT going to get it as a first-time enlistee. As a first-time enlistee, you either get an "Airborne Option" contract before you enlist from your recruiter issued to you at MEPS with guaranteed orders to airborne school after completion of OSUT or AIT, or you'll never get airborne. Why is it this way? Because the demand for airborne slots service wide -- especially the ones that are allocated months in advance to West Point & ROTC cadets particularly in the summertime, and other branches of service and MOS's who have priority for airborne slots year-round, specifically those who enlist with Ranger Contracts Option 40, those with Special Forces Contracts, USAF PJ's etc., all have priority for the limited number of airborne slots before first-time enlistees.

@Cejo871
@Cejo871 7 жыл бұрын
+Josh Reichenbach I know it isn't. I've spoken with several EOD techs before and have gotten insight from them of how to be successful in the school. I have been physically preparing for it physically since 16 and my scores are very good according to local NSW scouts. I know the challenges that lay ahead and I am looking forward to them. What do you know of Navy EOD/EOD on its own?

Former Army EOD here, was in a Navy class for a bit going through EOD school. Great bunch of guys and gals. From what they have told me is that Navy EOD is basically SF and can be attached to seal teams. Not 100% on the facts, but I have trained with them and have done PT with them, crazy group of people.
@Cejo871
@Cejo871 7 жыл бұрын
+Josh Reichenbach Oh yeah, they're NSW. That's what interests me about them. As soon as I heard about Navy EOD from an Army buddy of mine I was instantly intrigued and knew exactly what I wanted to do in the military. I found a Navy EOD workout program and started it and have never looked back. It set the foundation for who I am today because I know I don't want anything to jeopardize my chances at Navy EOD/Spec. War. I have spoken to several Marine EOD techs as well as AF, but you may be the first Army EOD tech I've had contact with. When did you serve?

All Navy EOD Techs. must be jump qualified (and dive qualified). Some Army EOD Techs. are jump qualified. Marine & Air Force EOD Techs. are not jump qualified (though, there may be a few individuals that are).

USSOCOM have the EOD unit?
@SV-kr9fu
@SV-kr9fu 3 жыл бұрын
No. Before 2008-09, SOCOM units would use Navy EOD Techs. to be attached to them. Then later, some Army EOD Techs. get sent to get jump qualification and weapons & small tactic, so they can be attached to SF & Rangers.

Had army eod assigned to my team in A-stan, '16. Failed controled-det, fell-out on an infil and a ND to boot. Essentially, conventional guys thrown into a SOF operating environment. They were hot garbage.

@@user-sx1jb8gc6s : Sorry that you had a bad experience with your tech. During my time in the Navy (mid-2000's), the techs. that will be attached to SOF units (normally, must be, at least, a very experienced Basic EOD or Senior EOD) must do pre-deployment training, to get acclimated, with the unit before they get deployed. I do not know how the Army does things.

I'm assuming EOD's get paid more than infantry but I would rather shoot people in the face than defuse bombs. Not that I wouldn't want to take a shot at EOD but you have to prioritize.

EOD gets demo and hazard pay while in garrison. Also, most small EOD units know how group text works and don’t have to do super early morning or late after work formations or uniform inspections. Unneeded stress being lowered is as good as money to me.

I’m a former infantry paratrooper. Had a lot of fun in the airborne infantry but also suffered a lot generally due to unneeded nonsense from higher leadership. MOS that work in smaller teams generally have a better quality of life because there’s an understanding and respect amongst the group. As a new 11B or 11C private you’re going to get fucked with and hazed nonstop for at least the first six months. It builds character but the fuckery doesn’t stop there. Back to back ranges, standing room inspections, health and welfare checks, going to the field constantly, going and doing training with NATO allied forces constantly. All of this is fun for maybe the first two years, if you have a family back home this burns you out really fast. Unless of course you eat this shit up and absolutely love it, in which case I’d recommend trying out for the Green Berets.
