The Biden administration argues China subsidizes its products so aggressively and produces them at such scale it undermines other countries' economic output, which should be a global concern. Last week, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen asked her European counterparts for help. Mark Wu, professor of law at Harvard University, joins CBS News to discuss whether a multi-national approach could produce real results.

Investing in developing industries is different than continually subsidizing existing industries to the point of massive overcapacity with the intent to harm trading partners. Judging by the tone of your disingenuous comment, I'm sure you know that though. You should read the rules of being in the WTO....you know, the organization that we got you into?

Is this not racist? If the US could produce products as cheaply and equal or better quality, why would it not? And when you see they are approaching Europe for help to combat Chinese innovation and not Japan, Brazil, Kenya or Nigeria in the endeavor, does that not tap into a historical chord or Western and European cultural protectionism? Japan is an ally and an innovative nation. Their help would have the same effect as any European nation against China. But are the Japanese being physically classified in with China, similar to how Japanese Americans were physically classified with Japan during WII but German and Italian Americans were never physically classified with Axis powers of Germany and Italy? The fact is, US brand products are being made in China because company leaders in the US and other Western nations want higher profits so they are selling work to the Chinese. It's westerner"s undermining westerner"s the same as the crown heads of Europe used to undermine their own citizens and the location is being blamed instead of the people selling their jobs to a particular location.

The West remained silent as China ran amok with hacking Western technology, bragging about displacing the West, talking up it's military might and border disputes with all neighbours. The West simply pulled the plug on the ingrate with punitive tariffs and semi conducttor ban. This is a political game. The US does this way so that they can put sanctions against China and other nations . :)) China and Russia , and other nations should be greatly working together in terms of trading.

Think Europe is as easy to fool as Japan and Korea? Asking Japan and Korea not selling chips to China while Intel and Nvidia are continuing selling. Check out what's the top downloads in US, what products are selling in Walmart and Amazon? 😂😂

😂😂😂 Seriously China don't give a damn as export to US is inconsequential and the dropping value of US dollars is a big concern. Exports to the rest of the world by Chinq represents almost 60% today and rising fast. China is prepared to forego both US and EU and guess what, when that happens these two importing nations will be hit by high inflation. 🤔😀😂

China has the best economic fundamentals on a global level. No one can "block" or try to slow down the Chinese economy. Not even Xi Jinping himself could do it. One cannot complain about competition just because it is not favorable to the West. They are simply more forward-thinking and better at achieving economic development goals. Furthermore, they know very well that no other nation is able to reach their production levels. They have almost everything on their side: resources, know-how, technical and economic skills. So in the coming decades they will lead the game and certainly not the West. Maybe some elites won't like it, but what do you want to do? This is how every economic organism works. It is born, develops, goes through a period of decline and finally dies. The collective West is in the third phase and only those who do not want to see or live on another planet believe they can keep their power unchanged. Good luck to all

😂😂😂 It is every man for himself as aoon as they discover the cost to support US stance qhich is basically motivated by self interest. Turkey haa just decided to join BRICS and soon many EU nations will follow. Example Ukraine is a war supported by a few main members but not the rest. U x hard stance towards China has driven a wedge between them. EU unity is alas a myth.

lmao, go check out lowes/ home depot, how many items are made in USA? why items that made in china are not as "cheap" as what they descried ?

I buy stuff made in China because it is much cheaper than made in USA. This has been how it is for decades. Face it America. Not until your salary is lowered by 50% plus, then stuff can be cheap in a competitive price. Stupid CA pays mcd staff $20 minimum. This is why the cost of mcd burger is like $10 a piece. Increase wage doesn’t make people richer… lower wage does.

It seems everyone is still relying too heavily on the charts now. Imho, when the ETF's stepped into Crypto it changed the game. The Bitcoin Baby has been born and will grow up fast. The Crypto Market now has a rubber stamp of approval. Wall Street is in the game now and It will become the store of value we have been talking about. The rules are already changing. We would have normally had a corrective retrace by now, yet Bitcoin has been steadily rising. The name of the game is getting out with profit, but when exactly to get out this Super Cycle is going to be a tricky one. It's not about guessing the market's next move; it's about playing it smart and steady...managed to grow a nest egg of around 3.4Bitcoin to a decent 18Bitcoin in the space of a few months... I'm especially grateful to Whitney Eston, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.

There are too many Chinese trolls here. Like it or not, the only fair solution is to set tariffs that correspond exactly to the sum of all the subsidies for each product. It would be a lot and fair.
