Taiwan Talks

Күн бұрын

The top U.S. admiral in the Pacific, Samuel Paparo, told the Washington Post that if Beijing invades Taiwan, the United States will unleash an unmanned “hellscape” in the Taiwan Strait with an army of drones. He says the plan is designed to distract China and buy the U.S. time to respond. U.S. President Joe Biden also reiterated commitments to Taiwan's defense in an interview with Time magazine. It's the 5th time that he has said the U.S. would help to defend Taiwan in the event that China attacks. What is the U.S.’ role in Taiwan's defense?

For those in Taiwan banking on the U S A, ask why did they run away from Afghanistan Vietnam Cambodia Laos, do you think they don't die from wars, they do that's why they keep running from wars.

The difference is that Taiwan is essential to the American economy. The countries you mentioned had no impact on American prosperity. The USA will always fight for money.

@@elefnishikot In Reality , No Taiwan Is Not essential to the 🇺🇸 economy in the Long Game. Do People really believe the 🇺🇸would allow someone(ROC) that type of strategic leverage over them… YES it’s a fact the ROC 🇹🇼 is the world’s leader in chip manufacturing by a large margin…but They(TSMC) Do Not design the chips they manufacture. Like SAMSUNG or INTEL. Not mention SAMSUNG is expanding, building more Fabs as well as INTEL. The point being the 🇺🇸 has other options just like when the EU🇪🇺 cut ties on RUSSIAN 🇷🇺 Gas. The 🇺🇸 might take a hit but it would only be very short term. Those Wars(countries) Did have an impact on the 🇺🇸 in Blood , Treasure and Defeat. That took years to recover from and still are. The US didn’t run away from Afghanistan. They signed the Doha agreement. The US signed the 1973 Paris Peace accords with North Vietnam. I believe North Vietnam betrayed that agreement with South Vietnam and then in turn was attacked by China.

@@summer031977 PRC fought US in Korea in 1950s. It fought India in 1962. It fought Soviet at border in 1969. It fought Vietnam army at its peak in 1979. After PRC fought with all the most powerful neighbors + USA, no one dare to test PRC again. Another interesting fact is that PRC did not fight any war with its other weaker land neighbors and settled the border peacefully with all of them.

Taiwan and Penghu are leftover issues from World War II. See Treaty of San Francisco. At the time, the U.S. government helped the Chinese Nationalist Party (Republic of China), which had been defeated in the Chinese Civil War, escape to Taiwan, which was then a Japanese colony. Look at Formosa betrayed. Formosa is the original name of Taiwan. After the Chinese Kuomintang came to Taiwan, it still maintained dictatorial rule, but moved towards democracy under pressure from the United States, and the Taiwanese entered the Republic of China to fight for their rights. The Chinese who lost their privileges in Taiwan united with the People's Republic of China to steal Taiwan and Penghu.

TAIWAN IS NOT CHINA. Japan surrendered Taiwan and other territories to the US led Allied Forces in 1945. ROC accepted the surrender on behalf of the US. Taiwan is under US custody until its status is finalised. PRC/mainland China was never in the picture and has no claim over it. So, the best people to decide Taiwan's future are the Taiwanese.
@qingzhou9983

Silly discussion. PLA always plans US military involvement if it unifies Taiwan with force. And if US really increases its capability, like double its military budget to build a much stringer Navy and Air-Force, PRC will match it easily with its own arm-building (PRC currently only spend 1.5% of its GDP on army vs US's 3.7%). The only questions about Taiwan is: whether it becomes Macau, Hong Kong, Ukraine or South Vietnam.

It is not only about budget, but about law and democratic principles. It would be about China vs US, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Indonesia, India, EU, Canada, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and most the rest of the world. If China is good in mathematics, it knows too how to evaluate both sides of the equation equation.

@@tubefm01 I am afraid you are looking at the Wrong Math. First You need to study why US lost Vietnam War and why PLA drove back US Army in Korean War. Second, all the world navies, except US, add together is No Match to PRC around Taiwan Straight. Even US Navy is no Match to China's Navy + land-based missiles and air-force near Taiwan.
