The Engine Control Module (ECM) and Transmission Shift Control Module (TCM) collaborate through the Controller Area Network, (CAN), to coordinate engine and transmission operations in vehicles.
The ECM regulates engine functions while the TCM manages transmission.
For this transmission to be effective, the TCM rely on input from sensors like engine speed sensors, and shaft speed sensors to make real-time adjustments.
After it has gotten its data ready, The TCM communicates with the gear shift control module, GSCM, providing it with instructions on which gear to engage and when to initiate the shift.
The GSCM then activates solenoids or hydraulic actuators within the transmission to accomplish the gear change.
Additionally, the GSCM may receive feedback signals from sensors within the transmission to ensure that the gear engagement is smooth and precise.
When there is failure or loss in this communication with the GSCM the ECM throws the U0103 error code when the car is scanned.
