I listened and loved this song for 25 years before I found out it's a Gospel Song. I thought it was about love and a man looking for love. I didn't pay attention to the lyrics. Review the live performance of U2’s song “Bad”-the historic Live Aid concert performance of it. It’s on KZfaq. One of the most iconic & innovative live performances by any rock band of the past 50 years. U2 were up-and-comers at the time. Not yet global superstars. This live performance was viewed by over 1 billion people and changed everything. Because of what happened with Bono 2/3 of the way through the song (100% unplanned), they ended the song creatively on the fly-with, like, a prototype of what decades later would become known as a mashup. And it worked! A masterful performance of an incredible song.

Up and comers? Are you insane? Unforgettable Fire was the 3 biggest selling lp, globally, in 1984, 5th in the US, and thats competing against Prince, Madonna and Jackson. They swept the grammys before live aid, and were on every magazine cover from rolling stone to Time. U2 was the band, globally, by 1985 and live aid. By 1983 and the release of War, they were a huge band, note they sold out that tour, world wide. Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Years day were huge songs for them, and videos.

I agree Joshua Tree is a great album, I think U2's best, with Achtune Baby being their second best (IMHO), but I disagree on some of your other choices not that they aren't all great bands just that I like some of their other albums better. For instance, for the Who I like Who's Next and Quadrophenia better than Tommy (though I still like Tommy a lot and think it's also a great album) or Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon (which for years was my favorite) but now I like Animals better. Queens self titled 1st album is still my favorite by them, even though they have a plethora of other great albums. I guess everybody has unique tastes.

I’m taking music in college right now and I’m working on an assignment that asks you to basically pick your favourite song of all time , and why it means so much to you, so naturally I picked this song. Although this whole album is legendary , I think this song is just mind blowing. I couldn’t exactly find the words to describe how I felt about this song, but everything you said about it is spot on: Bono’s voice is beautiful and haunting and amazing , you just get lost in this song , and it’s a journey. Watching your reacting rlly helped me find the words for my project , thanks man and take care:))

I saw them in '83 at the tender age of 15 during their "War" tour. It was an unbelievable show and might be the first concert I went to. That could be the Police and UB40 though as those two time frames are awfully close together in my memory. I've been to a lot of shows in my time and seen some great concerts but that first U2 show ranks at the very top. There was so much raw energy and emotion coming off the stage and the crowd was so completely connected to each other. It was amazing, almost a religious experience and that is coming from an atheist.

U2 was one of the rare 80's bands who were an actual core Rock band. They were a typical traditional band with lead singer, guitarist, bass, drummer. They kept it simple but at the same time very complex music structures. At the time 'New Wave' was the dominant rock music and traditional Classic Rock was slowly dying, U2 was played on all the New Wave stations; they didn't even have any keyboards but all the other new wavers relied heavily on them. - that's how great they were!

U2 - One of THE BEST bands which began in the 1980's - still creating hit songs - Bono, amazing singer, who believes what he sings. Listen to this song, when it was taken to a CHURCH CHOIR - giving even more meaning to "Carry the cross of my shame" - This band is a legend, like The Bee Gees, McCartney & Lennon...

The townspeople gave him the nickname 'Bono' which means Angelic Voice or Voice of an Angel in Irish Gaelic. As you can tell, he clearly lived up to his nickname! 👼💯💗 I saw them several times over the years. One of my favorites was them and Public Enemy! Talk about a diverse crowd and a powerful concert in 1992 during Rock the Vote! 💯

Pride (In The Name Of Love) off the Rattle & Hum album, with a choir, makes me cry every time. The live version, paying a visual homage to MLK....I cry now thinking about it. SO incredibly profound & moving. This is a band you need to familiarize yourself with.

I'm old enough to remember, back when this came out, it took over the airwaves. It was everywhere, for months and months. Every single seemed to go straight to number one. It was such a breath of fresh air, and so soulful and creative. Remember this was the peak of crappy boy bands, and hair metal..... To have something like this come along, and shove all that aside, and dominate not just the pop stations, but the college rock stations as well. Love em, or not, U2 seriously changed the musical landscape when Joshua Tree released.
