Is Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London Worth The Hype? 3 Michelin Stars!

Gordon Ramsay may be one of the most famous chefs on the planet, thanks to his plethora of reality TV shows like Kitchen Nightmares, Hell's Kitchen, MasterChef, and the F Word, but it's easy to forget that he is objectively a very accomplished chef from a Michelin standpoint. He has amassed 17 Michelin stars throughout his career, but his fame all started when he opened Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London. Also known as Restaurant Gordon Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road, the restaurant was Ramsay's first solo restaurant and within a few short years it received three Michelin stars.
While many of Gordon's other restaurants, particularly in the US, are more so casual spots and even tourist destinations, such as Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill, Gordon Ramsay Steak, and Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips, his flagship Restaurant Gordon Ramsay has held three Michelin stars for more than 20 years, which is an absolutely surreal accomplishment. The question though is if it deserves its reputation as such an excellent restaurant, or if it's just coasting off its name and its celebrity chef's name at this point. We'll find out together!
This is the highlight of the London series so hopefully you enjoy it!

I am super pleased and grateful that you shelled out the big $$$ to do a full tasting menu and get a complete experience from Ramsay's flagship (as it is the only way to realistically assess a 2 or 3 Michelin star restaurant.) And you did a wonderful job conveying how each item tasted without the cliches that fine dining foodie influencers can fall back on. Although this isn't the main focus of the channel, once I wanted to note this was greatly appreciated. Hope you get a lot of views for this!

The starters (canapes, beef tartare etc) and some of the main dishes looked AMAZING (the asparagus and ratatouille looked particularly good)! I would have expected his restaurant to be all hype, marketing and no actual substance. I don't eat red meat but the beef dishes still looked appetizing to me. I would have expected there to be more than "one" lobster ravioli but overall a very impressive meal! Thanks for taking us along.

The thing about these sorts of "high end" restaurants - you go for the experience more than the food itself really. While normally, the food is incredibly good in places like this, it's all about the experience of being there, being told everything in the dish, how it's made sometimes, specific cutlery or dishes for each course, etc. And while depending on the menu, you can get 8, 10, 12, even more courses and get full pretty easily even with the small portions most of the time. For the "average joe" spending $350 on a tasting menu such as this, with very small portions and a very narrow choice of food each course has, it's usually seen as just for "rich people" or people who want to show off (flex I guess the kids say these days lol). All that being said, I've had the pleasure of eating at restaurants such as this before and I hate the saying "don't knock it till you try it" but in this regard - I totally agree. I've had culinary training (at the Culinary Institute of America) and know what goes into a fine dining experience and it is NOT easy work and it's certainly not for the faint of heart. These chefs and cooks and servers and everyone work their asses off to make the "experience" something memorable. And that's why I always recommend people, if they can, do something like this at least once in their life.

I actually look forward to vegetable dishes in restaurants the most, because vegetables are so good and underrated if done well. But choosing Ratatouille over Gordon Ramsay's famous signature Lobster Ravioli would have been so incredibly unlikely for me, but UA Eats is so convincing that I might share half a ravioli and half a ratatouille with my lunch mate if I ever get the chance to be there. Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is my destination goal to try, if I ever travel to UK.

Stand in Budapest is right up there too. Next time have take 4 and have their Sommelier, James Shaw, pair wine with each course. It elevates the meal to a stratospheric level. Finally, I’m sorry you missed the best restaurant manager in the entire world, Jean-Claude Breton, who brings the meal to another level when he accompanies and explains each course! Went to his restaurant when it was at London hotel in nyc and loved it . I visited London when I was in the marines in 81 on a navy ship and it was not a restaurant town back then. British food isn't popular my grandmother is British and joke about it but I loved her yorkshire pudding Sunday roast when I visited her. What a difference now . Has times changed

21:55 Interesting. There's a line of seasoning on the slice of steak, but you'd cut the meat in a way that would leave all the seasoning off (to the next bite). Not a critique on you. Just an observation and something for the chef(s) to learn from

You'd be surprised how much meals like this will fill you up. I know the typical American viewpoint is "small portions mean not enough food" but when it comes to restaurants like this, they're doing all of that for a reason. I've had a number of similar meals at higher end restaurants and have never left hungry

it's about experience rather than filling your gut with food. Also, with so many dishes in the set, you really don't need a substantial main course. All in all, that set it enough to satisfy a hungry adult. And high end cuisine is not about getting stuffed and overeating.
