General Aviation is a great community and very helpful with each other. My buddy John called and asked for a pickup from Rockford Airport (RFD) and it was an easy decision to put the chainsaw down and go pick him up. He's done the same for me several times and it's always nice to be able to return the favor. In flight we deviated a bit to not fly through/breathe the harmful chemicals. Evidentially a large grease factory blew up north of Rockford. We used the short flight to let John get some experience on my Avidyne IFD's as he was having one installed at the shop.
Sorry for the slight audio issues. I will get that resolved.

Bryan, I recently started primary flight training, and I stunned my instructor by doing this on my first take-off in a C-172. It was "airspeed alive, 45, 50, 55, rotate". Thanks to Kevin for the great example. Now I have to figure out how much right rudder to give it.

Well looks like to me that a bumpy ride doesn't matter as long as you have got all the instrumental things you need you'll get there. Once you learn something it's pretty easy to teach someone else. I love it. I am not certified but I want to tell you this is excellent. I have flown many times I do not have my license but I have seen what you're doing and teaching this Feller many times.. Keep up the good work you do excellent work you're an excellent teacher. Have a great day stay safe and keep your powder dry!

We built the minor league baseball stadium in Beloit and watched the Chemtool fire from there. Could see flames anywhere from 200-400 feet above the ground.

Yep, that fire sent smoke all the way down over the AAR ramp while we were trying to launch an A-319 out. I was surprised we got it out in that. Wish I’d have seen you on takeoff. Such a great looking aircraft.

I live S.W. of rockford. I recognized some of the scenery you flew over. I was on duty that day at RFD. I saw the initial plume of smoke on my way to work that morning, I thought oh boy this is going to be a big mess. Yes Lithium smoke is bad to inhale. Lithium fires react very badly when water is applied to them which hampered the firefighting efforts.

Not just helping out a friend... pilots just need any excuse to go fly. I was painting my house and dropped what I was doing to go fly the local funeral homes Cessna U-206. Made a few shekkels, taking someone in a casket for their last plane ride to another state. Still got the house painted the next day.

A friend has a problem, and you have a solution. That is what being a friend is all about. I do it all the time. A friend has something big/bulky that needs to be moved, I am not doing anything, so I take my minivan and go help em out. We are all in this life together, no sense NOT to help. My feelings anyway...great job 1BC!

We were working one of the chemical fires🔥. We only see it from a few hundred feet from the UAV's though. Beautiful day for a flight!

Thank you for a cool video. I wish I could have one of you aviation folks help me transport a new puppy from South Bend to Tampa but she is an 8 to 10 week old Boxer and the squishy face breeds should not fly unless the cabin is pressurized. Then Southwest stopped allowing pets in the cabin out of a carried. So I fly up tomorrow morning rent a car pick her up and drive back to Tampa. I so agree with you that your aviation community is a true brotherhood/fellowship of some of the most awesome folks. Thanks again for sharing aviation with us.

I left the area about 11 A.M. driving to Springfield that day. By the time I got to the south of LaSalle/Peru the smoke from that fire had made it that far south. Very long smoke trail.

Hi Kev. Non-pilot question for ya. How does the yawl dampener affect your ability to crab (if at all)? Without really knowing what it does, it seems by its name that it is meant to keep you from doing just that.

Yaw is simply flying in one direction but pointing in another! Some aircraft have slight instability in the yaw plane and naturally fly sometimes to the left and sometimes to the right of the heading, probably 2 - 5 degrees either way. When this becomes regular some passengers are bothered by it so the yaw damper calculates the correction needed to be applied to the controls and applies it automatically for a nice smooth ride. Applying the rudder to create sideslip or "crab angle" over-rides everything. Watch at climbout, sometimes the camera view demonstrates left and right yaw and as the yow damper goes on, the yaw sway goes away.

Kevin, You both make a good team. That Lithium fire looked like a very bad situation, I am really glad you avoided it. Would you have been able to use oxygen if you were forced to get closer?
