eVTOLs currently look like a cross between a helicopter, a light airplane and a drone (depending on the model). But from an aviation perspective the people carrying versions perform the same role as a helicopter, just being powered by electricity and producing a lot less noise. Whether this green, quiet image is enough for them to expand the niche market currently held by helicopters all comes down to price...

Hate to burst your bubble Uber, but an electric rotorcraft topping out at 180 MPH (a.k.a 156 Knots) is not that fast in the aviation. A helicopter with ICE can top out at 267 MPH (232 knots) while maintaining a stable and level flight. Another factor is weight and balance. That thing can easily reach the maximum weight if you got all 4 passengers that are overweight. Oh yeah don't forget the fuel, batteries, luggage, seats, radio, instruments, etc etc. with the expenses to maintain the electric rotorcraft is a lot more than it would be with a helicopter. Also if you experience an electric power failure, you better hope those propellers have autorotating capabilities that allows the pilots to control it.

Aren't there few variables though? First of all, I can't even imagine the amount of traffic once these actually start flying around. Some of small airports' ATC become absolutely shitshow when it's busy and all those efforts are to avoid any mid-air collision. How will they operate those vehicles in bad weathers. I understand they will implement some type of autopilot in it; however, some of the best pilots were killed due to icing and many other weather phenomena. Will it be economical enough if it's only flown on the good days?
