Fun Fact: In the original concept, the vikings had armor and weapons that were historically accurate and realistic. The raider looked a lot like the war lord, the berserker wore actual armor, and the viking soldiers all wielded axes and shields just like real vikings. But for some reason, Ubisoft decided to change the concept in favor of stereotypical vikings from horned helmets to leather armor or no armor at all.

Ubisoft’s ‘historical accurate’ viking fashion has hit a low point

I'll never understand why WarLord and Raider have a random patch of fur over their left shoulder. Is that the only part of them that gets cold? Or did they run out of wolf pelts because raider keeps making skirts out of them?

The current problem Ubisoft is facing is the fact that the current sets for the vikings are all ugly imo, and they clearly cannot make any new sets, They can only make variations. since those variations are based on those sets we currently have, it will be EXTREMLY hard to make them look any good. Reason why Gryphon got a pretty decent Viking armor was because it was a whole new set, and not a variation. They can only save this by making new sets wich I highly doubt (since they didn't even finish new sets for old dlc characters) or make really good skins (wich they failed with the Raider one)

I’ve been saying this since jorm came out, add in a character based off the VARANGIAN GUARD. They were literal Viking/Kievan Rus warriors who went south to serve the byzantines. They had long axes, and swords, and shields, and spears. If the Egyptian hero can have a glaive/dual axe hybrid why can’t a Viking hero have the ability to switch from long axe to sword and shield.

Well here's hoping they can focus more on armour during the seasons without a new hero

You say for honor isn’t stuck into historical accuracy but honestly I’d love to see Ubisoft take that. Imagine if the next viking hero is an axe and shield hero with a helmet and a shirt of chainmail, no skulls, some bits of fur here and there, but for the most part just chainmail with leather bracers and the like. Id not complain.

Honestly, with how many animations get reused for the new heroes lately, I’m surprised that they still have a budget to be honest. In my eyes the game doesn’t need new heroes, just better current content and updating their dated old characters so they stop being niche at best. All I want from the game anymore is this: Make each hero be able to gender swap, give good armour to the Vikings, give an option to remove rust and battle damage from equipment, give pirate a Caribbean set instead of whatever we have, give armour variations to all heroes eventually, give Raider a shirt, stop putting skulls, bones, and spikes on everything you possibly can, more unique armour sets, enough goofy executions and emotes, stop making universal executions there’s so many, give blood splatter options for the edgy players, give battle damage options(burns, dents, broken armour, scars, etc), give BP something that isn’t so edgy it hurts (an actual knight helmet for starters, stop with the mascara, and helmet less that doesn’t look terrible), and please get a higher budget (I know UBI is basically trying to kill the game because the idea of a game lasting longer than a year is foreign to them, but I can dream). All these asks can take multiple seasons I don’t care just add them pls

Never realized the Vikings have gotten nothing till you mentioned it. Personally they should take a break on making weapons for a season to make new armor sets.

I've been a Warlord main since open beta and am still waiting for a realistic Warlord armor set; a Gjermundbu with a mail coif that covers the mouth and nose, a hauberk or haubergeon, and some striped hose - none of this padded boiled leather bullshit, it's driving me nuts. Maybe something like they did with Conq's new sets where there's pouches and gear along his belt, or a kind of cloak pinned to his back and shoulders like a cape (it's a bit frosty in the far north). Warlord is dead to Ubisoft so I'm not in denial anymore.

I feel like they could lean into the fact that they're you know... Vikings, and have it where they like have obviously stolen armor from the other factions, like whole pieces, I feel like with a little mixing and matching it could be really cool, and not just reskins of the same like 5 outfits

You know, one of the reasons we don't get new armour variations might be because they're too afraid of making something that could be used for a new hero instead later on.

A Varangian skin for raider, clad in heavy lamellar and chainmail, would’ve been really cool. The idea of a Viking warlord working for the knights as a mercenary, allowing him access to their forges and armor, would’ve been awesome and also a great call to Harald Hardrada. Instead we got shirtless hobo v2.

Yeah the Vikings (and all factions in my opinion) really got shafted in terms of cosmetics. Let me tell you the way I see it. If you were to have the Vikings wear historical armor, it would look better than their current options, trust me there’s no argument here about that. But, the game takes place around a thousand years in the future following the events of the cataclysm. The Viking cosmetics don’t need to be supplemented to make them look like Hollywood interpretations of Vikings (which Hollywood view as cavemen) like what is seen in game. Within the time between the cataclysm and the current events in game, there would be so much technological advancement and adaption in warfare that you could have nice, practical and realistic fantasy designs for the Viking faction other than maille or defaulting to the weird cannibalistic caveman misinterpretations of Scandinavian culture. With the sheer amount of time that has gone by in universe, the Viking faction would likely look more like Renaissance / late medieval Slavic peoples in terms of their cosmetics. There’s just so much inspiration that can be taken other than random bits of leather to cater to the Hollywood view of Vikings, or having them all wear hauberks.

I agree with this because I’ve been playing jorm lately and I got jorm rep 5 and all of his armor does not look good at all to me. Like I know jorm is supposed to look messy but all of the armors look the same and the only thing different is the helmets but they just look bad to me

I find it funny that Berserker who in a historicall context literally ran into battle butfuck naked is always fully clothed and has chainmail on him but raiders only piece of chest clothing is an apron or a chainmail reskin of his aktual skin

Second of all, the fact that viking commander having better fashion than any viking hero AND has some of highlander’s moves like his zone, is a proof that they can make a commander skin for highlander or any hero in the game without any effort. Just swap that to that, how is that difficult?? And before any of you say highlander is Scottish, well the game is fantasy based. Why would anyone care??

Iv always wanted a berserker skin/ armor for the raider, in Norse history there were the berserkers and Ulfhednar. Ulfhednar we’re wolf warriors smaller in stature and fought with speed, agility, endurance, which is what for honors berserker is, hence the wolf pelt ornament for him. Berserkers we’re bigger and wore bear pelts and fought with strength, brute force, it would be perfect for raider to get a berserker bear pelt skin where it’s the only thing he has on and he bare chested. And they should release the same thing for berserker as well but give him a wolf pelt and have him be bare chested. There was also the Svinfylking which were boar warriors and they would wear boar pelts, that should be for the warlord, warlord does have a boar ornament like berserkers wolf one but they really should do this, and have the pelts running down there back and over the shoulders. Ubi will never do this though because they suck

Lamellar armor is what you're thinking of. The Mount and Blade games use a lot of these armors when portraying "viking"/Nordic characters and clans.

I came back to for honor after 3 years and was not surprised to find it was somehow even more unbearable than when I left. They've added like 5 new shit characters, tons of ass customisation, and murdered the fun movesets with 'reworks'.

I agree with a lot of what you said but orochi's rework was needed, and her nerf was unjustified. Jorm definitely needs a rework after sitting at the bottom in all modes for years now

The Viking ones are my favorite characters, yet I mostly play knights because I can't stand the Viking "fashion" :(

If only the armour we'd gotten at launch was more varied. As it stood, all it amounted to was variation on the same concept. Warden was the half-plate, patchwork mail pseudo-knight, Raider was the shirtless mongoloid and Kensei had flimsy wooden armour. And it's the same for everyone else. PK is the hooded assassin with little difference between sets, Lawbringer looks mostly the same no matter what and Conq only looks good with sleeves and a brim. If the armour actually got better and more complete as you ranked up, getting cleaner, more diverse with unique styles (like for Warden actually getting a full fucking breastplate instead of just the same pitiful patchwork of mail, padding and plate, Kensei getting some metal armour or Raiden just putting on a shirt for once) then there would actually be reason to really play the game more, to make yourself look even more distinct. But Ubisoft is so hellbent on giving us obscure, unconventional armour designs that leave us scratching our heads and we genuinely don't have content that scratches the itch I have for true customisation. I wouldn't mind if the armour we had was lower tier stuff, but we know that's not the case. For people who seem to champion player expression, they're doing a piss poor job of it. tl;dr: Artwork of For Honour on pinterest has more interesting and satisfying armour designs than anything Ubisoft can do.

I had my hopes high with the warlord getting the campaign Armor release around the time they released Warmonger, I was hopeful that since they were now pulling out the story of the for honor and putting heros in from content they already own, A much needed warlord touch up was around the corner. And that he would finally look like the gigachad in the story mode. I was like you, I main Vikings, I hit that Berserker up and was always interested in Warlord but he just looked like hot vomit, not gonna lie (Only thing that kept me being berserker was honestly his ornaments) but the stuff for Warlord never came. He sits there at rep 2, for 6 years. I play him now and again and think about how cool he could've been, how he could've been my main. But alas, here we are. Another Warden rework anyone???
