UBOAT is a WW2 submarine simulator game where you are a captain of a UBOAT. As the captain it will be up to you to ensure that you have all the necessary supplies for your UBOAT and be able to manage your crew. You will be faced with very tough challenges and even tougher decisions that you will have to make on the fly.
The UBOAT campaign takes place between 1939 - 1945 and will see you patrolling all over the Atlantic in hunt for lone ships and large convoys. After spotting your target you will have the challenge on manually imputing all the proper information before finally firing your torpedo and watching as you send thousands of tons worth of shipping to the bottom of the ocean. Did I mention that should you not want to use a torpedo to sink a ship, you have the mighty 88 mm deck gun!
Accept mission and be rewarded through a leveling system in game that allows you to upgrade your officers and give them special abilities that will help you in your future campaigns. Completing missions will also reward you with currency that you can use to upgrade your UBOAT and make it even more difficult for the enemy to discover you and better yet...sink you.
Buy equipment for you crew, gather information to acquire new specialized torpedo's, and send your officers on missions to discover new and special tasks through the world map.
This is your boat and you get to command it however you like. Happy hunting!

Agree with the "torpedos are wimpy" comment. Come on devs, there is footage of ships exploding from WW2. Make it cool!

t1 torps, my dude. You're in Earlydays with Earlykit. They don't quite got the boom yet, also, and it might be me getting the game wrong, but you can light more fires with a torpedo that's closer to the surface, but cause more flooding with one that's a little deeper. just don't let them breach or miss!

The ally was in grid square AN577. If you zoomed in a bit more, you could have seen exactly where they were.

Whenever you're selecting missions, keep an eye out for the rewards and additional notes. If you're lucky enough you can find a boat upgrade blueprint, which is what I used to get the next U-Boat, mine is called U-138

I know I said differently earlier, but the Empire ships can mix and match traits. A posterchild Empire Tower can be an Empire Bell. I don't know how to differentiate between them, I just do the best I can.

My great uncle was on a UBoat that got captured in the Caribbean. My grandmother heard his name on the BBC as being-captured but he was never heard-from again. I'll bet he defected or something. That being said--nice video.

another great vid. not sure i agree about the torp explosions. given youre a ways away and in a submerged boat, i feel it's spot on. also, it's WW2 era tech. i wouldnt want them to juice away the realism.

Whenever it comes to trying to hide from destroyers, upon diving if you hit tab to bring up thr crew menu, on the left you can select silent run : disabled to enable and it makes your crew basically do nothing. They won't do any tasks that will involve or could create alot of noise (like loading a torpedo while being hunted) Having silent mode on has saved me a few times while playing

Also! About 19:45 you said that they think it's a miss. It is annoying, but I think what's going on is when the torpedo passes the exact expected intercept point the miss is called out. So if the merchant ship is just behind it, it is in fact a hit. I don't think that helps anything on your side though, so I don't know why I said it. My head came up with this lil' scenario. A hydrophone operator that has no confidence in your abilities calculates exactly how long the torpedo will take to hit and is watching his stopwatch when he doesn't hear the explosion at that exact moment he calls out a miss but then is proven wrong a half second later

Yes. There are no windows on the sub. If you tell the TDC the range is 1000 yards, they expect it to hit when it reaches 1000 yards. Your torpedoes are travelling longer than 1000 yards because you're not using the TDC correctly and they're travelling longer than they should to their targets. Thus, when the watch says they've gone 1000 yards and there is no explosion, they're correctly calling it a miss. The fact that you're hitting anything is mostly luck because you're usually in a good firing position.

I found that you can use your AA gun to sink dead ships (and subs) pretty easily if you're close enough. Saves on Torpedoes.

Do you play with or without mods? i haven't played this game a while and i only just found out this huge update. i don't remember an existing, vanilla TDC or a better looking sinking physics. great immersion btw.

It is due to the expected impact point for the torpedo being missed, so it's not really a bug.

in looking for the Uboat wasnt the grid square AN577 meaning the 7th square of AN57? could you of zoomed in more?

Taking prisoners onboard isn't terribly realistic, especially on a boat as small as a type 2. Where would you put them? There's no seccure spaces on a U boat. The fact that U boat captain Karl-Adolf Schlitt managed to cripple his boat (U-1206) by mishandling the boat's toilet forcing everyone aboard to abandon the vessel after it was forced to the surface in front of allied escorts also shows how dangerous having prisoners onboard could be. Even if they're not actively trying to sabotage you, they could still sink you by accident just by touching something they shouldn't!

I’m always struck by the realistic pointlessness of taking freighter officers as POWs. Honestly, how much do they actually know? Maybe it’s about POW trades but taking a wartime look at the value of a freighter captain, I wouldn’t put a lot of value in him as a trade. His food and monitoring are more valuable than anything he could provide.

So far I am really enjoying it. Apart from a few hick ups here and there, but nothing major....it feels like a much more refined UBOAT. It's feels a bit more like a sub sim now. Prior to beta, I agreed with many who felt it was too much of an arcade type sub game, but now its more along the lines of a Silent Hunter type game. Still has a ways to go though in order to match the SH games in terms of how in depth they go

During my playthrough I noticed that the Captain can only use one man to help him aim. The second man for me went to his bunk, or jumped on the radio. Does he work for you?

Yeah the first officer works fine on my end. Always tending to the navigation and TDC when attacking

Am I alone in the concept of bullying your sailors at the maximum extent possible in the beginning of the campaign to sort the sea wolves from the sheep long before you need to find out?

Yes, a good captain always take good care of his crew. Bullying the crew just hurt morale and effectiveness.

I find that it's a lot more pleasant to find out which crew members are cowards with no contacts within 100km and calm seas than it is while being depth charged in the portsmouth. Though the comedy of failures of all your guys on DC freaking out and running and hiding as you sink to the bottom is also pretty funny.
