Hello and welcome to a new video on Uboat. In this video, we get command of our first uboat designated U-96 as we take her a new mission to install a secret weather station
UBOAT
UBOAT is a simulator of a submarine from WWII era, yet different than all you have seen so far. It is a survival sandbox with crew management mechanics while its primary theme is life of German sailors. The boat is their home, but it can become their grave at any time.
In UBOAT you control the crew in order to control the boat. You look after their physical and mental health, because if the sailors are hungry, tired and their spirit is low, there’s no chance of winning even a skirmish.
Survival
The extensive damage system is a foundation of the game's survival elements. Unprecedented situations are bound to happen as the effect of received damage, testing player's creativity and ability to stay calm. You can try to save the whole crew or leave someone behind, to save the others.
While your ship travels through the open seas, you will often find yourself being on your own. Use your management skills to spend resources taken on the trip optimally and in special cases try to recover them on the sea, by asking your allies for the help... or by looting wreckages of enemy ships.
Disable unnecessary devices, to keep your accumulators running for longer.
Tell your crew to stay in their bunks to preserve oxygen.
If crew's morale is low - play with them a session of Skat or play music from nearby radio stations, to fortify their hearts.
Kriegsmarine career
During the playthrough you will receive assignments from the Kriegsmarine headquarters. They are never linear and you may receive additional orders during them or face unexpected problems.
Brave completion of assignments from the headquarters is rewarded with additional budget for the unit under your command and with acceptance of your growing reputation as an u-boat's skipper. You will need that, to upgrade your ship and keep up with enemy's technological advances.
Upgrade your boat for the rewarded funds.
Receive additional permissions for the reputation points.
Buy new equipment - new torpedo types, sonar decoys, CO2 absorbers and much more.
Send your officers on special tasks in the headquarters to, among other things, speed up a research of new technologies.
Accurate simulation
Game's simulation elements are very realistic, but that never comes at a cost of gameplay quality. Despite extensive simulation elements, UBOAT can be played like a regular game and complex matters can be learned later to become a better skipper for the commanded unit.
Even small things like the influence of ballast in each compartment on the ship's trim (tilt) or Earth's curvature are faithfully reproduced in the game.
Perfection can be achieved in many ways. Prove your management skills and swiftly assign work to your officers to speed things up. If, on the other hand, you think that if something needs to be done, it's better to do that on your own - sit behind the periscope, hydrophone or 88 mm deck gun and take matters in your own hands!

I wonder if this action was reasonable? Three ships sink next to the Bear Island and a whole lot of survivors who may reach the island and discover the weather station. Then the whole plan would be wasted. In addition, the emergence of the U-96 and the taking of the crew could be noticed and also give food for thought that the island is being used by the Germans. By the way, Alistair MacLean wrote a good book about Bear Island. Apparently, the Germans wanted to hide the gold there at the end of the war. It was the basis for writing the book. Based on the book, a very good sensational film (1979) was made - Bear Island - starring Donald Sutherland. Very good movie. I also saw a Soviet documentary where Soviet polar explorers find and show the remains of such a German station. Regards.

Hey, Taff! Great video, the game looks a lot more polished than I remember. I think I might have to do a Uboat series for my own channel at some point.

The lads on the away team were no doubt happy to be back on the boat after watching three enemy ships light up the dark sky! When a team is deployed does the game's response time also slow down by some proportion? ((For example: We are normally faster at submerging, but our best crewmen for executing that task are currently with the team on shore...)). Fun content as usual so I will be right here for the next adventure!

Another great video. I always wondered why the AI doesn't become more aggressive when allies are sunk nearby. The Destroyers just seem to sleepwalk into being destroyed, surely it would be realistic for them to start zigzagging, vary speed, and begin using countermeasures? They just seem quite sanguine about everything.

There is only one explanation for this lack of response: They didn't make it - typical phlegmatism of the upper class English gentleman! It was probably five o'clock - tea time. This is of course a joke. I am just reading a book about British (also Polish) submarines during WW2. It is a pity that there is no game that allows to hunting in a British submarine in the Mediterranean Sea. And if it was a ship of the Polish Terrible Twins (ORP Sokół or ORP Dzik) based in Malta, it would be really fantastic.

no, no, no .. The weather station needed to be setup on the quiet .. yet you destroyed, very fortunately, 3 slow moving destroyers..now the entire allied war machine knows something happened on bear island. Sacked. :D

I headed to the Norwegian Port in Novemeber 41 except i havnt found any Arctic convoys, i typed in detect all in the console thing and wasnt a single ship anywhere.
@PerfectDeath4
@PerfectDeath4 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if the vanilla version added arctic convoys yet, I remember finding a map some players made that showed the implemented convoys at that time and it was only the north atlantic from canada to UK, the African, and Mediterranean routes. There might be some mission specific spawned routes though.

@@PerfectDeath4 so it could be some sort of mod ? i ve seen peoples vids hitting arctic convoys but they are always around 1943... not end of 1941
@PerfectDeath4
@PerfectDeath4 2 жыл бұрын
@@cotton9087 yeah, the map i was looking at was also titled as "1941 only convoys that do not have end date" So it may well be that some convoys only exist at certain times, Barbarossa happened June 22, 1941 but I'd have to look at convoy times to find out that =P

3:52 I doubt the Canadians would have a meteor service in this time, let alone give it to the Nazis, what's up with that?
@chrismillard8222
@chrismillard8222 2 жыл бұрын
I wondered about that too. But hey importing and exporting was happening only a couple of years before, maybe Canadian weather equipment was something used at the time in the meteorological service and the Germans used whatever equipment they had.
@Seraph062
@Seraph062 2 жыл бұрын
@@chrismillard8222 It was a disguise. The model for the weather station is based on one discovered in Newfoundland. The Germans put some effort into trying to trick anyone who might find the station into thinking it was a Canadian station. This included not only labeling the thing "Canadian Meteor Station" (despite the fact that wasn't actually a thing, and that Newfoundland wasn't part of Canada), but also things like lesving allied cigarette packs lying around the site.

@@jamesrussell7760 Except that during WW2, it wasn't. It didn't become part of Canada until 1949. Prior to that it was a Dominion. But, even now they rarely identify as Canadians first. A bit like the Quebecois.
