@@skylinesranches2 Nah, they were smart enough to know when a prof is on some bs, they know that first day isn't too late for a schedule change to fit a better prof, and they were informed while leaving that this was a joke which is why they then came back and sat down.

I'm confused: finals in the US don't count for more than 60% of the grade? Here in Switzerland we barely have any finals that count for less than 100%, I mean we don't have any other grades than the finals

It is up to the discretion of the professor how they want to distribute grades in their class, but I have never encountered a professor that has made a final count for more than 60% of the grade in the US. I have had classes where your exams count for 100% of your grade, but those classes usually provide at least 3 exams.

I remember my engineering professor's syllabus. 90% is based on 1 final exam.

I haven't been a Student at a University for a few years. But when I was going to a State University in Upstate New York, in the late 1970's, they did have some Professors who may have been great Scholars, but they couldn't speak English. I don't know if they still do that.

If this happened in my class, I would've stood up and said something like "I don't know who you are, but you're not the correct professor and everything you say is bull. You're going to have a 60% drop out rate in a hot minute if this is for real." Looking back on this one year later... I definitely would have asked what happened to the professor who was listed to teach the class. Also many questions about the syllabus, but that gets technical.

I don't really get why people were so up in arms. When I was in school I never had any clue who would be teaching a course. Now people do? And that's why they're upset? I mean, that's a good thing that they know; I guess I'm still confused though.

@Remi Rms If 60% of your final grade in the course comes from one single exam, you had better do EXCEPTIONAL on that exam. It's much more ideal to have say, 30% of your final grade be the final exam, and the rest of your grade spread out between homeworks and quizzes.

@@Miguel-xk5sl Oh ok, like so. I mean, last semester all main 6 courses I had were graded 100% from the final exam. I had only 2 minor courses which are not like that. That's why I was confused.

@@remirms2239 Your final grade for the entire course came 100% from your final exam? I've never heard of that, I feel sorry for you! All of my University courses have the final grade for the course spread out between homeworks, sometimes quizzes, and exams. So about 10% of my final grade comes from homeworks, each exam counts for about 30% of my final grade in the course and there are usually 3 exams per semester, 30% times 3 is 90%, plus 10% is 100%. I wonder where you're from that your final course grade comes 100% from your final..

@@Miguel-xk5sl Yeah, I think it's a European (Belgian) thing. But nice to know that it's different in North America (?). I think that's a way better and fairer system, which rewards your true effort more. When I go to Canada during the next fall semester, I hope they also do it like that.

@@remirms2239 Yep, I'm in the U.S.A. I see other comments on this video where a number of Europeans said their final exam counted for 100% of their final grade. I do see the logic in doing so, but it just seems a little unfair, like you said. I hope for your sake it's like that in Canada as well. I would be incredibly anxious if our courses were graded the way yours are. Best of luck to you in your studies!!!!

UCD has really gone off the deep end since I was there in the early '90s. It used to be called Under Construction Daily, don't know what to call it now. Undergraduate seems to be a joke now, Enderle seems more like a stand up comedian than a professor. I know this is just lower division Chem but are all the profs now entertainers instead of educators? That said, I always wanted to start my lower division classes as though they were graduate Physics. Never did it because it would have been unprofessional and I would not have been a good role model of hard work and professionalism.

girl this was a 5 min prank on the first day of class, which is usually a syllabus day anyways. enderle is arguably the best CHE2 professor, he's entertaining AND an amazing teacher. take a seat
