Probably many reasons Geno is a great coach. I think it starts with being real and calling it as it is. Only then can the problems be solved.

@@azeemindawala Yeah but when you’re in a program like UConn your goal is not only to win but to dominate the games. Paige never experienced more than 3 loses (2 before this game) in her career at UConn and considering the fact that she came back from surgery and recovery and still fought through the game to keep up she has every right to be upset the way she was. We’re all disappointed but improvement is yet to come and nc state absolutely deserved to win and we’re thankful they exposed flaws that are fixable.

I’ve been watching Uconn almost 30yrs. There are so many things that have changed. The competition has gotten some much better. The coaching has gotten better. If you look back at all the games they lost, the other teams have been much quicker, or they pressured the ball. They have too many turnovers, they are not aggressive on the boards. There were a lot of players that didn’t show up. They will get better, but it won’t be easy. The days of domination are over.
@bbwng54

They still lack height, which partially contributes to them "not being aggressive on the boards". They will not fare well against Angel Reese, Aneesah Morrow, Cameron Brink, etc.

Interesting take from a UCONN fan. I have felt the same thing as a SC fan. Geno had competition but not at the level and number of quality teams there are currently. Other teams are recruiting at a very high level and getting players that are as good or better. Traditionally, it seems that he coached up the best of the best players. He's the best ever and doubtful anyone will match him in terms of dominance over time.

UConn was overconfident having both Fudd and Beckers in the lineup after almost 2 years and their bigs just stood around... while NC State was fired up and hitting on all cylinders. That's how an unfairly unranked team beats a top ranked team. I expect NC State is a top 15 team and UConn got its wake-up call.

Geno and UCONN spent 11 championships telling the rest of the NCAA they had to get better - and they did. There is so much really good talent throughout the Women's NCAA now. It's going to be a tough year for UCONN if they stay over confident - and they're my team. Great game from NC State.

I think Geno was being a diplomat in seeing "There's never a good time for a loss" But I feel like deep down he knows this could be a good thing for the team. Azzi needs to play better... I think she went 1 for 9. I still have to watch the whole game but Caroline didn't do much either. I wonder what happened with Patterson. I would have hoped she could be a player and Ice Brady. But yeah - theres A TON of talent nationwide - Juju Watkins, that rookie at Notre Dame, the Mikaylah williams had 42 points last night... a freshman at S. Carolina balled out last week. It's a marathon though - It's the TEAM That plays best that will be there in late March... Let's see which teams sustain these flashes of incredible play.

@@mrmojorisin8752Stop. That's literally one game, early in the season, with a team with low expectations. She's a solid player but massively overrated. She doesn't have the mental game, and she has holes in her skill set. They needed her, and she shot 4/13 and 1/7, that's atrocious. Her best thing by far is spot up 3's and she's a career 38% shooter. Compare that to Paige, who shoots 44%, and no ever even talks about her 3 pt shooting. Therein lies the problem, Paige is measurably better than Azzi at Azzi's BEST thing, and not even in Paige's league in anything else....yet you hardly see or hear one without the other in the press. They desperately want her to be what she just isn't. Geno continully props her up and almost never criticizes her ( except playfully kid for being a reluctant superstar) because he knows she's mentally fragile. In the NCAAs as a frosh she shot an anemic 36% from the field and disappeared completely in the finals. Last year, without Paige, she shot 35%, a pathetic 21% from 3, and had 2X as many TOs as assists. She's literally had 4 or 5 games ( out if 42) in 2+ years where she played like something approaching and AA. That's completely flipped. She's played her career like a less-efficient Steve Kerr, not Scottie Pippen...despite the MSM's desire to annoint her as such. Paige doesn't have Robin.

The biggest difference I see with the UConn teams the last several years versus before is the lack of an "edge", an aggressive, tough attitude, and the physicality to back it up. As a team they lack toughness mentally, and physically. At times they just look lazy for lack of a better word, Standing around watching the game rather than inflicting their will upon it. Full speed when it happened, it looks like she got popped really hard - incidental, but hard. The replay though seem to suggest any contact was no where near how Muhl reacted. Looking at Muhl over on the bench when the refs were reviewing the play, her demeanor seemed as a player who wasn't really hit or wasn't really hit that hard. You sound ridiculous blaming Edwards....Edwards is a pro and will play at the next level. Guard Azzi Fudd, was the #1 ranked overall recruit of her class...Ducharme was # 5 in the same class, both ranked far higher than Edwards. Neither of these players deserved their ranking; neither will play at the next level. Its now comical to think that Fudd was ranked over - Sellers at Maryland, Harmon at Texas, Johnson at SC, Miles at Notre Dame and Rivers at NC State, who torched UCONN in a head-to-head match with Fudd. Imagine UCONN recruiting Fudd over all these better players - same goes for Ducharme, who isn't even good enough as an upperclassman to play more than 14 mins in a game UCONN was trailing most of the second half. Geno had more trust in freshman Samuels, whose play warranted it. Check yourself on Edwards...she is arguably the team's best player...best because when the game is on the line or in danger, Geno calls time out and almost always runs a play to get the ball to Edwards. Fudd, Ducharme, Muhl, and serial absentee DeBerry, aren't going to win UCONN anything. The team will go only as far as Edwards and Bueckers can take it.

You're a brain dead troll, trying to pick on the single player who showed up, and was playing in only her second game in 590 days and is a joke. She was 5X better than her next teammate and she's hust getting started. They sucked, get over it. You need to bring receipts but you cant....your obviously some hater, probably a fan of the low efficiency unconscionable gunning, zero D playing dude at Iowa

Nice that she got her 27, but they lost and lost big. What UConn did not get from PB that they really needed was leadership. She needed to have a DT moment and put the team on her shoulders and fire them up…did not happen. Geno needs to have a good week in practice and make sure each and every player understands their role and is confident in delivering on their role.

the word is "overrated." No UCONN fanatic will admit it because its too embarrassing. They want you to believe that Chrystian Williams, Bueckers, and Fudd were all actually the #1 players coming out of high school. Go back and look at the top 100 players the year each came out...not even close.

Paige is a solid player and being at UCONN will always get constant hype...but wouldn't rank her over Caitlin Clark or Cordoso at SC in impacting big games. It saddens me seeing paige's face. You can tell everyone wanted this win, especially her, however. It's better to have a loss early in the season than late. My big takeaway, though, is that as much as I love uconn, they definitely were relying on former season talents rather than realizing they have a bunch of freshmen on their team. Not to mention alot of their best players had major injuries last season so much so they missed out on 99% of the games so while they were going to rehab and regaining strength to even play basketball at all the other teams were practicing and competing. They need more practice and to form a tight-knit unit on the court, not just off. 😮‍💨

The Game was won or lost on the feeling of being not able to do... that was done by being guarded so closer in the 3rd Quarter not allowing our players to shoot out side correctly which what they crave... Unhappiness is team sickness that engulfs or spreads from player to player, quickly!!! It is a Coach's night mare caused by; which could be by the coach or the lost of confidence by just the littles thing here it was out side shooting, 3's..... if in the First Quarter then the Second Quarter, missed wide open 3's, if only some would have gone in; the Third Quarter would had been so different... the actual score would been different too!!! The Third Quarter we passed up multi times to shoot the 3!!! But Q. S. Came Through but not enough!!!! Need to follow your own shot... basic BB play!!!! But in practice you do not chase it and they throw you another ball you get spoiled!!!

Let's all stand around and let Paige do it by herself. It appears to me she is just so far ahead of them others mentally, they simply don't know what to do where to go. Azzi just is in a trance watching Paige. Edwards just seems to check out for 1/2 a game at a time. Something is definitely wrong with Caroline. Muhl is another watcher when Paige is in the game. How many layups can they miss. They've had the same problem for at least the last 3 years. They can't seem to handle simple lay ups. Samuels made 3 threes and Geno took her out. After the Dayton game when Azzi make 4 of 12 threes, Geno said you'll never see that again. This game she made 4 of 13. Shade never got her feet on the court, I guess Geno thought the others were playing so well, they didn't need her energy. Was like watching the Ohio State game all over again.

It's early. Half the team is still rusty. Three freshmen. But, the problem still exists that there is no big in the middle. No rim protection. Teams will drive and kick or drive and get Aliyah to foul or just score. No big means no rebounding - many second chances under the cup. Apparently, they've given up on Amari or she's given up on herself. I wouldn't be surprised to see her transfer. I just can't understand why Geno didn't get a big when Jana got hurt. It's a shame because 1 thru 4 they are the most talented team out there but that hole in the middle is going to kill them.

Tough game to watch, UConn was totally out of sorts. NCS played well, but largely because UConn let them by not playing much if any defense. The UConn offense was basically everyone standing around waiting for PB or AF to do something. I got the sense that at the individual level they did not know their role on either end. Why was the new kid taking (and missing) 3s from the corner when she should have been inside? Why was NM not bringing the ball up letting PB freelance more?
