SO it's been almost a month since I took possession of the BMW E36, and in that time apart from getting the mechanical & electrical bits sorted, she's also had a full paint-job, new wheels & tyres, as well as a full tint done! What else...
Well, here you go, I've even done a casual breakdown of the costs involved, but I think have surpassed my planned rm10k all-in budget. I think it was the peripheral stuff that tipped the scales. Oh well, it was always a definite possibility, so on to the next project then!
WAIT, WHAT??
Yup, I'm determined to find a suitable daily-runner to prove that old cars will tick all the boxes, and serve its owner fuss-free (sorta) for years to come, and this time the budget is a mere rm8k! Stay tuned for that! A likely candidate has already been identified...

Haha chanced upon your old video on e36. Actually besides grounding cables, u can consider to replace all the fuses in your old cars as well. Just the normal amon ones will do. Your car will feel refreshed . A larger amp alternator helps too if u installed modern electronics as they tend to put an extra load thru the system

@ChrisWeevilGarage
@ChrisWeevilGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Nice!! Yup, the E46 is a damn good car, but try to get one that has a service history. Most good units have had all their bugs and kinks worked out already, however, just make sure its electricals are in good shape, cos the engine is very robust. Try to find the best example u can, that's NOT been modified. Especially in terms of its electrics. And definitely buy the one that has the best condition interior. Good luck!! Hope u manage to get one 🙏🏽🤞🏾😃

Count wee :D my 2 cents worth, maybe prioritize the shocks instead of utilizing that funding for seat upholstering, or glove compartment or event the loose gear knob....those are vanity adjustments, but leaking shocks could, eat into ur new "kasut" in time. just a thought.

Hi Chris, could you do a video on the benefits of grounding cables and how they work...
@ChrisWeevilGarage
@ChrisWeevilGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Sure!! Maybe when I ground my next car. But in simple terms, GC just stabilizes the electric current that's running thru your car, making it idle smoother and even accelerate faster. Aids fuel efficiency too. Modern day cars don't really require it, but the benefit it has on older cars is very noticeable 😊👍🏾

@ChrisWeevilGarage
@ChrisWeevilGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha!! Nice. I must warn u though, while it's hassle free, easy to maintain and good on gas, it's not a 6cyl, just a 4pot, and doesn't have that characteristic BMW 6cyl "growl" like a 325i or 328i E36/46. If that sound is important to you, don't get a 318 bud. Apart from that, it's a fantastic car, esp this manual variant, but u might find the auto variant a bit underpowered 🙏🏽 Pro Tip: avoid any units with a sunroof, it's not worth the hassle and very expensive to fix if it goes wonky. Prone to leaks due to age and rubber-linings aren't cheap. All the best!!🙏🏽😊

Which is better E46 or E36 overall?
@ChrisWeevilGarage
@ChrisWeevilGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Had to say cos I've never owned an E46, but I'm loving the simplicity of my 36. I'd venture the 46 is more plush, the 36 is more raw, UDM vs. SDP 😊🙏🏽👍🏾

You can pick them up any any reputable car accessory shop, they're called Spring Helpers or Spring Buffers. The best way to find the correct one is to drive your car to the shop and ask any of the sales people to have a look at your springs. The buffers come in many sizes. It's a simple thing really, it slots between 2 coils, secured with cable-ties and acts to stiffen the spring a bit. Helpful for old cars on original springs that may be suffering from metal-fatigue. It's a cheap fix, they come in a pack of 2, and they're less than 40 bucks for 2pcs, I'm using 4pcs all round 😊👍🏾

Brother Chris, I would like to know what's special about the E36, because people always say that E36 are better than the E39 when it comes to competing with W210
@ChrisWeevilGarage
@ChrisWeevilGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Good question!! 1st off, u can't compare the e36 with the e39 or w210, they are from totally different classes/categories. As a stand alone car, the 36 is a true "driver's car" imho, from the days when BMW was the Ultimate Driving Machine. Real car enthusiasts adore the 36 for this. Simple and quite basic, easy and relatively cheap to maintain, it ticks a lot of the right boxes 😁🙏🏽👍🏾
