On Dec. 10, there will be a new proposal in Danish parliament to include education towards the work requirement for permanent residency.
Denmark has some of the strictest laws in the entire European Union for permanent residency- and some of the most restrictive laws for spouses of citizens. I paid tuition and worked part time while studying in Denmark, but I experienced two massive changes to the PR laws in 2016 and in 2017, that uprooted my path to living in Denmark permanently. In 2016, the government decided that education should no longer count towards permanent residency. In 2017, they decided people should be in Denmark at least 8 years before applying, with 3,5 years continuous work history at the time of applying.
When the pandemic hit and I lost my job, my path again to permanent residency was destroyed. I decided to leave Denmark and study in the Netherlands. This will secure my rights to be with my Danish husband under European laws, and give me the security I need to reach my full potential.

Haha not pictured is the huge lamp I had in my studio space! But I still need some lights in my apartment in the Netherlands...

Hello! I've been following your work since June and you're a big inspiration for me! I admire your sustainable architecture work and hope I can do something similar when I get into a college. I don't entirely understand what law changes have happened in Denmark, but I wish the best for you!

thank you Olivia! It is a little difficult to explain, but basically since 2015 there have been over 100 immigration law changes in Denmark, with major changes to study, family and work permits, and also for permanent residency/citizenship. This is due to the refugee crisis, which sparked a large backlash towards immigration across Europe, due to old tensions dating back to the 1980s/1990s with the 'guest worker' programs. This video is a part of a student union campaign, to help the Danish people understand how these law changes affect ordinary people like me. I am glad to hear that you like my content, and hope to keep inspiring! :)

I hope you get to stay :( Obviously the law isn't working if its keeping people like you out. I am worried about it myself because I have a British girlfriend that I might wanna go back to Denmark with at some point

I will come back under European laws :) No, laws like these do work- if your goal is to have 0 foreigners stay permanently. The social democrats are blocking any changes to the laws to show to voters that they are "hard on immigration". But it's people like me, and children in school that moved with their parents that are suffering under it. We just wanna give all our love to this awesome country permanently!
