For anyone having issues importing the assets: 1. Create the appropriate folders (animations, textures, meshes, etc.) 2. Open the Meshes folder first, right click and select the "Import to [Project Directory]" option 3. Select the AK_Rigged.fbx, FPS_Arms_Rigged.fbx, and Glock_Rigged.fbx and import them 4. Go to your animations folder, this time select and import everything that contains "_Anim" at the end of the name 5. A dialog box will open for every animation, click the drop down arrow next to "none" under Mesh>Skeleton 6. Select the mesh that goes with the animation you're trying to import (The mesh you'll select will be the same as the first word in the name of the animation). i.e. "Arms_AK_Run_anim" should use the "FPS_Arms_Rigged" skeletal mesh and so on. Follow that process with every animation import that prompts you 7. All of the remaining assets can be imported to their corresponding folder in any order.

James Harris just right click in a blank space where the folders are and you should be able to create a folder

This taught/explained more and in better detail through the 30 minute runtime than hours of udemy and other youtube playlists have in 2 months. Just getting animations to play on my arms has been a nightmare, You made state machines sound so easy comparatively.

Hello underscore! I am new to unreal and need help with something. When I try to play it says “Attach To: ‘/Game/ThirdPersonBP/Maps/UEDPIE_0_ThirdPersonExampleMap.ThirdPersonExampleMap:PersistentLevel.ThirdPersonCharacter_167.CollisionCylinder’ root component cannot be attached to other components in the same actor. Aborting.” Would you possibly know how to fix this? Thanks in advance. :)

i made my own animations and models and everything works but my running animation is cut off half way and if i put the skeletal thing in a blueprint and then put the blueprint in the player class it doesnt play the animations, can someone help?

Don't know how he got it to work, but you need to open FPSPawn_BP, go to viewport tab, on left side where you apply the mesh for arm their should be something in animation called anim class and place the right one. Should be Arms_AnimBP

You attached the weapon to the right hand bone in BP, but how does the weapon know it has to fit evenly between the fingers of the hand if we didn't manually adjust its position?

I made all the rigs and animations in Maya, where I was able to manually position bones and locations, which was about 90% of the work. Then, once they're in Unreal, they can be dialled in more precisely.

i have a problem, i have tried this tutorial many times but i always failed on the weapon part, when i spawn the weapon and parent it to a bone you cant see it, its oversized and the position is fucked, does this have to do something with the weapon origin? how can i fix this? i did my models with blender

first problem, i scaled my weapon correctly in blender but for some reason is till had do resize areposition and retate my weapon in ue4 because my weapon was way to big and somewhere else on my screen. And i applied the transforms in blender so idk what is causing the problem. second problem, when i finally set up my arms in my character script there is a bug where when you look in some places in the sky or in the ground your arms would disappear but for some reason it doesnt effect the gun.

hi after i import the animations, how did you get the montages. is it as simple as to make a montage and then open it and pick the anim you need?

Yeah thats exactly right! :) Just right-click the animation and at the top of the pop-up menu should be an option to create a montage - then you're good to go!

The easiest way would be to simply disable collision on the inherited capsule component and then just go ahead and use your own custom collision assets - If you don't want the capsule at all though, you can make this pawn totally from scratch in a blank pawn actor (just make sure it includes the 'character movement' components!). Hope that helps! :)

Don't try to import everything all at once, just import as needed as you encounter each asset in the video. This especially applies for animations which require skeletal meshes exist before importing or it asks you and if you assign a default mesh it becomes a huge headache.

Import the meshes first, and then import the animations and specify the mesh in the import window. SOrry for the confusion, I know I don't explain importing stuff very well :/

Sounds like your assets are interfering with your movement. CHeck the collision settings on all your objects (except the capsule) and change them to 'no collision' and see if that fixes it.

Yes there is! :) Check the channel playlist page for the FPS series, its a little weird coz i called it Part 0 and its the last part I uploaded lol. That should help you out, though. If youre running into trouble after that, drop by the discord server and ask there, someone will send you the missing files.

I do have a small suggestion however: I think it'll be easier for us if you could mention that the animation list (that you pick for anim-graph tab for the "loco" state) are based on the ak47, even though they have a different names in your video :)

ah i parnted it to the wrong bone. but now my weapon has a scale of 50 meter and flies 50 cilometers away from my character. the animations play but my gun is un the air!!

You can open the model in Blender, select all objects and hit CTRL+J (command J on mac) to join all the objects. If you're not importing as a skeletal mesh then open the Mesh dropdown in the import window and hit Combine Meshes
