On Episode 1 of UFC 189 Embedded, the sport’s biggest stars converge in New York City, including featherweight contender Conor McGregor, welterweight champion Robbie Lawler and his opponent Rory MacDonald. After two days of UFC Fight Kit photo shoots, the sport’s champions, executives and media turn out for a massive Reebok launch. And there’s more big news brewing, as featherweight champion Jose Aldo announces that he’ll be unable to fight at UFC 189 - forcing McGregor to quickly shift gears for a new opponent, Chad Mendes. In Sacramento, California, Mendes charges head-first into training for the just-announced title fight. UFC Embedded is an all-access, behind-the-scenes video blog leading up to the championship doubleheader at UFC 189: Mendes vs. McGregor, taking place Saturday, July 11 on Pay-Per-View.

Not interested in "McGregor hype" or "Mendes ending his career". I really like McGregor, I like his fight style and no doubt he's a great fighter, I'm not saying Mendes can't beat McGregor because Mendes is a beast. I just think McGregor will be better due to all the hype, all the training and preparation for a title fight! Either way we have been spoiled, it's an incredible card.

I'm rooting for McGregor and Rory. I would honestly love to see a war in the Mendes fight, to see Conor truly tested so he can prove that he can overcome an elite challenger that can't be KO'd in the first round. Although i wouldn't be disappointed with an early KO haha. And while i definitely wouldn't be surprised by lawler taking the win, by pure aggressive brutality, i see Rory completely shutting him down the way he did, tyron woodly, with ranged strikes and a good defensive gameplan that will keep robbie from landing many shots and gaining momentum.

Excited for the co-main, would be interesting to see Rory fighting for the gold. The whole bruised/broken rib thing seems suspect. It may have been a tactical maneuver from Aldo to see how McGregor does against his past opponent, or take him out of title contention. Or can be a plain old bad rib, and doesn't want to risk his belt to such a dangerous fighter. Who knows. Wish the original fight was still on.

George Barcenas Chad doesn't have slick Bjj like Gunnar and he didn't submit him, he had him in a body triangle and the buzzer went off.. Didn't Conor say he sparred 15 different guys that day/night alone, he will go through Mendes, the wrestling won't be a huge factor, it will be the size, movement and boxing of McGregor.

It's amazing to see Conor with the same exact people, to this day, that he was with when he STARTED his MMA career. Not just the UFC, mind you, but his ENTIRE career. Loyalty is such an important characteristic, and he's got it in spades. He didn't just get to the top and say "Peace out!"; he brought everyone with him. That's a rarity in this sport (or in any sport, for that matter). I'm sure SBG is a great camp in Ireland, but there are many better camps in the US, and Conor would've had his pick of any of them. Instead, he stuck with his people, determined to make it with them or fail trying. You gotta respect that.

I think Conor would matchup better against Aldo. With Mendes however he has no chance of winning, he will be stuck the whole fight, he won't be able to throw kicks to avoid takedowns and his punches will be very predictable. Mendes and Mcgrecor are on a whole different levels now. This is a bad matchup.

R. Long Right, Aldo is too fast and got too much weapons that Conor can't handle, the thing is I assume Aldo will get in there with a standing game plan, so this will be at least good for Conor. But Mendes, Oh man that would be ugly.

R. Long who exactly has Mendes beat that puts him on a whole other ever? He got a title shot after beating 2 no ones in the UFC. Then gets another title shot after beating more no ones and Clay Guida. Save for his last fight against Lamas, hes fought nobodies as well.
