How can you be questioning his matial arts background while the dude's a former taekwondo olympian medalist? You took the time to search the records of his competition and speculate whether he has talent or not rather than find footage of his taekwondo fights to see if the dude was game or not?.. this is just mediocre work, please do your research if you wanna be a MMA media

Ill be back when robelis kos parisian in the first round. just so you know, you have to defect cuba and leave your family and homeland to go pro, thats why hes older, just like romero was. simple google search couldve cleared that up for you. furthermore, a 3-0 guy fighting a 1-0 guy is entirely normal early on peoples careers, many boxers and mma fighters fight a long list of cans before getting real tests. he has had 4 fights, and won all of them by first round ko, for you to call that a fraud is just beyond me. @@BetSlamWithSam I don't get the logic with calling him a fraud. He is unproven to those who actually knows MMA. He has credentials in Taekwondo sure but have we ever seen anyone with decent takedown ability put him down? Gane was also great at his sport. But he folded easily to strong wrestlers or just anyone who knew a thing or two about wrestling in general. I get the hype. He is very tall, has the longest reach in UFC history at this point apparently, and has nothing but KO's on his MMA record but this is easy to look into with a bit of research. Are you considering him a fraud because UFC is trying to hype him up? Isn't it logical as a fighting business to do so with a new up and comer padded record or not? Yea, they are basically throwing Parisian to a wolf supposedly and this does happen quite a lot especially in the UFC for a debut fight but why should we call the guy a fraud because of that? He hasn't even had the chance yet to prove himself against elite competition. I think the real problem here is the misuse of the word "fraud." Say he is unproven. Say he is still a novice in true MMA. Say he is untested. There are plenty of more accurate words to describe the man rather than just calling him a fraud.

1. Despaigne (just like any other Cuban fighter) is a late arrival because of the super complex political situation of Cuba, which prevents him from having a normal transition. 2. He doesn't choose his opponents. 3. He is a decorated martial artist with Olympic medals and 20+ years of competition in different sports. Bottom line: win or lose in the UFC, calling him a "fraud" and providing such superficial "arguments" is really poor work on your part, to put it nicely.

It seems to me that underestimating an Olympic-level taekwondo athlete in that way is a tremendous mistake. A person who knows what hard training is, with years of experience in the sport, coming from Cuba, should always be treated with caution, and they should never be underestimated. It's like if a wrestler like Mijain Lopez (4-time Olympic champion) were to come, and you tell me he's going to lose because he doesn't know how to strike or kick; no, the guy will annihilate you.

@@BetSlamWithSam I've seen these same doubts cleared in other cases. I remember, for example, the issue of baseball, in the first World Baseball Classic with Cuba. Comments like, "They are not professionals," and so on, were common, and in the end, they finished as runners-up. The same has happened with Cuban boxers; people underestimate them. For instance, with David Morrel and the great Aidos Yerbossynuly, who said he hadn't seen any good Cubans as professionals, and look how it turned out. Similar things were said about Aroldis Chapman, and he proved to be a beast. I could mention an endless list of Cubans who were underestimated. And I want to emphasize that it's not that I am Cuban and hyping them up; it's just that history speaks for itself. One must be cautious with Cubans in sports because, whether professionals or not, they have shown they believe in themselves. Just ask Yoel Romero.

No idea how he got in the big show already when he hasn't really been tested yet. However, he's a big guy with a high-level striking background. A lot times guys get fast tracked to the big shows because of their accomplishments in other sports like Brock Lesnar. This guy is an Olympic bronze medalist too. I have to watch his Taekwondo matches to see what he really looked like back then, but I know that's a huge accomplishment. Also, guys that dedicate themselves to one combat sport don't typically come over to MMA until they've had hundreds of matches so they're normally older when the make the transition because it is so much to learn. I'm curious to see how he holds up in his next few fights. Great job with the rant and thanks for sharing! ~ London

Regarding age, that is not relevant for Cuban athletes, especially in the heavyweight categories. Genetics play a significant role, and I myself am almost 50 years old (having only briefly trained in Judo in my youth, not even at an elite level), and I appear to be 30 years old. He debuted at that age because he had no other option due to political issues, as is always the case with Cubans.

He’s 35 years old and only 4 fights into an MMA career because he already had a career in taekwondo. He won the Olympic bronze medal in 2012. Some people will come along bashing you because he beat Parisian, BTW I predicted he would beat Parisian also. However I disagree with the hype he is getting, it's like people are pretending he is already the second coming of Francis Ngannou or something. If we look at the Parisian fight, he actually got tagged a few times and was in a little trouble in fact. That fight told me that this guy won't get to the top of the division, unless the UFC seriously cherry pick his opponents. A part of me also feels like a takedown guy would beat him, someone like Blaydes etc. It is true he is getting up there in age for an MMA fighter, so there probably isn't time to mess around giving him nobodies to fight, they should make him fight someone like Rozenstruik or Pavlovich next. BTW those are also matches he has a chance in at least, since those guys are strikers, I feel they are better strikers than Robellis, however I feel he has natural gifts above them as well (so he has a chance). I think a guy like Tom would take him down and submit him very quickly though, however we will just have to wait and see. He is an interesting addition to the UFC.
