This is literally the whole reason they did the IC. They want the fans to put pressure on Jon, and Dana simultaneously acting like he doesn't care what Jon does creates a situation where Jon needs them more than they need him, and will allow them to pay Jon less, because they will have more leverage than they would otherwise. You can rest assured Dana isn't talking like that behind the scenes. And, they didn't offer the IC to Stipe because they needed to ensure that someone who was still gonna be around for a while had it, because the belt needs a clear lineage. They hate when a champ vacates or retires with the belt. We've seen it repeatedly. DC isn't going against the company, he's pushing fans to do exactly what they want them to do. But, of course, that is a good thing and I'm glad he's doing it. Personally, though, I'm predicting Stipe by KO

Exactly. This is one of the most egregious abominations in UFC history... Giving Aspinall the "Interim" belt and then just completely ignoring it, and not even considering giving him a title shot. Dana and Hunter should be fired as matchmakers at this point, their matchmaking has been some of the worst in UFC history as of late.

@larrytate1657 And as much as I think ciryl gane is an entertaining fighter with beautiful striking skill, I also heavily believe tom outclasses cirly on the feet as well. I know MMA math is horrid but ciryl gane went 5 rounds with alexander volkov in a decently competitive fight and he won the decision, he also beat sergei spivak at the end of round 2 by TKO, however, Tom HUMILIATED volkov on the feet and proceeded to submit him in the first round, and KOd spivak in the first round. Tom has more explosive speed than gane and still holds more power.

I may be wrong, but I feel like most MMA fans think that Jones fighting Stipe is a complete waste of time... You can't even really call it a legacy fight because Stipe hasn't fought in like 5 years. It feels more like a gimmick fight , like watching Chael box Silva. Let's have the best fight the best. That's what the UFC is about! I don't think I'd care as much if Jones wasn't champion. They shouldn’t have a choice right now to make that fight. Aspinall is the interim champ. You can’t compare you getting chose over Gustafson because he wasn’t the interim champ. If they want the fight with Stipe, why should it be for the belt? Both of them will just retire anyway right after. Strip Jon and have him fight Stipe if it’s so “big” of a fight. If Aspinall wins this fight, move Alex up and let the real ones handle business. I feel there should be a rule that if the Interim champ defends his/her belt, that should automatically become the Undisputed. That means the champ has been out too long. Even if it’s because of injury, you should still be stripped if you are out over a year.

I can not say that Jones is ducking Aspinall. I'm not a Jones fan ( I appreciate his insane skills, though), but I don't think he's that type of guy. When you look at his body of work, he doesn't duck people. With that being said though, I think Tom Aspinall will beat any heavyweight on the planet at this point, including Jon Jones, (until im proven wrong of course, as that is always possible) and if people were avoiding Sergei, they would be scared shitless of Aspinall. The man is a tank who hits like a locomotive (fast and powerful) and moves around the cage like a middleweight. I know from a lifetime of watching fighting that the very best can get caught one time and be sent to the underworld in heavyweight combat and Curtis can shut anyone out, but, I think Tom takes him and takes him well. But, we will only know the outcome when it happens.

I like Aspinall but last fight he got caught 3 times throwing low kicks before he got injured. Hopefully he's learned

Last fight Aspinall knocked dude out in less than a minute. Blaydes doesn't seem to have threatening power... just good wrestling and threatening pace

I think the whole UFC board is praying for Curtis rn lmao The Stipe fight is somewhat "justifiable" since they agreed the fight a year ago (it's still pretty forced given the fact that Tom is the interim champ), but after that there isn't a SINGLE reason why Jones should fight Pereira and not Aspinall. At this point if I was Jon and I want to avoid Aspinall so much I would just vacate the title. The majority of people are thinking Tom as the champion anyway, and the Jones-Pereira fight would be MASSIVE even without the belt, I don't think it adds much to the value of the fight. And Jones has been a champion for so long, if he successfully defends against Stipe he could also say that he defended his belt in both divisions already.

Lowkey UFC wants Tom to keep the belt and unify it, he's a massive star in UK/EU region which is important and a big $ maker for UFC. Dana just too stuck in his own ways and as usual no one can tell him differently

Jon Jones truly "bit off more than he can chew" by stepping into the HW division.. He has put his legit GOAT title on the line.. If he does not fight Tom Aspinall, there will forever be an asterisk next to his name - and it literally paints JJ as scared. JJ knows TA will run true him... Catch 22 much?

It feels unlikely to me that Jon will fight Tom after Stipe. Just imo he doesn't seem receptive to the matchup but I would be very happy to be wrong. I think he'll retire most likely. 2nd most likely maybe he would demand Alex. I feel Tom is least likely of 3. And then Francis is at powerball odds

I think his ego too fragile to retire after Stipe if Tom gets a good victory over Curtis. He can yap all he wants on twitter but majority of fans already think hes ducking Tom, retiring will cement that imo.

@@morpheusmedia_au I agree, most fans feel he's ducking Tom. I am just unsure if he will want to risk his 0 if he beats Stipe. I feel ego can go either way. I feel it depends on his confidence v Tom but just imo. I agree w you mostly, and I hope you are right about him fighting Tom next. If this happens I will be very excited for that fight!
