For some videos, you can read a list and move on because the list covers the video. This is not that video. You should watch the entire video because that's the only value. And this video has more value per second than most all MMA-ish videos on YT. I'm super guilty of this. In fact, you should watch this video several times until the lessons get ingrained into your skull. Big thanks to Cory for putting in the time to create this. More important, big thanks to creating content that bucks the TT/IG trend of garbage on the intertubes.

Thank you for bringing the "philosopher" as well as the "warrior" to the fighting space. A lot of MMA fans might forget, but many of history's greatest warriors were also deep thinkers when they weren't, you know...waging war.

Sandman that statement "I'm not smart I just read books that smart people write." is powerful. Your genius is that you have humility and thats a trait that isn't talked about much. I look for wisdom outside of myself also and you said a few things that I'll be trippin on this week.....Really digging this "station" keep it up and thanx
@keion_arknights7 ай бұрын
Yeah lol, reading books and taking away actionable steps kind of inherently sets you far above the average. It's like a programmer saying "I'm not smart, I'm just good at googling things and applying it."

Watching your stuff and hearing you on podcasts over the years, you give amazing advice on a growth mindset and how to really improve as a person. As someone who sometimes struggles with discipline and setting goals watching your stuff has really helped me understand the process of not just martial arts but life and the mindset that you need to get better at things. Thanks for being such a positive influence not only in mine but I'm sure other people's lives. Keep doing what you're doing brotha and can't wait to see you get that title shot and win!

What about Blood Meridian? Has helped me immensely and on a scale I can't even begin to consider, for the teachings I've gained from it are near unlimited. It teaches one a lot about how to actually inherit, teaches you a lot about the violence that men & nations replicate amongst themselves. And how to control it

Cory, I highly recommend Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. You have to be super patient with it and some pages and lines you have to re-read like 10 times before it makes sense, but if you persist with it, it delves into the nature of war like no other book I've ever read. Genuinely frightening, but absolutely beautiful at the same time. Here's a quote: "War was always here. Even before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner .”
@Jimmyjim46 ай бұрын
Damn that’s ice cold
@lancestabler76506 ай бұрын
I second this. All of McCarthy is excellent. Blood Meridian is easily his magnum opus though and stands as the greatest book I've read to date, and I've read hundreds across a large number of genres.
@willis33976 ай бұрын
@@lancestabler7650 Yep. Every McCarthy book I've read has blown me away but BM is etched into my brain in a way that no other book has. A true genius.
@thomaslawson74696 ай бұрын
McCarthy is a good writer, but everyone be forewarned: his shit is dark and grisly, and not to speak ill of him since he’s passed on, but sometimes he just comes off as a miserable and wretched person through his writing (a la Stephen King). For example, “Child of God” by him is one of the most revolting things I’ve ever read, and because I read it for a class we discussed how he was poor and living in Tennessee at the time he wrote the book and may have been projecting onto those around him. Anyways, someone here lmk if you’ve read it and agree.
@lancestabler76506 ай бұрын
@thomaslawson7469 Suttree is the most realistic personification of McCarthy and his upbringing in the south. The book itself is semi autobiographical and all of his books take place in the south. He is considered a southern Gothic writer. Why do you ascribe the wretchedness in Child Of God to McCarthy himself?
