In this video we're going to cover the proper application for CeramicSpeed's new UFO Drip formula.

00:12 Preparation before applying UFO Drip
Start by thoroughly shaking the bottle to ensure the wax is all blended evenly. Remove the small over cap and apply the UFO Drip to your chain.
You also want to make sure that your bike chain is thoroughly cleaned before you apply the UFO Drip.
A clean chain is going to give the wax the best opportunity to adhere to the metal of the chain and this will give your chain the best adhesion and longevity.

Once you have hit 2 full times around the chain, stop applying and turn the chain a little bit more to make sure the wax is well down in the rollers, between the links.
When you've applied UFO Drip fully on the chain, you just let the chain dry overnight and you will have a nice dry surface. You want to leave the surface waxed to dry on the chain to help protect it and give a nice dry surface finish.
01:35 Reapplying UFO Drip
When it comes to reapplying, you´re going to start by just wiping down the chain with a clean cloth.
If the chain has not become entirely saturated in mud or dirt, you can go ahead and reapply UFO Drip directly on the chain, without a need for a full clean in between.

UFO Drip will be full optimized once dried on the chain. No additional 'break in' needed when applied as recommended.

Great tutorial! Do you have any suggestions for applying UFO for particularly long rides, past 300km? Should more be applied beforehand, or can an application be made mid ride? Thanks!

Hi Jeff, the 300km expected coating life is measured from a fully coated chain with consistent high level efficiency. After the 300km the efficiency will begin reducing as the wax wears down. You can reapply on the go (or likely at a rest point), but you will loose the clean benefits of allowing the wax to dry fully before use.

What about the ambient temperature when you apply it? What is the minimum that will still allow good flow and penetration?

The head of Silca did mention in a video with Dylan Johnson that with Squirt (and similar wax lubes) it was important that the chain/wax be warmed during application - he said that a hairdryer or a hot day out would be enough but the difference in lubricity/wear was noticeable between cold and warm applications.

Is there any benefit to ensuring the cassette is also coated with the UFO Drip? ie - cycling the chain through the gears whilst applying to ensure the cassette is protected/coated too?

Hi there, there is no need for coating of the cassette, however it is helpful to have the chain moving through the drivetrain to assist in getting proper penetration into the rollers and the links, caused by the movement of the chain articulation.

Hi Pascal, of course. Any bicycle drivetrain that you wish to keep clean & performing at it's best can benefit from UFO Drip.

I ride around my town around 60-75km daily. After my thorough research and readings, this is the best wax based drip lube around and I'm considering getting this lube. My question is, should i clean my chain with Ceramic Speed Drivetrain Cleaner after 300KM before reapplying the fresh coat?

nope definitely not. Once the initial layer gets into the rollers you do not want any degreaser or cleaner to get in there and damage the coating

Can I apply the drip link by link like how I would do a wet lube ? Seems more wasteful to just "sqush" it over 2 chain loops

Hi there, the goal is to ensure adequate wax saturation within the chain rollers and between all links. Our testing showed that this needs 5-8ml to achieve the 300km duration life. If you elect to apply 1 drop per link, you will not get the longevity or efficiency possible with a proper coating. Wax lubricant must be treated differently than oil to achieve the beneficial properties.

Zero Friction cycling recommends that the excess is thoroughly removed post application as otherwise this just attracts more contamination and leads to a gunky mess over time. What do you say in response to this?

Hi Paddy, we greatly respect the work that Zero Friction Cycling does, however our testing for duration and general cleanliness supports that a fully dried application of UFO Drip does not need to be wiped after application.

Hi I just bought a bottle and I am a bit confused, do you apply the wax over that special cog with the chain on only? Or do you need to apply the wax on the whole cassette as well? Thanks!

Hi Victor, you only need to apply UFO Drip directly to the chain. UFO Drip was designed to be applied with the chain on the bike.

Some people recommend applying and backpedaling while cross-chained in order to get better penetration. Your thoughts? I've been applying with chain on middle cog. Should I cross-chain when applying, or if not when applying, when doing the backpedaling after applying? After letting dry, should I clean off the wax from the chainring and pulley wheels?

Hi, is it more efficient to clean first (with white spirit) a new chain to take out the manufacturers grease before applying UFO? thanks

Hi Antoine, you always want to start with a clean chain to get the best coating and performance possible. While you could use white spirit, we suggest our UFO Clean as it is non-toxic & biodegradable. @@DavidSaundersPosts According to Zero Friction, this lube is totally compatible with wax treatments and can be applied over them though, depending on the level of possible contamination, your chain may need a hot water wash and thorough drying first.

Is this thing really that bad at making the chain quiet? After 30 km, I can already hear some noise, and after another 30 it's almost as loud as a completely dry chain. There's no way I'm going to do 300 km, not without earplugs.

I switched from standard dry lube to ufo drip. Cleaned the whole drivetrain thoroughly, applied two coatings of ufo drip, as recommended und let it dry for two days. At my first ride I noticed a strange vibration when getting power into the pedals. Inspecting the chain at home I noticed that the rollers are very sticky and don't roll freely at all. I'm very disappointed with the product so far. It feels really weird to pedal with this vibration and the drivetrain is also a lot louder then with regular drylube. I'm pretty sure my bike and chain are all right, because the bike is brand new. And I'm also pretty sure my cleaning procedure was alright, because I did the same to my mountainbike drivetrain, lubed it with standard drylube and I'm not having this weird vibration on the mtb. I would be very happy if somebody can help me out.

2 coatings only and then leave the casette dry? I did that once and it was the worst riding experience ever. Everybody knows that noise when the chain is too dry and you think you’re pushing your old rusty city bike. The bottle is rotting in my basement now since when I applied more I had the same experience (3 coatings and casette a bit as well). Just buy your normal dry lube and be a happier (&richer) person in my opinion. Happy to receive comments if I’m using UFO drip utterly wrong ofc.

KungFury, was your old chain and/or cassette worn? You must have something wrong since others don't experience this problem.

This video contradicts the instructions for applying the coating on the website. Which way is correct?

Hi Arthur, at 0:58 in the video there is a note on the screen commenting on the additional coating 2X along the inside of the chain just as we communicate on the website. Unfortunately this adjustment was made after the initial video filming as is why the information is applied as a note in the video. If a heavy enough application is applied over the cassette, the secondary application point is not necessary but user feedback indicated updated communication was relevant.

@@wjs1 inside is the top side of the chain when you lube from the bottom. The area which touch the sprocket

No lo recomiendo, tengo dos bicicleteas, a la primera la lave con gasolina para aplicar la cera pero no lubrico, aplique como indica el video y nada. A la segunda solo la lave con desengrasante como regularmente mente lo hago, parecía que si lubrico pero hoy me lleve la sorpresa que nada. No se si hay que hacer baño de cera pero la verdad no lo recomiendo, perdí mi dinero, ahora tengo que comprar otro lubricante. 😢
