I think Cartess has the making of a new channel: Realities of Living in Mexico. I would definitely subscribe to that to hear the stories. I know he's not putting people's business out there to shame them. These are stories we all need to hear. I am now thinking about a contingency plan just in case I need money in the event something outside of my control takes place. Who can I call for assistance because you never know.

If people are coming without money they can learn alot from the locals on how to make money, there are creative ways people survive and make a living, ideas that in the U.S. people don't think of bc those jobs don't exist or is not allowed in the U.S. Here's a few super easy ideas: 1. Bake anything, tape a poster outside selling anything you can cook or imagine: pie, cookies, hamburgers, easy appetizers, etc. Sell them at certain times, ie. 11-2 lunch time, you can even put a small business table outside and place candy, Chip bags, goodies, etc. 2. Deliver drinks, make them at home, then deliver warm every morning, twice a week, 3 Xs a week, etc. Examples in mexico: Atole, Champurrado, etc. Usually older people get it, they love to have it for breakfast with warm bread. Add warm bread to delivery service. 3. Offer tutoring kids in English, ask local private schools if you can list your name or leave your business card with them and the teachers. Also, place an announcement outside your door for tutoring services. 4. Do a mobile car wash, mobile pet groomer, mobile anything. 5. Add the word "African" or "African-American" to any food product you sell and it'll stand out from the rest and more likely it'll grab more attention and sell thru the roof. Promote your product to local food stores, example, cupcakes, or whatever you make, especially to bread stores, organic food stores, restaurants, etc. You'll be surprised at how well they'll be accepted.

Hey Cartess, I think I know what the problem may be, on your channel you come across as a friend, a confidant or family member and that's how people feel who watch or follow you. Since deciding to come to Mérida I've watched and followed others both black and white and it's a different feel on their channel. Your personality and channel make you feel like family or like we are a part of your family or inner circle. You and Nikki make Merida seem like on big happy community of black folks 😆. Maybe it would help if you'd just keep it strictly professional. You even had me feeling like your family was my family 😆. Don't worry, I work and have plenty of reserves to live comfortably in Mexico and sense to go with it. Just a suggestion. I love your channel but needy and manipulative people will mistake what you and your business stands for.

Thank you so much for sharing these things. I realize that I am about nine months late responding. I recently discovered your channel by way of Tyantha’s KZfaq CHANNEL. I cannot imagine, going to a foreign country without the knowledge or the funds to get myself settled. That’s just crazy! Back in 2021, I began the purchase of a pre-sale property in Playa Del Carmen. I would just love to move into it full-time right now, but I realize that it is not wisdom to do that yet. So, I just continue to stay here in New York and I continue to work as much as I can and make sure I stay on top of things here first while I gradually furnish that place and come up with a game plan as far is remote work goes before I try to do anything as far as moving goes. I am able to speak Spanish but I started learning as a kid and as a young adult. I was already evicted from my place here in New York about five and a half years ago (April 2018). I know what it is like to be on the streets and having to crash at different homes every night. I never wanna have to go through that again. Thankfully, I got out of that situation and I’m doing better and I’m staying on top of my bills. I was able to get my old place back, but it was through the aid of social programs here. For me, it just makes more sense for me to make sure I finish securing the property over in Mexico, furnishing it, and making sure I have financial flow coming through before I try to make any type of permanent move. That is why I just visit for a short period of time and then come back. It’s better for me that way. In due time, everything will be in place the way it supposed to because I am planting the seeds now and not rushing the process. After I received the title for my condominium property, I am going to go ahead and apply for the temporary residency. Thank you so much for these videos. I love playing them in the background while I am at home getting work done.

This is great info. Too many KZfaqrs talk about just the positives, but if you don't have money to support yourself and you don't speak the language, it could be a really bad experience. I always tell people that they can have a nice life if they can meet Mexico's requirements for living here, but you need to factor in the budget for annual rent increases, currency fluctuations, inflation, private insurance, if your employer will let you work here, etc. Mexico isn't the cheapest option for people on a tight budget.

Exactly! And that's the VERY reason why I had to remove them and their toxic energy from my life. I speak & keep it moving. I take myself out to dinner & travel solo! At least, I don't have to worry about leaches... anymore! I'm actually at my happiest when I mive about now....! I'm celebrating my 61st birthday on an 8 night 7-day cruise to Alaska in a few months! I LOVE it!!

This was funnny and also just wild to hear how some folks take their foolishness to other countries 😮. I hope you do an update on you and Haley’s experience going carnivore. I struggle with sugar cravings but I keep coming back to it because of the positive impact on my mental health (much more stable moods, clarity, reduced brain fog, etc) in addition to other health benefits. If you get constipated increase your fat intake.

I don't take it as whining at all. It's truth and requires folks to be honest about THEIR own behavior. I, personally, had to be honest about the reality of my preparation for my Mérida move. That it was more than just working some place else. For true ease(for me), I needed to have a nice cushion of finances BEFORE I just showed up, still living paycheck to mouth. I know I don't spend, but I also would rather have cushion of SOME KIND, BEFORE I just show up... after all, my JOB may say, "Nope, no Mexico" or "no electricity for 2 days"... therefore no internet... Gotta be prepared. Am I gonna keep my house? If I'm gonna keep it, who's gonna "watch" it. Utilities costs of an empty house...Etc... Gotta think smart..and real. I went to Mérida a few months ago, for a couple of weeks, to truly experience the moments after excitement (which was 3 days for me) 😂 . I'm over the flash and I enjoy the scene. Hell, I would just sit in the park with the abuelos and watch people lol. And I was happy. Soooo, I'm just saving now, to prep for a longer stay(hopefully 6 months). Folks gotta be real. Gotta.

You're obviously a good person, people take advantage of good people. I love your videos and I love seeing a family who looks like me doing well outside of the US. Please keep up making content, but do not take on other people's problems. People make dumb decisions and that is their problem, not yours. Compassion is good, but sometimes people need to feel the consequences of their actions. "poor planning on your part does not equal an emergency on my part"
