My girlfriend landed a 40lb black drum yesterday with her little, 5'6" ugly stick with the included reel. The fish don't care what kinda rod you're holding, as long as you don't snap anything;)

Hi Dave, my GX2 feels like it broke under the handle sheath due to the fish being caught. Folks tell me they have a warranty and can be returned. That true?

@@CaptDavesSportfishing After watching your old video about the ugly stik lites, I went to a local ACE hardware store last week picked up 2 of them he had like 8 left. Couldn't believe any holy grails were left. Only had 7' medium heavy casting version.

WOW.... no ACE here carries Ugly stiks. Let alone any UGLY LITES! yeah thats what I used to have at one time, two MH casting version. A TAD STIFF. so I eventually sold them, went to intercoastals casting 7' med. ........sold them, bought some more stripers. AND NOW I'M BACK AGAIN!! Sold a bunch of older Ugly stik catfish and spinners. NOWI'M BACK WITH 4 INTERCOASTAL CASTING 7' MED. talk about being a horse trader...thats me alrighty!

Just bought one today. They have been discontinued at my store. They had two left. I asked an associate to check the price for me since it did not have a price tag and asked if it was on clearance (was $39.96, usually things are $xx.99) and he said it hasn't been marked down but has been discontinued so they'll no longer be selling it after they are gone.

My father bought me a ugly stick lite year's ago. I just pulled it out and took the tag off. I never used it so I went looking up information on it and I found these videos. I'm actually scared to use it now that I know they're no longer being made. It's a 6'6" medium combo from Cabelas.

this video is not about the LITE, its about the INTERCOASTAL which was walmarts version ''down-graded''. A true LITE was discontinued before these were Ugly Stik has since made a junk cheap model called the pro lite for sale only in walmart, and I woildn't use yours.

Hey Captain Dave! We...you and I were just talking about the snob guy that has no respect for anybody that uses equipment that fails to surpass his intense scrutiny. I was not aware that fishing rods were a matter of evolutionary fear...remember I was talking about being concerned with putting jackpot fish in my bag. Ok so I had found a pair of Fenwick sticks on sale at Sportsmart or Big 5 and my Lady friend at Seal Beach Sportsfishing convinced me to use the SL20SH and a SL50SH. That lighter combo outfished a boatload of snob rigs on many many outings out to Catalina, San Clemente and up and down the coast from LA to San Diego. This was in the 90s and I only saw one guy using an Ugly Stick at the time. I recall talking to him at the rail and the guy loved his rig. At the end of the day Skipper, we both walked off of that boat with a bag full of fish and no shame whatsoever about evolution. Think I'm gonna pick up one of them Intercostals. Just curious now about which reel you have paired it with...I have a couple ideas but...I'm always open to professional opinions.

These are beautiful rods. Funny how people forget the technology and the techniques came from Asia. I have all 3 classes that walmart carries from the 66 an 7 ft intercoastal an 2 of the original 20lb red with the foam. The intercoastals have penn 4k cv2 and the heavier has 5k Shakespeare ss. Love them for inshore redfish from fla to tx. They just work.

I've ordered 3 off Walmart.com in the last month or so. However,they have the Lite Pro now that look and feel just like the Intercoastal with the new style ugly tuff guides.

Hey Mr. Dave, I love your channel. I live here in Jacksonville as well. I just wanted to let you know, on the northside and westside those Walmart's also carry these rod's in store. I have a few myself. That's all I use are uglystik rods. Anyways hopefully I'll see out on the river one day since I just got a new boat. I've seen youa few times but never got a chance to talk to you. Hopefully me, my dad, and nephew can get a charter with you when it starts cooling off and do some trout fishing. Anyways keep up the awesome content.

That is very true I compared the real seats of my two ugly sticks my first one is an older intercoastal series and It has a Fuji real seat and my newer ugly stick GX2 just has a no name real seat

Capt Dave I really enjoy your channel. I got a "Ugly Stik Tiger Elite Jigging Rod" 6'3" Medium Heavy Moderate USTEJG50100C631 50-100 lbs. 4 - 7 oz. 50-100lb is the "line weight", does this rod have the same "backbone" as a Ugly Stik Bigwater Stand-Up Rod with rollers, in same "line weight" or the Big Water would be stronger? I am looking for an UglyStik with more back bone to bring up stingray and groupers. Stores shelves around here are empty due to Covid, I want to make sure I order the right thing. Thanks Capt Dave!

Capt. Dave..... a follow up to my comment. Now there is a second generation to the Intercoastal.... The butt is shorter and not as thick.... Also. If you want to be more pin point in casting. Cut the clear part off and it stiffens the rod up and makes it more accurate.....

@@CaptDavesSportfishing mmm kinda salty there with the remark "guess you don't know Ugly Stick tradition" seeing it was a "viewer" who gave you a heads up that the Ugly Stick Intercoastal (black/blue) was still being sold by Walmart. How about some more "education" from a viewer. There was also a black/gold Intercoastal Ugly Stick (have one) made.

Currently, here In South Carolina, Wal-Mart still has the Ugly Stik Intercoastal as well as the Ugly Stik Lite on the shelves. I was in my local Wal-Mart yesterday evening looking at these two rods. I did purchase, a few weeks ago, An Ugly Stik Carbon 7ft 3 in Medium Fast 1 piece Spinning rod. I have only had the chance to take it out once so far for a very short try out. but have no issues to speak of. Happy so far with my purchase.

I'm sure you're talkin about the pro lite the real Ugly Stik Lite rods have been out of production for probably 10 years everybody thinks I'm talking about Pro-Lites, I'm not they're cheapy freshwater rods. The ugly stik LITES we're serious saltwater Duty rods

Just picked up an ugly stick lite pro from Walmart. 6.6' SS eyelets medium strength. Mine has the larger eyelets though. Beautiful rod. I'm in Texas and will mainly be doing crappie fishing with it.

There's no difference other than the name. The paint on intercoastal for Florida for marketing. Lite pro is no different. They all have ss eyelits now.

@@CaptDavesSportfishing yeah that's right capt.dave! There's no special resin nor powerful epoxy coated for the new series...unlike d old version! Everything is juz a matte fragile graphite or tricky shining cosmetic!! Honestly, y'all can try to keep it in car boot under high temperature(sunny/summer) for about one year n you'll see the difference...poppppsss...SNAP!!! I'm very satisfied n comfy using my old gold, custom n tiger lite series with rubberised cork handle..more durable n superb!

p.s. if you get them off Walmart.com. they are delivered to your door in less than 5 days. try an 8'6" Intercoastal. You can send a bait, or any spoon over a 1/2oz quite aways........ now after our discussion over the Ugly Stik Intercoastal, you think Walmart will give us a cut? tight lines and KISS (Keep It Simply Salty - fishing and commentary).

long rods ain't my bag, a 7 footer is fine. I knew that, but I just opt for a e-mail and a pick-up....I'll be needing a few 16 oz. PBR's by then. The Wallysworld near me is not far away anyhow. Never look for a ''cut'', just always be glad to help out others in the Fishing Community. And hopefully good 'mojo' will always come your way, is how I look at it anymore. Appreciate the feedback, from the start. I hope we both helped out a fellow fisherman or two. 👌

Liked,sub, and hit the bell. I've exhausted every resource to find another Intercoastal. Never went into walmart to buy any tackle or gear. Shakespeare has got many many gems. If you ever need a babysitter for your intercoastal uglys I'm there for ya. My go to ugly for everthing is my 99 customs. Thanks for the great vids and the hard work capt.

I have 6 and several never been handled, used, or seen daylight. Maybe someday I'll get triple the retail for them. Straight off Walmart racks, before they decided to STAB their customers in the chest with cheap crap that looks like freshwater rod.

@@johnnydelconte7842 the Mega home run was before the Walmart version was the ""Lite,"" Ugly Stik Lite. It was super popular as a inshore rod in jacksonville, everybody had a few of them beyhadh the precursor to the ugly Tuff guides nice stainless steel guides that's how I think they came up with the ugly Tuff guides because of the ones they used on the lite. People who don't know anything about ugly sticks think, when I say the Ugly Stik Lite the immediately go to Walmart and pick up the pro lite, which is really a cheapy little freshwater rod. And of course they're always looking for spinners I never use Spinners ever.

no, hate them no skill needed reels.....and their matching overly obtrusive rods. I'm a anti-spinite.

@@CaptDavesSportfishing don't be a snob lol they have a place...in fresh water lol if I had a nickle for every fish I caught with a spinning reel I could retire...oh wait I am retired. I've caught 15# Steelhead on 6# test line so don't be saying it takes no skill to use spin rigs...I will say that out in the salt I prefer conventional to coffee grinders and that's all I'm gonna say about that.

I'm now ''into'' these more kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9xjprdpl6yrips.html not as stiff. 🌴 and I like the long grip, for LONG casts with lighter weights. It's one of my ''phases'', as a tackle junkie.
