In this video we paint the interion of our Revell UH-1D Huey Gunship model kit in 1/32 Scale. We will be using acrylic and enamel paints and simulating wear and tear in areas that would see the most use.
This kit was first released in 1967 with new tooling in 1969. This version is the 2015 release with new decals added.
The UH-1 Iroquois was first ordered by the US Military in 1952 and saw extensive use in Vietnam. It enjoyed a very long service in many militaries around the world and some are still in use today.
I hope you enjoy this video.

Hi Floki, thanks for the very kind compliment. As for the craft paints, they are an inexpensive approach that, in my opinion, works just as well as those expensive model paints. Stay safe and model on my friend! Johnny

I am really enjoying this build!! You've inspired me to build a Huei, always wanted one, now i know which one to grab! All your extra scratch builded parts and work on the interior payed off now that you've painted and weathered it. I like the wear on the seats and find it just enough for a well used chopper. Thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work my friend!

Awesome! Thank you George! I will caution you about this kit though, it has a lot of fit issues my friend. Here in the States it's very reasonable in price but be sure to see the entire series before deciding on this one, lol. Thanks so much for supporting the channel, stay safe and model on! Johnny

Hi Johnny, I'm glad you left out the figures. I feel they would detract from the beauty of the helicopter, and obscure the interior work. I also really like the interior colors you chose. They look realistic and harmonized. The added details show the finesse and skill that you are putting into this build. I'm enjoying this series very much. You don't see many helicopter builds, at least not at this level. When I suggested the build I never saw these skills coming. I am delighted!! This inspires me to try mine again. Thanks my friend

Hi Mikey V, it makes me very happy that you have gotten a little inspiration out of this build so far. If that's the case, this build is already a success. I have to admit that this old kit has inspired me to try this type of scratch building that has been in the back of my mind for some time. As long as we take our time and sit and look at the overall kit long enough, it sort of lets us know that there are elements missing. Then it's up to us to fill in the missing parts. That is if we choose to accept the challenge too. Stay safe and model on my friend. Johnny

As far as the seat cushions go, you might want to reverse the color scheme you went with... The edges might be worn a bit, but where the body touches the seat cushion sweat would have darkened the cushions, not lightened them. Other than that, I'm really enjoying your build... especially the seating. IIRC the original release of this kit had both the guns and the seating included. More modern releases of this kit don't have the seats included.

Here's a little tip Uncle hillbilly you should lightly sand the metal parts as well as put a metal primer on it. If you forget about the metal primer or don't have metal primer the lightly sanding will help the paint stick to the metal it'll give it a better surface to attach to
@hillbillymodeling
@hillbillymodeling Жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, yes you're right about the light sanding. Those small scratches from light sanding gives extra purchase for the paint to stick. I didn't do that because I knew I would be using the primer and these parts won't be handled at all once the interior is installed and the model is finished. As always, thanks for the great tips and comments my friend. Lots of modelers read the comments and will pick up the info, which I'm sure will come in handy for them as well as me. Stay safe and model on. Johnny
