+AudiS4MadMan As an example; when on a dual carriageway, if the right hand lane slows to a crawl and the left hand lane is free, a car in the left hand lane would have to slow to match the speed of the traffic in the right hand lane? It is for that reason and others that there is no such offence as undertaking. The offence, if one was deemed to have been committed, would be driving without due care and attention; but only if a danger was posed by passing a vehicle on the left such as in the video mentioned in the first comment. The Highway Code does not mention undertaking; all occasions when you would pass a slower vehicle are deemed an overtake, regardless of which side you pass someone... Rule 163 is an informative one! Rule 165 is the only occasion in the overtaking section of the HC where specific offences can be committed, everywhere else it’s the catch all “due care and attention” one that will get you; assuming something else doesn’t come into the equation of course.

What you're seeing as him drifting right is him steering in order to move left, which happens directly afterwards. Still crap positioning. But there was no other way for him to move left other than powerslide and counter steer. Not a realistic option.

If only the driver understood feline tongue then this incident wouldn't even have come close to happening. Everyone knows cat stands for Collision Avoidance Thing. For the same reason motorbikes who are filtering (which is what the bike was doing) get upset when people knock them off or cut them off - the bike was maybe too fast but was legally filtering past stationary traffic, the black car decided he couldn't be bothered to wait so pulled left without indicating or checking their mirrors and hit the bike - he knew he was in the wrong hence why he drove off

Psyonic Wombat Undertaking is not illegal but that's irrelevant anyway as the cyclist was filtering (same as motorbikes do) which is legal Read specifically rules 88, 160 and 211

Gobtik Filtering is allowed, but should you undertake a turning vehicle, or overtake a turning vehicle? Was the car indicating properly? If so then the cyclist is at fault.

Psyonic Wombat I was pointing out you were wrong on both undertaking (there is no such offence) and filtering. Passing say a left turning vehicle on the left is stupid (especially if you don't pay attention to indicators) same as overtaking a vehicle turning right. However in this video the BMW was attempting to cut around a vehicle waiting behind another wait to turn instead of waiting in the queue and watching it on full and 0.25 speed I can't see any attempt to indicate to show he was moving around - the fact he zoomed off instead of stopping after the collision is a) an offence and b) an indication he knew he was wrong as his car will likely have been scratched up as a result of the collision and most car drivers would immediately get out

I don't understand how some of these accidents even happened! You can see cars pulled out well ahead of time, yet it's like people only see 'my line' and no intrusions in that line at all and hit them, when they had plenty of time to have stopped and avoided an accident...

+OhNoNotMyPenis Agreed. The Bike was not taking the safe line through the bend and was approaching it far too quickly; he was overrunning the limit point of vision. As the road was taking a curve to the right on approach to a crest, the view was too limited to be safely taking the shorter line through, he should have backed off sooner and be tucked into the left.

+johnmcquay82 the only way for that truck to go tightly round that corner will be to be at a snails pace, which is unsafe. Typical yobo bikers.

+UnholyGaming2012 Maybe my comment wasn't clear. I was referring to the Biker taking the wrong line; the truck had to cross the white line because of his width. As the bike had limited visibility he should have been on the left of the lane, not trying to straight-line the bend.

+johnmcquay82 yes, the IAM recommends staying on the left for right hand bends in order to see further ahead. Bike rider only really has himself to blame

+David Thornton The guy was not really hogging the lane as he was moving faster than the left lane, even if he was that's no reason to brake check someone at put peoples life's at risk.

But cammer's miles away from the next car up ahead. Overtake, and move back into the slow lane until you have to overtake again. It's not that difficult a concept. If someone wants to speed past you, that's their prerogative. Presumably, he was preventing the car behind from legally getting past And I know. That guy undertaking and brake checking was an idiot too.

+David Thornton you may be right, that hadn't crossed my mind. If that's true camera car is definitely no angel. But as you say Audi man is definitely a tosser - nothing detracts from the stupidity of not only break testing but coming to a full stop in the outside lane! In terms of insurance no doubt camera car will be in the right however.
