Open tickets are very common, they cost more than a normal ticket, but allow you to contact the airline and agree a flight date when you are ready to travel.

People who defend this, remember you yourself are paying for these people wether they get caught or not, they most likely dont pay taxes. The people that hire them dont treat them properly and pay them almost nothing. Its slower but trying to get in legally is better in the end financially and safety wise. For some the risk pays off but in the end, others pay

Deaf doesn't mean blind or dumb. Reading lips is a common enough. Whether he actually is deaf or he's just using it to bidé time to find a way out would be the question. The moment he deals with an interpreter for sign language would likely bear that out. I'm not 100% on how common sign language is abroad or how much they may differ.
