Yes sadly this is true. My farmer husband can't believe half of what he reads in the Farmers (transition) Weekly.

Our farms produce over half of the food, so there is plenty of room for improvement, if the politicians allow it.

@macsmith6216 No, I did not! I fell out with the NFU at cereals pre Brexit. They had a big marquee up and various speakers telling everyone to vote remain. I asked why they are using membership money to give a political message. I was told that it wasn't membership money, so I then asked who was sponsoring them? Things got very uncomfortable from that moment. Especially when I didn't get an answer and then asked. "Somebody here must know where the money has come from, or are you choosing not to tell everyone." The NFU is not a political party. I wasn't popular, to say the least! I farm in Leicestershire and Staffordshire.

@macsmith6216 My wife is an Italian farmers' daughter. I discovered that the eu wasn't playing fairly nearly 25 years ago. Their milk prices were nearly double ours with no quoters in place, as were cereal prices and zero set-aside. I have also tried to buy British products whilst we were there. British beef, etc. I have not been successful to this day! I was on the phone at least once a month to the NFU. I got the impression that they weren't even interested. So, with that, I withdrew from being a member. I have been a Brexiteer forever, I feel. All of our mainstream parties have allowed this to happen. The eu has played us like a fiddle as a result, by taking full advantage.
