I have added small stinger to 12cm shadteez and inporoved hook up. Always watch your videos when they pop up.

Hi mate, nice video! It is hard to see from the tape what kind of retrieve you are using, are you letting the lure hit the bottom and then just reeling and stopping, reeling and stopping? I ask as I have been out a few times on my local canal this year and not even had a sniff. I have been alternating between soft plastics and crank baits. I find when I do use soft plastics on the bottom I just catch weed literally every single cast, it turns a relaxing hobby into a very frustrating day. Any tips?

Hi Craig, I try to vary it. With the shads on the jig head I’m bouncing them up and down. I’ll let them hit the bottom and then give them a quick couple of turns and drop them again. I do try to cast at good hiding places, that technique can draw them out. With something like the savage gear 4D perch I just do a slow mid-water retrieve. That seems to get hit anywhere 🙂. I’d say snags is a tricky one, touch wood, there are not too many in my local area. Weedless could be an option, but that can impact hook up rate.

Yeh, the weather has made it tough here. I’ve dropped to smaller lures, 9-12cm. That seems to be a bit more successful

Great video. Could I ask the name of the green frog lure you are using ? Thanks
@reellures27704 ай бұрын
Hi there, it’s made by Kalins, US brand. I think it’s called a Scrub lure, 3”.

Are you use spinning rod for baicasting reel?
@reellures27705 ай бұрын
Hi, yes I am. It works to a point, you do get a lot more line twist. I’m in the process of looking for a light weight baitcaster to replace it.

i dont even own a lure less than 14cm haku i think... favourit canal lure got to be miuras mouse tho
@reellures27705 ай бұрын
Yeh, this time of year a bigger lure does help. Slow and steady gets the hits, on my local canals I mix it up just to keep trying different things.

@@reellures2770 never a bad thing. my new local canal they only use small lures, first time i went i had a 7 ish lb on miuras mouse 😂 secand time i had 2 smaller on rapala haku. jerkbait is good this time of year tho

Yeh, it does work. It’s always worth trying a different approach

I find those size lures to be pretty redundant now. No need to go that small. Even the smallest 1lb pike will take a 14cm shad rigged with a stinger which results in almost 100% hook up rate.

The 12 cm perch got plenty of attention, I always hold out a bit of hope for a big perch on the 9cm lures 😁
