Hi Asif🖐Definitely shouldn't remove those triangular glue blocks as they give a larger glueing area between the tread and the riser, and there is more chance of squeeking if only the top edge of the riser is glued to the underside of the tread👍You may find though, that when the plasterboard is skimmed it might still hold the joint tight together🤞Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del

Hi Kevin🖐Even in the situation you describe, I still always start from the top and work my way down👍If this set of stairs was a top winder set, (the exact opposite of what I fitted), I would make up the all the winders, top tread and risers into the newel and the short stringer section and prop it in place. I would then slide the main flight into/onto it. The top flying section of wall string would slide over the wall end of the kite winder treads, and the outside string would slide into the mortice in the newel. The trickiest part of this is trying to fix the corner where the short string and the flying part of the main flight string meet, and I do this by either using a timber block fixed into each from the stair side but UNDER the treads, or trying to get a fixing in from the back/outside of the strings, which can be difficult if the stair well is already built🤞I'm really hoping I will get a top winder, or even a double winder set to do in the future so I can show how I do it😎Thanks for your comment bud

Alright del, I make CNC stairs and fit them also, as a rule we never screw the nosing tread as the hook on the Newell posts are doing their job when hooked over the trimmer, as long as your wall string is fixed then life's good. Fantastic work mate, love the cut roofs you do. 👍

Hi Chippy🖐I'm really looking to keep my newels as plumb as possible, as they affect things like the pitch of the stairs and the level of the treads. Again, if the treads aren't level across their length, this will affect how plumb the newels are. I tend to set my stairs based on the rise, rather than levelling out on the treads, however, and answering your question, like any timber joinery item, there will be tolerances they will be built within, and if these tolerances are to be accommodated, then allowances will need to be made. I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist if tread/newel was a couple of mm out in its length, as long as the job looked right on the whole. The thing you need to be careful with when it comes to out of plumb newels, that they can end up looking bad if they catch your eye out of wind with something else like door openings, spindles or other newels👍

If for example it was in reverse and the winder would be at the top would you still build it insitu? Or would you assemble the stairs as one unit and lift?. I’ve seen it done both ways but would like to hear the rationale behind building it insitu? Thanks!

@Chippy97 Hi bud🖐If the winder set was at the top I would only assemble the the top tread and riser onto the newel as well as the kite winders onto the back string. I would then notch the newel and fit this into position roughly level/plumb and prop. I would then offer up the main flight and 'slide' it over the last kite on the wall string side and into the mortice on the newel on the outside string side. I'd then stick the bottom newel and handrail on to finish.👍Hope that makes sense🤩Cheers Del

@@chippy977 It's partly due to the weight of the completed staircase and how unwealdy it would be to try and get it into position over the trimmer, and also, like you mention, you can keep a better eye on plumbness and level doing it in smaller stages👊
