He was the singer at my brother in law’s cousin’s wedding a couple of years ago! Amazing to see how far he’s come - next up performing at the Queen’s Jubilee concert in a couple of weeks!

He mentioned in an interview that he's so happy that some couples can look back at their wedding day photos and videos, and now can say they were joined by someone who was on eurovision, he is so fucking humble and so happy for what he can do for other people, it didn't come across like 'oh they were with someone famous like me', but more like 'I'm so glad my fortunate situation could make happy people even more happy' the dude is a gem

Probably the best Eurovision entry the UK has ever had, truly amazing! Vocally the best performance of the night! It's true, the more you hear this song, the more it get's into your head. Sam Ryder is a wonderful ambassador for the UK also, talented, charming and engaging, one nice guy!

When I saw the UK entry I immediately thought "oh my god it's the TikTok dude!", 'cause I realized I first discovered him on this app with a stunning cover of Adele.... Well I don't think he' ll be the EU winner but he definitely won the Interbet hearts

I'm so thrilled to finally, finally, have a great UK entry. One that actually reflects the amazing pop history of the nation. I love that parts of that history are present here in glimmers - Bowie and Elton thematically, Oasis/Beatles very clearly towards the end. Also hi, very happy to have found your channel! I have some music schooling (classical piano, singing, theory) and it's lovely to come across someone with your perspective who analyses stuff. 😊

Totally agree. It is so good to have a decent entry. Our recent entries have been a bit embarassing and other countries have rightly been thinking the UK has not been treating the competition with respect. But there's been a reset in 2022 and Sam Ryder is a great vocalist and musician. Good on him for taking a risk in stepping up and restoring our national pride.

The UK used to do well up until about 20 years ago but then things went south for us. Not sure which is the better version. He is big on Tik Tok and instagram but this was the first I'd heard of him. I have seen some videos of him with clips of him singing in his kitchen and he sounds just like that. And yes that was live I believe on the One Show.

@@EmoBearRights When compared to 'The Wheels on the Bus'! 🤣 "Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba Thte-fanny-er Da da da da da da da da Thte-fanny-er" I thought that they were "singing" about a fat fanny! ... followed by the "singer" playing a wind instrument at Grade I level, an attempt at "dancing" in a costume that looked like a mop roller in a car wash, a short fat bloke thinking he looked cool in a hat that went out in the 1990s performing moves that went out with the ark, and backed by shots of an ugly old woman's wrinkly, watery eyes. How lovely! 🤮

just finished watching like half your uploads (excluding some song that I've heard multiple times and know I don't like :P) and I really love the way you analyze stuff and don't come off as an ass even when what you're saying isn't entirely positive (so many people have an issue where they either love something or it's absolute trash...) commenting here on the latest vid but it's more of an entire channel commt :)

Awww thank you! That means a lot. Many people who do this kinda thing don’t acknowledge all the hard work that goes into artists and musicians, and it’s just so inappropriate to call them out on how they perform and their skills when the person doing so is not an expert! I have taken a small break but will be back soon. I enjoy your videos, they let me understand so much about music and make me enjoy even more the songs. Thank you so much!! I wish you could analyse "Senza fiato" (Breathless) By Negramaro ft. Dolores O'Riordan. It is an italian song, Negramaro is really appreciated by international singers. The song is intense (as well as the official video), there's a lot to analyse I think. I also recommend you to listen to Carla's Dreams (Pana la sange, te Rog, Aripile...). It is a Moldavian band, the soloist's voice is beautiful

It's awesome! The live acoustic version of "Tiny Riot" is the best of Sam Ryder IMO. It's the song and version I recommend to everyone.

If you get carried away by the song and just want to hear it through, that is a valid critical reaction. I don't think you should second-guess your audience's reasons for coming to your channel. I can tell the difference between a reactor who has something to say, and one who is just milking an opportunity to get their face on camera, and I choose who to watch accordingly. So, trust your own integrity, as well as your subscribers. Getting tied in a knot about it doesn't make a better video. In my humble opinion :)

I don't know what went wrong with the UK this year. A good looking, talented, singer and a catchy song? Did they not realize it was supposed to be a UK Eurovision entry? I mean there is not even a dodgy rap section, for goodness; sake! Very disappointing for those of us hoping for another nul points spectacular. Hopefully, things will be back to normal next year.

Nothing went wrong, Sam was clearly the winner, but when it came to the juries, they gave Ukraine the sympathy vote so it won. Sam was robbed.

Afaik eurovision is actually live. We can argue that you can always add some effects to the mic even in a live feed, however I don't think they add anything out of the norm, basically your reverb and the like, nothing that masks the singing. You can confirm this by watching the semi-finals and finals performances for all the diferent artists. Not to be mean to anyone, just as an example, this year's France finals performance ,one of the singers is out of tune, if you go and check the semi-finals version he did better there. The UK representative is just a brilliant singer.

Love Sam, so happy for him. Don't think this is live though. Like you I was hoping for a little more meat in the bridge, more of that rocky chest voice perhaps. In general though, yeah I was very pleasantly surprised that one of the best singers I've heard has made it all the way from their bedroom to a live audience of 300 million people 🙌

This is live, in the official video his vocals are even better and that may amount to a problem because if he isn't in top form for the final, the emotion might be ruined. That said, the song is nice, but a bit British-pop bland, only supported by his amazing vocals. (My failsafe trick is to lower every virtuoso song an octave: if it still sounds amazing it's a good song, if it doesn't, it's just the vocals) Sam appears to be a genuinely nice person, he is also handsome in a viking-next-door kind of way and I believe most British Eurovision fans couldn't believe their ears when they first listened to him. He is also a Tik-Tok star, with millions of followers who will probably vote for him.

@@Keenangoal You're one miserable bastard man, the song is absolutely a bit bland. Nothing ground breaking is happening in it, it isn't out there. That doesn't take away from the guys positivity, vocal performance and stage presence. He deserved to do as well as he did, but the song remains generic (guitar bit helped tho)

I don't hate the song, and I even like his voice in some parts, but falsetto will never appeal to me, so not my cup of tea. I'm sure he'll get a lot more votes than poor James last year though! Also haven't yet met anyone here in the UK who knew him before this Eurovision thing, so I wouldn't say he's super famous here, but maybe his fans are just quite a lot younger than most people I interact with. I know he has a big following on TikTok, so some of them must be from here 😄

Yeh I remember you saying hi voices and falsetto are not your favourite, and to be honest, I’m the same - but he’s so vocally competent. I think we’re all just shocked to see that people finally like a UK entry 😆

@@TheMuserResolute Haha, yeah, UK has had some bad years for sure! Not nearly as bad as Finland though if you compare the placement history, although comparison isn't completely fair when the UK automatically gets to the final. Last year wasn't bad for Finland though, and of course people still remember Lordi from 2006, but mostly growing up in Finland taught me to concentrate on other countries more and try to forget we're even in it 🤣

I have mixed feeling towards this entry. Sam's vocals are insane and that is the strong part. The song itself it's quite weak imho, very basic pop melody, poor bridge, little to none variations. It doesn't deserve the win imho, but a good placement for sure, left side of the leaderboard, maybe top ten. Wish him luck, he deserve a good result and also UK should be given a token of appreciation for the huge improvement.

It's much better in the live version he did recently, his guitar bit gives it a different look so I'd say this is a solid high placer if he performs as he did - hopefully we put a bit more effort into the stage and pyros though
