The British Liberal party (The Liberal democrats) are orange. Until the first world war our elections were always a two horse race between the conservatives and liberals, but the working classes got sick of being used as cannon fodder and started voting for the labour party instead so now the top two parties are labour and the Tories. The economic agenda of the democrats is hardly even seen as left wing over here, and the republicans are much more like our hard right parties like Reform UK. Third parties are also much more important here. In the devolved parliaments of Scotland and Northern Ireland the SNP and Sinn Fein respectively were the dominant parties at their last elections so they are each important at a national level. Minor parties are especially important in local council elections, where even very small parties can get a role in local government.

Was it always that way in the US? I’ve a vague (possibly wrong) recollection of a Reagan election where they used blue for Republican on the TV.
