Graduating with DISTINCTION in MSc Robotic in 2023, I still haven't had job yet. Without my wife, we would rather be going through the PSW route which isn't cheap as well. It is important to get the international work experience after graduating otherwise it makes no sense to pay huge tuition fee here. I advise fellow brilliant colleagues to look elsewhere after these changes 🎓💼🤷‍♂️

Who would have thought that after fighting for independence, we voluntarily chose again to be in bondage. It’s so shameful discussing ways to get into uk. Who runs away from freedom back into slavery and bondage ???To be honest Nigeria was better under British rule and I do not blame any Nigerian for emigrating abroad with the attending humiliation & frustration that awaits. But we must ask ourselves a very poignant question how we can get out of this mess??? Revolution …that will flush the corrupt politicians down the toilet hole, reset our values and start all over again seems to be one credible remedy.

What the UK is saying is very simple. Come alone as a student, finish your studies and if you want to remain in the UK, get a job and then bring your dependents as a worker. This is the usual way that people migrate until Japaa started. Of course, you can be visiting your family at home during school or work holidays if you are missing them. But if that is not possible, you can stay back in your country and do online or distance learning degree programmes with any of the UK universities.

Yeah, they might not be able to pay outright, but their government actually made a provision for them. To make life easier for their citizens. Well said, COVID and Brexit had a negative impact on UK economy 3 years ago, the country needed revenue to boost it coffers by giving lucrative visa study options to international students. In 2022, the UK generated over £26 billion pounds from students. So what people fail to realise the UK is the 6th richest country on the planet with or without international students life goes on accordingly. When I arrived into the Uk in 2013 there was no post work study visa then universities survived and operating as normal, Like you said the door is now shut they have hit their target and there is a probability the graduate route would be stopped as well same back then in 2012 when it was stopped by Theresa May.

You might not agree with it, but you know people are using it for immigration purposes. When they finish their education, why dont they go back to their home country to use their experience they gained in the uk instead of changing from one tier to the other. Common, the country has had enough, and the infrastructures can not accommodate the people any longer.

Tochi, as always you provide interesting content with passion and well done to you. In summary, the UK government is trying to reduce the number of international students from certain countries that remain after their studies. It is no secret that international students from certain countries rarely stay after their studies, but students from some countries often do. Whether they contribute to the countries coffers (sufficiently) is besides the point, that is for HM Treasury to ascertain etc. The root cause of the above is obvious. Students from countries with striving or stable economy rarely stay and the opposite is true for students from less stable economies. Before concluding, I leave you with MAC research comment below. “There are notable differences between nationalities regarding their status five years after arriving in the UK on a study visa. For example, Indian students are more than five times as likely as Chinese students to have moved onto a work visa, while Chinese students are almost twice as likely as Indian ones to still have a study visa (Figure 10). Along with Indians, Nigerian and Pakistani students are also particularly likely to work in the UK after graduation.” - MAC

Nigerians are making so much noise about these things all because of the failure of leadership in Nigeria. In the early to mid 2000s so many Nigerians who travelled abroad for study literally ran back to add value back home, strengthening local workforce, setting up start-ups and boosting the economy overall. I have many friends and colleagues who did this. All this rant/noise is unnecessary and we should channel that energy to demanding accountability and good governance from our government/leadership. UK is a sovereign country and has the right to make laws that take into account the interest of their countrymen. No one is forcing Nigerias to spend "all this money" to come. Let us demand that our leadership, APC especially, cos this Japa syndrome started under their watch. Let UK be!

I wonder why the noise. Its their country, and its their duty to put their citizens first. Most of those who sold everything to come study with a battalion were not doing badly in Nigeria. It is the same thing we accuse politicians of doing that we citizens do in guise. If they change their laws, come back to your country, afterall in the SOPs, everybody wrote that they would come back after studies. The huge influx of people has greatly impacted job availability and their infrastructure, and their citizens are not all happy. We should build our country and hold our governments accountable and stop winning about what another country does. They didnt uproot us to come. We applied for Visa and even went on fasting, we begged to come and they granted. If they say they no do again nko?

The issue with UK saying this is like giving student hook and telling them not to fish. How will I pay thousand of ponds to study and still not have the opportunity to wait back and gain? I suspect the government wanted to scrap post-study work visa for international students. The school will cry out more because they will loose heavily even with scholarships. It can't continue like this because the plight to process a uk student visa is meant for the rich and never the poor. In conclusion, the government will soon announce that no post study work visa for certain courses or all courses.

If you plan to come to the Uk for postgraduate studies from either of these countries, you should think deeply about it. But do they really think a lot of international graduates enjoy working as carers???people just take up care jobs because the white collar jobs mostly do not offer visa sponsorships, only very few do.

Meanwhile these companies are recruiting staffs with no less than 5 years experience. International students without dependents are not complaining. Jokes apart, how can you focus on your studies if you arrive to study a one-year course with a family of 4 or 6? They don't attend lectures regularly, they don't do self-reading and end up doing job-paid unskilled job, and making more babies. The UK loses out in the end, so that is why they are changing their laws targeting those who have dependents

@@diplomatdiplomat2800Your response is biased in my opinion. You keep arguing that people don't get jobs because they did not study. I beg to disagree. One key challenge is the time available on the visa at hand. Not all professional job providers have the license to sponsor visas. If one has only 2 months after studying or even less than a year, they won't be offered the jobs. Besides it is more economical for companies to take someone who has met the minimum requirements and has no need for sponsorship than a highly qualified person needing sponsorship. The companies don't have to pay any fees to the home office to attract such talents. You can volunteer from now till kingdom come, it does not guarantee employment.

People settled for low pay Job because there system made it that way, we are trained to do any Job as long as we can meet our family needs, and been stranded in the UK. No university is producing students who use any route. University go through there own due diligence to recruit students, students got here and realised there where openings for work visa where they bring people from outside the country neglecting the students who paid to come and study here. Emphatically they should put themselves in this students shoe will they see an opportunity to grow will they take or let go. If they have finished or did not finish and moved out of the country , they can still return back and pay the same amount they paid to switch to have that same work visa. Me I do not know know who there advisors are. Those that got work visa got with a cheaper amount lower that the school fee the students paid. Literally this same students can be in the Uk directly via work visa and still go ahead and study afterwards. So who is benefiting most, is it the students or the government.
