Almost 40 as well. Doing cbt this month. Then just going straight for full license. Had driving license since before 2001 and have A cat on my licence. But that seems to be just for tricycles

Hi, this is an excellent video. Well explained. As a 20 year old, soon turning 21. Should I wait till I can do a full A license or just take the earlier steps? Thanksb

If you really wamt a bike with decent power do it. A2 bikes are still quite fast, and you can get them restricted so when you pass the full test you can just get it taken off. Same bike, more power. If you can wait until 24 it'll save you paying for 2 lots of training/ tests although conversion from A2 to full A is reduced.

Hi folks, passed my test A licence 1954. I have moved a couple of times. had my address changed and my Licence came back fully in tacked. so guess I was lucky. M/C news covered this Licence problem back in the day. I do not know how many were affected.

I would be gutted to have mine removed, particularly with the cost of doing a full licence these days! Luckily we can now save documents electronically so hopefully this shouldn't happen anymore. DVLA need to sort this for those that have been affected.

Most definitely on a full bike license, and I believe you could if you just had a car license. But the question remains, why would you want to! 😉 🤘😎

Now days can you go straight to Full A or do you still need to be restricted to A2 for 2 years if you in your 30’s?

Full A, the A2 is generally a route for younger riders to gain experience and get a full licence quicker.

I'm not familiar with international licences, but on a UK licence, given your age, you would be able to do Direct Access to full licence.

I've just passed my test for my car licence and I'm dying to get a bike but I'm not quite sure how I'm not sure if I have to re apply for another provisional licence for the bikes or if I can start learning with my pink licence. Might sound a bit dumb but I genuinely have no clue how to go about this and any help would be appreciated. Thank you :)

Also do you need to do a theory test for each category am a1 a2 a?

I think your full car licence should act as a provisional licence for motorcycles. You'll still need to do a CBT for 125cc. Theory test needed for full licence categories A1, A2 and full A. You'll need to do another theory/ hazard awareness test for motorcycling as some of the questions are more specific for bikes. Speak to a motorcycle training provider if still not clear, they'll set you straight. Good luck with the training. 🤘😎

One motorcycling theory/ hazard awareness should cover all of these categories. You would need to pass your test within 2 years of completing the theory. You don't need to do one if you intend to ride 125cc on CBT, only if you do full licence test for each category.

You'll be fine though, mostly normal questions with some motorcycle stuff. Hazard awareness part is also ok, but best to practice a bit before hand as its easy to click too early.

Iam in my 60s...Want to take my CBT and do Mod 1 and 2, so i can ride A2 Bikes...Is that possible ??...How long does A2 last ??

You'd be better off doing the DAS (A licence), then you can ride any bike and not be restricted to engine size. A2 is aimed at younger riders 19-24 to allow them to ride larger but restricted power machines before moving on to full power (A licence). Both A2 and DAS last as long as you have a valid licence.

i have a question i turn 17 in 2 months and im doing my cbt when i turn 17 can i take a test on a auto and still use a manual or do you have to take your test on a manual

In the UK you can do CBT on an auto then ride a manual.

For A2 you need to be 19, have CBT or have held A1 licence for 2 years, then you will need to pass theory test, mod 1 and mod 2 tests. Good luck, best thing you'll ever do 🤘😎

Not sure what size bike you want to ride? It won't be full A unless you've done all the tests. It should only entitle you to 50cc without L plates if you do a cbt within 2 years I believe, if you've only passed your car driving licence. For a bike you'd still need theory test, cbt, mod 1 and mod 2 for full licence on any category except moped 50cc.

Do places do a2 mod 1 and 2 without training?

You'll still need to do theory test and CBT, but they would include CBT in the training if you haven't done one prior. If you feel that you can do the tests without training you can do it on your own bike assuming correct size/ power for test but you'd be responsible for the insurance cover which might be pricey. Best option always is to get proper training, then you don't need to worry about the insurance side of things.

People who was riding a 250 with L plates before the new law came out should still have been given the right to carry on riding a 250,the motorcycle licence is a big rip off,once you pass the cbt you should not have to take it again the same with the awareness test,a car driver takes just 2 tests and less than £100 and a motorcyclist has to pay nearly a £900 and take 4 or 5 tests.its just a money making rip off you only need 2 tests.

I get what you're saying about the 250cc old school class. I only paid around £600 for DAS. Even though I'd been driving for many years I still had to do CBT, Theory, Mod 1 and Mod 2. I feel like it was worth it though that knowledge and training has been invaluable. Remember, bikes are like sports cars, if not a little faster and you have no protection at all if you crash. But the training and expense is worth it IMO, now I'm free to ride whatever size bike I like, happy days! 🤘😎
