It sounds good to me. I am definitely looking to purchase a pineapple soprano this month Feb 2023. I cannot decide if I should spend a little more to get a little better quality. This $59 is so tempting

There are a lot of different brands, many that are at similar price points. It might be worth contacting a ukulele specialist to see what they have available and what they would recommend (most specialists are honest but will also sell a person an instrument if that is what they are asking for).

I would love a pineapple someday. A narrow nut is good for my fingers so I can reach the G string. On the other hand, my fingers are constantly touching the string below, so maybe narrow is not good. If I do decide to get a pineapple, I will definitely go for a different brand with more value. Thanks for your review!

@@UkeStuff - Thanks for the tip! All these brands, models, materials, and measurements are overwhelming for beginners. This will be my third attempt to find one that fits.

Good morning, Chris - Thank you for another excellent review. Interesting comment about kerfling. Didn't 1000s of ukes come out of Chicago/NY in the 50s with no kerfling? Some of those are now pricey collector's items. I have had Makala, Kala, Lanikai, Luna, Makai, Aersi and a couple of others I cannot remember pineapple ukes in my possession in the last two years I bought/sold or repaired/set up with new tuners/strings/etc., for friends. Th only ones that impressed me were the Aersi, Luna, and Makai. My friend's Luna sounds excellent. The only two pineapples I kept are the Aiersi soprano and Makai MP71 solid spruce soprano. With Martin M600 strings and string height at 0.5/2.5 mm at 1st and 12th frets, they have great volume, sustain, and intonation. I love 'em. Rick

There have been many ukuleles without kerfing, but what I’m saying is that these Kala models (including the Makala) used to have it and they have cheapened the build as a result. I’ll ha e to try that Makai sometime. I have a new-to-me Clara that I would call a pineapple, and it is hands down the best ukulele I have ever played. Not cheap, but worth every cent!

Tuners are a major failing of Malala ukes. As for neck shape and width you might want to try Ulumac ukuleles. 1.5” 30mm string spacing. . Some Kmise too. Better packaged as well as you say, another issue with Kalas.
