- Ukraine is suffering from a growing military manpower crisis in addition to a lack of arms and ammunition;
- Trained military manpower takes up to half a year to produce, new brigade-sized units can take up to 30 months to stand up;
- Ukraine and its Western sponsors simply cannot produce trained military manpower faster than Russia is removing it from the battlefield;
- This leaves the collective West with the choice of either accepting it has lost its proxy war with Russia, or attempting to intervene more directly;

I bet many of the 500,000 soldiers they say they want to muster will exist on payrolls only, with their salaries channeling into corrupt officials' accounts. I bet the same is true in the other two or three armies Ukraine has had to muster since 2022. Those are probably just two reasons our own government refuses to audit these expenditures.

@@jameschalkwig787 better train? Why you think so? Then why Russians often won on international competitions for military? Try to watch interview of UA commander, he said NATO text books are useless and far behind of ancient soviets. He said UA now forced to return back to Soviet system. Explanation is simple - US just have no real experience. Also, let’s compare education level. On one side mainly people with university degree, even ordinary soldiers and on another side we see people who even can’t find own country on map. Almost any Russian officer/soldier with easy can read any NATO text book. How many US officers/soldiers can read Russian? Also, did you tried to analyze summer counter-offensive? It fully developed by US, not UA. Actually it is pretty funny, in most cases they exactly repeat what did Germans 80 years ago. Russians laugh a lot, literally took old maps and demonstrated lines of offensive - exactly like Germans, even repeat old and well known mistakes, nothing new. It means US study only one side (German) and never even tried to analyzed Soviet side. Total fail. Because lack of education.

Thanks Brian! For those of us who had parents or grandparents in the ground forces in WWII, it's sometimes surprising how, even at the peak of hostilities in all theaters, they spent an entire year in training before being deployed to combat, then often were re-assigned or rapidly promoted, or even pulled back to train again in a different program. Then the millions and millions of them were de-mobbed after VJ Day, with the potential for mas social disruption. The US has tried to solve the problems of militarization since then, but it's been an overall failure. The truth is that the US has always been protected in its isolation, the population has always been overwhelmingly anti-war, and most of our overseas actions have been aggressions against defenseless countries for the purpose of exploitation. Even in WWII, we lost fewer soldiers worldwide than Russian civilians killed in the siege of Leningrad alone. (New Zealanders also suffered a lot of casualities -- per capita.) War is an incalculably bad thing for everyone involved. It literally must be limited to self-defense only, as in the UN Charter. Americans learned the hard way from their experience of the Civil War, but so many generations later can be convinced, by fear-mongering and false patriotism, that war is still as necessary as it was in WWII. No wonder our mass media are so tightly controlled. Thank you for bringing the basic realities of war to the general public!

The French magazine Marianne got access to "several confidential defense reports" from the French army on the situation in Ukraine. "A Ukrainian military victory now seems impossible." The reports highlight "the inadequacy of the training of Ukrainian soldiers and officers": due to a lack of officers and a significant number of veterans, these "Year II soldiers" from Ukraine - often trained for "no more than three weeks" - were launched into an assault on a Russian fortification line that proved impregnable. Somehow people who had never heard of the Battle of Kursk convinced themselves that Russian soldiers in defensive positions would run away as soon as they would hear a tank rumbling towards them. They of course did not do so. These Russian troops are well managed and cared for: The reports also highlight that contrary to Ukraine "the Russians have managed their reserve troops well, to ensure operational endurance." According to this document, Moscow reinforces its units before they are completely worn out, mixes recruits with experienced troops, ensures regular rest periods in the rear... and "always had a coherent reserve force to manage unforeseen events." This is far from the widespread idea in the West of a Russian army sending its troops to the slaughter without counting... The Ukrainians on the other side are done with: "To date, the Ukrainian general staff does not have a critical mass of land forces capable of inter-arms maneuver at the corps level capable of challenging their Russian counterparts to break through its defensive line," concludes this confidential defense report, according to which "the gravest error of analysis and judgment would be to continue to seek exclusively military solutions to stop the hostilities". A French officer summarizes: "It is clear, given the forces present, that Ukraine cannot win this war militarily." The fall of Avdeevka has shown that the Ukrainian military, even on the defensive, will inevitably lose the fight: "The Ukrainian armed forces have tactically shown that they do not possess the human and material capabilities [...] to hold a sector of the front that is subjected to the assailant's effort," continues the document. "The Ukrainian failure in Avdeevka shows that, despite the emergency deployment of an 'elite' brigade - the 3rd Azov Air Assault Brigade -, Kiev is not capable of locally restoring a sector of the front that collapses," alerts this last report. In consequence the Russian forces will simply move on: What the Russians will do with this tactical success remains to be seen. Will they continue in the current mode of "nibbling and slowly shaking" the entire front line, or will they seek to "break through in depth"? "The terrain behind Avdeevka allows it," signals this recent document, also warning that Western sources tend to "underestimate" the Russians, themselves adept at the practice of "Maskirovka," "appearing weak when strong." According to this analysis, after two years of war, Russian forces have thus shown their ability to "develop operational endurance" that allows them to wage "a slow and long-intensity war based on the continuous attrition of the Ukrainian army." There is nothing really new in the above for people who have followed the facts on the ground.

For those who haven’t seen it yet, here is an extended report on the unprecedented feat: But for those who imagine some Hollywood-style escapade, I urge you to read the grisly details of the unromanticized version, and learn what the heroes truly sacrificed for this heroic feat: _Since the president mentioned the pipe, then we can..._ _The pipe is one of the key successful elements of the capture of Avdiivka. Its diameter is 1.4 m. Its length is 3.7 km. Imagine that in a half-bent state in armor with a load you need to go this way and be ready to perform further tasks..._ _Along the way, in some places there is waist-deep water, and in some places there is not enough oxygen. Equipment is scattered all over. Helmets, body armor... People simply shed excess weight to get there._ _Along the way, you may encounter naked soldiers who have gone crazy... Wounded, dead, and it is now almost impossible to get them out, since the entire route in full equipment takes 12 hours..._ _The audibility is such that you can be heard perfectly at 300 meters if you speak in a normal voice. And when you arrive into the tube, you simply lose consciousness and come to your senses after 3 hours... Communication with the outside world by telephone on a wire (tapik) which stands at 1.5, 2.6, 3.7 km. The wire periodically breaks and here the signalmen act as a separate heroic core, wandering back and forth in search of a break._ _Now you've reached the point. You need to warm up somehow, sleep, eat something, go to the toilet... You also need to dig a hole outwards. Only God knows where you will get out. And if the enemy notices the hole, it will be difficult to get out of the situation..._ _Next is the accumulation and forays into the assault. The holes are spotted sooner or later, copters fly there, gas is released, artillery works. We rotated groups every 2-3 days. Everyone who returned had pneumonia, and the crowd was slowly ending..._ _This is the feat that is hidden behind the “pipe” operation and ‘funny’ pictures of Russian ninja turtles in the Avdeevka storm drain._ simplicius76.substack.com/p/avdeevka-denouement-russian-momentum

They could always ask all the Americans who have ever added the Ukrainian flag emoji to their Facebook, Twitter, or TikTok profiles. I am sure they would be more than happy to help make up the numbers.

I can't help but feel like 20 years from now, Americans will say the same damn thing about this war that they currently say about the Iraq War, Afghanistan, and Vietnam. When this war escalated back in 2020, I expected Americans to use a little more hesitancy when before jumping on the bandwagon of "Let's stop the evil Vladolf Putler from eating the glorious Ukrainian Free Democracy". It honestly disappointed me how little Americans have actually learned and taken to heart from our previous wars. Even if one thinks Putin or the Russian Poltical sphere has ulterior motives for the 2020 escalation (as I do), I honestly thought people would put a little more thought into the origin of this conflict (2014 or 1990 whichever one you want to pick) as well as even giving a little look into the Ukranian far-right issue. At that point it becomes clear the conflict didn't fall out of the sky.

Assuming aid is released right now, it's important to consider that weapon factories will receive the money at a later stage, plan for production expansion, procure new production machines, prepare tooling, start hiring more skilled manpower, set up raw material supply chains, expand last-mile delivery networks, and start production of munitions and equipment. However, this process takes months if not years, and by that time, the war may already be over. Soldiers are human beings, they have a mind of their own. If they know they have to fight an adversary that has already ramped up production a while back, and now has a formidable supply chain at their disposal. Those soldiers do not want to die for nothing, and thus the nation as a whole will find it hard to raise new brigades.
