Ukraine's military is repositioning some troops in the frontline town of Avdiivka to what it calls 'more advantageous positions.' The eastern town has seen months of heavy fighting. Kyiv says it is redeploying some forces because it is difficult to supply Avdiivka and get people out. Russia is trying to seize the town, which is seen as the key to the Donbas region.

They'll be lucky to withdraw. Russia operationally encircle the final supply road 2 days ago, Russia issued an ultimatum to withdraw, Ukraine turned it down and sent in a counter attack which was hit by fab bombs and thermobaric missiles on the outskirts of Avdiivka and they also hit the staging area of the reinforcements with Iskander cluster missiles. Now theres a week of rain forecasted and the fields are all muddy, there is no way out anymore.

At the end of last year total active personnel were estimated to be around 200,000, with an additional 300,000 drafted as reserves for future enlistment. While the situation in Avdiivka is dire, the US is to blame for allowing it to happen. Their inaction in providing munitions promised to Kyiv last year, has led to over three months of rationing their artillery units; Kyiv were making it clear they had a shortage back in December.

the South part of Avdeevka has been encircled (about 3 500 troops), there is also a North part (Koksokhim plant) with 4 500 troops located inside this heavy fortified base, it is not encircled and won't be for some time at least. So we shall here about Avdeevka more for a couple of months at least.

These reports are usually 2 days behind the actual situation, the situation right now is that Russia have operationally encircled Avdiivka and the only way out is a muddy field. Ukraine simply cannot withdraw over muddy fields which the Russians have direct fire and drone coverage.

I used to watch both historylegends and denys davydov. Although history seems to be more pro-russian and I sometimes disagree with his takes, I must admit that his predictions and analyses are impressive and improving. Have you actually watched the video? They say plain and openly that its a retreat less than a minute into it. The title is quoting an official statement from Ukraine, which is why it is put in quotation marks in the title, but the journalists first question is literally "Is that just a fancy way to describe a retreat?" to which the guest replies "Yes". DW you need to get your terminology right. A "withdrawal" implies order, method and planning. What we see in Avdiivka is chaos, disorder, desertion and surrender. This is not a "withdrawal" - it is a full blown retreat.

Truth of the matter is Russian have comprehensively have defeated Ukraine Army, surrounded from all side dead in the water. With this defeat Ukraine is done and dusted they have lost the will to fight, young men ran away to other countries afraid of being arrested and sent to front line to die Period. Army training centers are hit multiple time every day by glide booms. You just can’t pickup young men from street and ship him to front line with a gun to fight a well oiled Russian Army.

They were forced to withdraw because the supply roads were cut and forward positions were vulnerable to their enemy. They don't have any choice but to position most of their units into the center of avdiivka for better coordination and maybe for preparation for full withdrawal.
