A head-on tank to tank kill is exceptional, tanks are usually best armored for sustaining head-on shots (sloped and thickest armor in the front). Certainly, the AFU tank had a hell of an armor-piercing round to fire to get this result. And/or the T72/T80 on the receiving end is a piece of sheet...

Modern armour penetration figures are usually cited at 1000m and this is a good deal closer than that. Think of the cruiser guns at Guadalcanal -- they weren't supposed to be able to penetrate battleship armour at the kind of ranges battleships were intended to fight (something like 12,000 yards and over) but when the actual ranges in play were just hundreds or even dozens or metres, those cruiser rounds got through all but the thickest parts of the battleships' belt armour.

I'm not sure that was a tank round that took out the Russian tank. I played the video at half speed and timed from the Ukrainian tank firing to the Russian tank exploding at about 4 seconds. I can't find a muzzle velocity for the main gun, but let's assume it's 1000 m/sec, which would mean 4 km flight time if 4 seconds elapsed. So maybe the first round missed and a second round was fired and hit? Anyone know the reload time for a T-64 main gun??? Oops, maybe I'm all wrong as the video is zoomed in and panned in post production so the 4 seconds is just the panning time and not real time. Oh well, the Russian tank was obliterated which is the important thing.
