The VARAMIS project is looking to convert a zero emission electric passenger train into a viable night time freight service. The project is aimed at shifting more freight services on to zero emission trains, away from road haulage.
This project is part of the First of a Kind (FOAK) rial programme funded by the Department for Transport and is intended to accelerate innovation in the UK rail sector and to enable new technology to be readily and efficiently integrated in to the rail system.

Innovate UK have recently published our new Transport Vision 2050, which sets out a vision for the UK’s transport system in the future. It covers all forms of transport and is based on discussions with over 200 stakeholders - lnkd.in/eeqsVjJF .
