Chris - Thank you for the comparison. Nice to see Kala is providing ukes with lower action than 1.0mm/3.00mm at the 1st and 12th frets as they used to. I like starting with 0.6/2.5 on ukes new to me and then check intonation up through the 12th fret. Aside from playability, isn't proper intonation the main reason for adjusting string heights? Rick

I think you’re 100% correct. Intonation is a little trickier, as there can be other issues (incorrect placement of frets, or a player pulling strings too far while fretting, which can be made worse by tall frets). For me, playability is the #1 issue, especially for those wanting to play barre chords.

Interesting comparison. I had two Flight TUS35 ukuleles one in yellow and one in pink. Despite the fact that being of largely plastic construction including the bridge there was a distinct difference in their sound. No idea how that is possible but others noted it too. With wooden models with wood bridges and more sensitivity to environmental conditions I would think that would be more pronounced, especially with solid wood instruments. Perhaps it boils down to quality control.

I would actually guess it might be the batch of laminate itself. While a laminate, laminate is made of strips of wood. It should all be linden wood, but it is possible that a different wood filled in the middle of the soundboard (e.g. spruce) or a different quality of linden in the middle of the soundboard, resulting in a different tone.
