I use the Panasonic Gh6 and The Olympus 150-400mm f4.5 with 2x Teleconverter to capture wildlife at 6000mm equivalent!
I talk about how I get the equivalent of filming wildlife at 6000mm with a HD camera using this combination and test it out on birds and dragonflies at RSPB Rainham Marshes, and discuss if it is a viable set up to use for wildlife filmmaking

Probably the first premiere I've watched. Great stuff dude. Got me thinking - and that's the point I guess! Si.

My first though was: I want this lens! Then I checked the price £6800. Do you have any spare shotgun for bank robbery?🤯

The 100-400 II is about 1.500 £. This is 25% of the 150 to 400mm. Granted, it does not have an built in Teleconverter and it may not be quite as good, but I doubt, that it is 4 x better. And ther is always Topaz for the final enhancement if you are not 100% happy with the sharpness.

Wow, incredible shots of the heron catching dragonflies. Not sure why but video footage looks to have better DOF and sharpness compared to still photography. Are you getting good results with the 2x Teleconverter and sharp still images?

It's definitely better for video. I guess with moving images the heat haze/lower sharpness with the 2x tele. I did a video about "photographing wildlife at 2000mm" with the 150-400 and 2x tele and i got some shots, but heat haze was a real issue as it was a hot day. But I've got another video on the way all about using the set up in better conditions and (spoiler alert) it can take some good shots.

Now the question is what's the f-stop?

Woops i didn't mention that did I! Its f11, so not great for photos in poor light, but less important when you only need 50th second for 24fps video, and beneficial on a bright sunny day! ISO is at 200-400mm even on 120fps shots with 250th sec shutter speed. Ill make sure to mention the aperture in the next video! Thanks

Loved the video! I own the Panasonic 200mm f/2.8, the 100-400, and the 50-200mm along with the 1.4x and 2.0 Panasonic teleconverters. There's actually one last piece of the puzzle here. You can take your final HD footage render and run it through Topaz Video AI, using the Proteus model. It's not a typical sharpen, it significantly improves the image to get you a 4K result from the 1080p. From that point you have respectable 4K at 6,000mm or (to push it), 1080p again 12,000mm. I'd just recommend upscaling the 1080p at 6,000 to 4K with Topaz Video AI. So yes that's it. The final level. I have played with Topaz significantly on the 2.6x 1:1 sensor crop 1080p on the GH5 II, it really does make a big difference. Enjoy :)

ooo thats a good point. I actually did that with the eagle video from Pulborough I posted at the start of the year, but the 4k footage was filmed at 1800mm with the 300mm + 2x tele with pixel to pixel mode. Took about 10 hours to render the 4k to 8k but it came out nicely. Something to try in the follow up video! Thanks :)

@@ukwildlifeOf course, it'll be much faster to render from FHD / 1080p to 4K and only render the portions of the clips you like by trimming in Topaz Video AI. Again, excellent video. Didn't know if you knew about Topaz Video AI, glad you do! :)

@@ukwildlifeAlso, Topaz is more effective with a lower resolution source. 1080p to 4K is usually better than 4K to 8K in terms of quality :)

Please if you time explain the pixel to pixel mode on the Panasonic or link to a video. Is there something similar on the OM1?
@ukwildlife
@ukwildlife 6 ай бұрын
Im not aware of it on the OM-1, although the quality is pretty good, the features and implementation of video on Oly/OM bodies is a bit lacking compared to Panasonic. On the Panasonic in the video menu is the pixel to pixel mode.The 25MP sensor give a full resolution of 5.8K which is 5760 x 4320 and when you switch on pixel to pixel mode it used just the middle 3840x2160 pixels, which is cropping down to 1.5times

No, the OM1 does nor have an equivalent feature. I own both cameras.
