The "Berlin food stand sausage" is supposed to be a "Currywurst", I fear. And no, that's not how they usually look. A Currywurst is a german Bratwurst cut into slices and soaked in a slightly spicy ketchup mixed with curry powder. It should have way, way more sauce.
@RSMaxxy

Indeed, the amount of sauce on that sausage was pitiful. It should be drowning in the stuff, lol!

16:13 It's a Japanese approach to the original Berlin curry sausage (Berliner Currywurst) which is often served without the colon. Double the portion size and add five times of the sauce and you're good to go.

And a nice triangle of that rather rough bread to soak up the rest of the sauce! Where I was stationed in Germany, the local Schnelle kiosks always put a slice of that bread on the side.

I love your channel. As a former Seaman i really appreciate your outstanding mix of well placed humor and your attention to detail especial on your Ship cruises. By the way: I used to live in Berlin. The Germans name of the "Berlin Food Stand Sausage" is "Currywurst mit Pommes". Pommes means fried potato sticks. Your dish looks very familiar to ours but the sausage is more fried over here. Kudos to the Chef anyway! Hey, thank you for taking the burden of travelling for us and please always have a "Gute Reise!"

In the United States we have a passanger train system called Amtrak that operates slow-speed (80MPH and slower) trains that go across the country. I used to have a lot of fun trying to make 7-day trips across several routes. Budget land cruises for my college days. You've made a similar budget cruise using the ferry system there. Bravo.

Two things: As a native Chicagoan, that's not Chicago-style pizza. I don't know what it is, but I know what it's not. Two, that bath towel looks ridiculously small. That towel washes first, then,after you clean it in the washing station, you bring it into the bath with you to use as a "shyness" towel. Then you come out of the bath, wash again, ring the heck out of the towel when needed. I'm a large, hairy Italian/American, and I can do it. Japanese aren't afraid of water, it's plentiful there. I've been to Japan scores of times on business. My favorite way to relax is in a natural mountainside onsen (hot spring). The stink of sulphur is easily gotten over and the minerals seeping into your pours is quite healthy.

German street food, the sauce ingredients seem to be a source of some discussion. Very few people make currywurst at home, they prefer to buy it ready made locally. Found this in a blog article about the origin of the meal which may or may not be 100% true but it's a good story to share with you all anyway: "Legend has it that creator of currywurst was the savvy housewife, Herta Heuwer, from the Charlottenburg district of Berlin. In 1949, she apparently traded spirits for ketchup (some sources say Worcestershire sauce) and curry powder with British soldiers stationed there after the war. I’m guessing that she experimented with these ingredients and other spices until she found something she liked. The currywurst sauce is much more than just ketchup and curry powder. Either way, the resulting sauce was poured over grilled pork sausages. Ta-da! Currywurst was born." Edited to add that my mother was German but I grew up in England eating lots of German dishes at home.

Yes, the Berlin Curry is called Currywurst and is almost exclusive to the city of Berlin. It was a British soldier, after the second world War who introduced the special Curry sauce to the German Bratwurst sausage and the Pom Frits - French Fries to make this unique dish. Before that, it was just a Bratwurst dish. Love that sizzling hot dish at the end. The egg, I thought, is unique. Great video blog.

I love ferry travel around Japan. I bike tour around and find ferries are the easiest way to get around. If you take a train, I have to take my bike apart and put in a bag. With a ferry, I just bring it on board. And, riding from a coastal port town into inland is very beautiful too. I also enjoy the food on the ferries too: very tasty.

Oh my the so called "Berlin stand sausage" is supposed to be a "Currywurst" (wurst= sausage) but on yourd is a poor sauce and not enough on it. It should be a tangy, sweet, slightly spicy thick ketchup-based (with lots more ingredients) sauce with curry powder and totally covered. The sausage quality is also important. Regards from Berlin 🥰👍

I had the same thought! It's trying to be currywurst, but failing. 🤣

I am doing a project on ferries. Transportation where I live sucks, so thank you for this.

We in Germany call the "Berlin Food Stand Sausage" Currywurst :D And yes we do eat it like that, although we use way more sauce (ketchup with currypowder, sometimes spicy, sometimes mild). The sausage and the fries are basically swimming in it tbh. It's close enough if we think about how the food is basically translated to suit the japanese taste.
