This is the first time I've used a dado stack on my table saw and OH MY have I been missing out! Dado stacks are AMAZING woodworking tools! I'll share with you what I've learned my first time using the dado stack. I want to use the dado stack to cut dados, half laps, box joints, rabbets and tenons using my table saw. I would recommend you getting a dado stack for your table saw as well!

You're 💯 right about that. I have yet to use pocket hole jig in the last 7 years since I got back into woodworking again finally after my youth. I don't hate then or think they aren't useful to people. I just personally have preferred more traditional joinery.

Could you please make a detailed video on how to make a frame start to finish with the plywood inlay using a dado blade please! I make farmhouse signs and have been very interested in this process as it would speed up my production time. But there isn't many videos on it using a dado blade. I currently either nail frame directly into or onto the plywood or I router my frames so the plywood sits inside the frame and the router takes a good bit of time because 2 sides aren't routered completely through so you don't see the cut when looking at the sides of the frame.... I hope I'm making sense haha. I love how you go into such detail and really break down the processes step by step in your videos and make it so much easier to understand and follow along. It would be EXTREMELY appreciated! Thank you so much!

Watched and liked this video when it came out. Watched it this morning because: last week I picked up a Delta T2 ("stole" it for $341at Lowe's sale), ordered some inserts (due in today), and yesterday morning my brother-in-law gifted me a Diablo dado stack! He's been a woodworker for years longer than me and I get his "hand me downs" when he upgrades! :)

I bought that same dado set this week, first dado set I’ve ever had at 62yo! Following the directions I stacked the recommended pieces on the arbor and proceeded to cut a 1/2” dado. The result was that the 1/2” oak I was experimenting with wouldn’t quite fit in the groove! My interests include a home machine shop in which I use a digital caliper a lot, but never in woodworking! But I used it to measure the oak and the groove, the oak turning out .012” wider than the groove. Looking through the included shims I was happy to find a .012” shim (they’re all stamped in inch and metric if you look close!), and installed it between the outside blade and the first chipper. Suffice it to say that it fit like a glove!

You have a flush trim router. Why not grab a piece of scrap, rough out the table saw insert with your jig saw, set it on top of your existing insert and run around it with the flush trim bit? Add 4 height adjustment screws on the bottom to flush it to the table top. I love making box joints and I have really screwed up a lot of good wood to prove it. lol

I just found your channel last night. I am a rank amateur, and I've been eyeballing some Dado stacks on Amazon and at Lowe's because I've seen other videos about how great they are. I liked your video best because you didn't make me feel like an idiot for not knowing things. I laughed out loud when you went to black and white and mentioned the forbidden "PH" words.....(pocket holes). I'm waiting for my pocket hole jig to arrive early next week for my very first project. I also bought myself a beautiful commercial Delta table saw, a Dewalt 12-in 15 Amps Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Corded Miter Saw, a new grinder, a new drill press, various clamps, and a bunch of hardware. I have a 2,000 sq. ft. garage, so space isn't an issue, and now I want to learn using the best tools I can afford. After watching your video, I'm going to go ahead and put in an order for a Dado stack and give it a go. Experimenting is good but current lumber prices demand that I hone my skills quickly and not waste anything. You have inspired me by showing the simplicity and versatility of the Dado method of joinery and I think I'm hooked. Now I'll need to justify to my wife why I spent a bunch more money on "toys." LOL Thanks again! I definitely am subscribing and am in the process of perusing your other videos even as I type. Have an awesome weekend and thanks again!!

I've had that same dado set for over 15 years and have been actively using it for a month. That's because the thought of using it scared the heck out of me. The big concern was getting a zero-clearance insert (ZCI) for my table saw. There weren't any. After watching a video or two on the internet, I started making my own. I used 1/4" Baltic Birch and batched out around 10 of them (1/4" because that was the depth of my ZCI). A game changer!. I was finally was able to build a bench for my deck that used A LOT OF DADOS . That had a 10 degree bevels on everything. The design said it was a 'simple weekend project'. They lied and a lot of 2" x 6"s died. Their sacrifice was not in vain and I can now use a a dado set reasonably well.

I purchased a wobble dado blade several years ago, and used it many times. I ran across a stack dado on eBay a while back and bought it for next to nothing. The seller said he only used it once, and it looked like it. The stack takes a little longer to set up, but the results are so much better! I've never made box joints, but after watching this, I think I'll give it a try!

I'm super glad you made this video. I think it will be very helpful to see someone using the dado blades who is new to them and new to the different kind of cuts and joints they can create . Sometimes people who have been doing something for years get in a flow and it doesn't occur to them to show newbies the "obvious" things. Oh, Steve over at Woodworking for Mere Mortals recently posted a tutorial for how to make a zero clearance insert for the table saw. 😁

Amazon lost the first set I ordered. I ordered another set, This one is taking a week and a half to get here! Hope it comes this time! By the way, I also bought a WEN scroll saw. It is top rated and only cost $127. One HS technology teacher buys 8 every couple of years. They get very heavy use. Lots of times I need to cut curves. There are also countless projects you can make for the holidays using a scroll saw. They are perfect for seniors, kids, and moms who want to play with wood. Think signs, ornaments, wall art, curved table legs. and much more.

I bought the 6" version of this Freud set, mainly because I did not trust the larger 8" on a less than 3 HP table saw when hogging out wide cuts and because I'm only going to use it for shallower cuts (1/4-3/4" max. ever). Get yourself a fractional inch dial caliper as well... no battery and they read down to 1/64s (even 1/128s if you read between the lines), on top of 1/100s. Super handy.

Maybe help teach locals how to do basic wood working. I'd love to donate money so you can take tools to them and show them how to use them if they don't already know how. I love your channel.

Need you a mortiser now to open that potential up even farther. With a little prep, patience, and attention to detail you'll be making heirloom furniture in no time. I know your workshops pretty dry,but to anyone who works out of a basement shop,or area that's higher humidity, if your shims in your new dado set are steel. Chances are they are bare steel and subject to rust easily. I left mine in their plastic holder for about 6 months and when I went to use them they were stuck together with rust.

I have that same saw and Delta makes a dado insert. It was about $49 at Lowes. By the way I have that same Dado Stack also.

You might want to look into getting a dado gauge to help you get that perfect fit every time.

LOVE my dado stack. I bought an 8” one (same as yours) and a 6” dial-a-width. Unfortunately the dial-a-width doesn’t fit my table saw. Should’ve checked first. Weirdly dado stacks are illegal in Europe which makes my Dad back in Scotland very jealous! Thanks again Matt.

What saw do you have? I had to swap the plates on the exterior blades around. It is designed to work with either arbor side. So if the adjustments wheel is on the inside based on blade direction undo the screws on the back side on both outer blades and swap the Center hubs around.

@@zachsheets8315 I have the Wormdrive Skilsaw job site saw. I’ll give what you said a go. Freud emailed me and told me it wouldn’t work with my saw but I’m always down for experimenting 🙃

Dado stacks have their place. Always always use the proper insert when using stacks. You will find that they make a lot of saw dust so dust collection is important also. I run a 10” Delta Unisaw strictly with a dado stack only. Have a big 12” table saw for everything else. Recently got into the CNC game and now run cabinet parts and cutting dados’s and rabbits, pockets are extremely accurate. Things go together very easy and stay together with properly sized dados. Most plywoods have different thickness’s so measuring is important.I use mostly Russian Birch and it can vary .020” from lot to lot.

Do you still prefer the Delta miter saw to Dewalt? I noticed both of them sitting there in this video.
