I'm a tad late to this video but I maintain my bearings almost exactly like you do. I have a set of Bones Swiss about as old as yours and a set of Super Swiss 6 about half that old that are both still going strong! Thanks for the content! You and I are close to the same age so this vintage of nostalgia is right in my wheelhouse!

If I ever invested in some higher end berings, I would definitely maintain them. Until then, I'll probably just keep "treating myself" with a new set of Reds when needed. It also gives me a reason to hit up my local from time to time. Loved the appearances from Bounty Girl, Rad, and Mr Wizard. Come for the skate content and stay for the nastolgia.

Heck yeah dude 👍 I have bones reds for 4yrs and I use dry lube spray and that’s it. I also use it to clean and lube my gun lol.

It's funny but my 3yr old Swiss are still good I have raws now and I take care of them with dry lubricant, I also had spitfire and independent, I found that regular maintenance and proper lubrication makes them last was longer until they actually break

6:08 - The moment he realized his room wasn't as ventilated as it should have been.... 😂 As a BMX rider/skater from the 80s I can honestly say I've never used that amount of lube on my bearings.... More like a teaspoon per bearing. 😅😂

@@TheNostalgicNeighborhood - Yeah I know.... Learned the hard way that there are 2 ways to pack a bearing. One was machine equipment style and the other is precision machine parts style.... I did it old school style before learning that if it's not encased then all that grease does is hold dirt in the bearings. Probably went through 3 or 4 sets before realizing that.... 😅 😂😂

Thanks Kevin. That’s a good question about bearings in the headset and bottom bracket. I would think that as long as there is a way to remove the shields, you could. Something to consider next time I’m working on my bike. Happy New Year to you too 👍

For cheap bearings, it's not worth the hassle. High end bearings are made to be serviced. Search YT for 'service Chris King headset bearings' for some cool videos!

Great vid. I use Bronson raws and they seem to be self cleaning. Never had an issue with em.

I roll with bones super reds bearings with the bottle and use the alcohol. No sense in buying another set of bearings if you can keep them by just simply doing regular maintenance. Save the money for band aids. 😂
