This video is great in general, however, I do find interesting that she compares messenger bags and slingbags/crossbody bags with a small backpack, because, the use case, at least in my opinion, is completely different. Usually a backpack will indeed allow you to carry all the stuff you might want or need, however, pulling stuff out of there is inconvenient, so, if for example you are carrying your phone or your wallet in there and you need it, you can't get it immediately, having said that, messenger bags and slingbags can allow you to carry your stuff with the convenience of being able to easily pull your stuff out when needed without much hassle, basically, the idea is comparable to a purse for men.

I think it's so better when we don't get hurt by different opinions, specially when it's about style, which is something that has so much room for personal opinions, cultural differences from place to place, different life style, sometimes something that doesn't fit so well in the majority of people could fit well to some few people. Any video that tried to cover all of this possibilities would last forever, so I understand that most of them will cover a general idea, considering the places where most of the audience comes from, considering what looks good to most of the people, and so on. That's why I usually watch a lot of channels when it comes to style, different opinions from people that understand about it helps me to develop my own way to think about it and make my own decisions. I love different opinions. (Although in this case, in this video, I agree 100%.. :D )

I use my Buffalo Jackson leather messenger bag and love it. I have been using it for work for almost 2 years now. I use for travel as well as my personal bag on short business trips (3-4 days). No complaints and I get compliments regularly.

Great video. I use my large sized clutch alot since I got them few months ago. My 10 inch tab, notebook+pen, power bank + cable, phone, keys and other loose items is packed nicely. Sort of a tradeoff of not having to hang a large men's bag yet have all stuff hand carried.

Glad I came across this video. I had a cheaper messenger bag when I was younger and could never explain why I didn’t use it. You hit it spot on.. not as utilitarian compared to a backpack and not dress enough for business. Definitely will look for a briefcase now. I think sometimes men have the tendency to think the less formal option is more sensible, but not in this situation.

Very interesting on your thoughts about messenger bags. I wear more dress casual wardrobe where I feel my trakke messenger bag fits perfectly. It’s not leather shiny for that more “office” feel, the dry waxed brings formality down. But then again its not like wearing a backpack which just has that super casual feel in my opinion. I guess a more “city lux” fabric would bring it up formal wise, but I just hate bags with sheen shine look to them. I feel like that small compact Matte-ish looking messenger bag fits that middle between “I don’t work in an office, and I didnt just get out of high school or going on a hike” vibe.

to much leather and vinyl looking stuff for me, I am more of a filson bag type guy. I get tons of complements with these rugged looking bags that scream quality. but like you said in the beginning, different bags for different tastes. nice video.

I love a backpack’s utility, but am moving away from using them because it exacerbates my back’s sweating. For this reason, I tend to use messengers and shoulder bags 90% of the time. Good point with briefcases though…will look into that.

Messenger Bags Rule! I have a chocolate brown full grain leather messenger bag. The Full grain leather is thick enough to maintain its shape and can stand on its own even when empty.

I separate my shaving kitt in leather pouch attached to my leather dopp kitt (custom made), non leather backpack with shoes compartment for gym and swimming, non leather messenger bag for casual traveling with family ( with luggages off course), leather briefcases for business/office, non leather sling/cross bag for casual day (wallet, car key, etc), passport bag , phone bag 😆 , non leather bag for grocery (no plastic bag policy).... And finaly 2021 i bought the bag that i usually dont like... For jogging and walking purposes is... Waistbag! 😅....oh and for why people tend to use messenger, sling/cross bag than backpacks because many suicides bomber use backpacks so it will get high alert for some people especially building/shopping mall security 😊

I bought a beautiful black leather toiletry bag from etsy was a little pricey but its top class and will last forever. It also came with a leather seperate shaving accessorry storage where you can take it out of the bag as its not attached. So good came from India hand made.

In general guy don't use "bags" except in special cases because we haven't been purse trained. It is easy for us to set it down and forget it. Typically our solution is to only carry what we need, which fits in our pockets. When I buy things there is something important to me that most people don't care about - that the product was made to last. Ms. Weston pointed that out when she said to get a good zipper and quality materials. My Dopp kit that is made of leather, has a decent zipper, and is over forty years old. If you get a good one, that is the only Dopp kit you might ever buy. When I got out of college my dad gave me a briefcase. After a year it broke and I got another. After a year or two that one broke so I got another. Before that third briefcase broke I was walking past the luggage store in the mall and saw a Zero Halliburton briefcase in the window. It was quite heavy and expensive but it was clearly tough and could handle the things I carried. So I bought it and it still works great today 38 years later. The quality problem is even worse today. When it comes to "bags" most are made so cheaply they easily break and barely last. You really have to be choosy and pay extra if you don't want junk.

I carry a ton of stuff to work and I paid a few hundred for my weekender. I'm using it as an everyday bag.

Toiletry Bags: are not needed at home or on a trip probably not. Electric razor and electric tooth brush both using the same charger. Both have their own case. The electric toothbrush includes a USB port to charge the mobile phone. Saddly Braun has their own charger and not a USB one. For a trip an eco-friendly toothbrush and a battery razor take up less room and are cheap enough to replace. Lush soaps - particularly the shampoo bar lasts months and there is a small metal container for it. It works well for washing and even doing laundry. My only liquid when travelling were tooth paste in a 75 ml tube and a hand sanitizer. Backpacks / Daily carry bag: Use a convertible. Choice of backpack straps, shoulder bag or carry handle. As a brief case it needs all the straps hidden and be smart. Some get close but others look like a professional brief case and work perfectly even if carrying a large amount of technical gear - laptop, tablet, camera, lenses, tripod etc. Daily carry convertible with anti-thief slash proof material. all zips to my back and locks on each make for a very secure carry anywhere. Packable bags - whether a duffle, tote or backpack are useful for the weekly shopping and ideal when carrying excessive stuff home on a work day. In keeping with the leather ultra-smart bags in the video I would include Temporary Forever 48 hour switch in consideration. Expensive, feature packed. I personally go for a lighter weight, not leather, even if less elegant. It only has to work for you what ever you pick to use.

This video is old but I will expose my personal options that I own. -toilittery: 2 in my case, a hanging one and a top opening one, it depends on were you are going. - backpacks: 3 in my case, same peak as in the video but 20l, black leather “little” backpack for business (I have a little piquadro) meetings and a bigger full capacity light for “other things” I have a samsonite and a Bagsmart for this. - duffle: in my case they go anywhere and are trashed hard, a leather one will be destroyed, I’m on a clean Herschel duffle, the separate compartment for shes to me is why I bought (and dirt cheap price for the quality) - then of course you need gym bag, hikking bag and a 3 sizes rollers (lately I added a full carry on backpack for some travels).

In my county, children carry backpack to and from school. Therefore, when adult carry backpack it is perceived as being childish/uncool. So, in my case crossbody bag is just right. Great video!

A lot of good stuff here but also a ton as per usual that’s not disabled man friendly. I used to use messenger bags but gave up on them due to that shoulder strain mentioned. The briefcase or anything that’s carried in hand doesn’t work well for a crutch user. Same thing with weekenders, duffles, totes and briefcases. A good old backpack actually works best. For the assortment of things I need to regularly carry.

Any thoughts on satchels / men's bags? I dress somewhat business/smart casual. So always a shirt, sometimes a more sporty/informal jacket with chinos. And I want to be able to carry a powerbank, wallet and other essentials. Full-on briefcase is too big and formal for going around, so what am I left with? Smaller bags sometimes look girly and hard to match. Also, what to take to a night club with you? Pocket stuffing sucks!

I want to try a sling bag. I always use a backpack due to the fact that I have to use a mobility cane at all times. I don't want to not have a free hand to push walk buttons or open doors. If a backpack isn't big enough, I use a rolling bag. At least that way I don't have to lean over and find the handle if I have to use my hand.

I wonder, for my wardrobe is heavily inspired by his style: t-shirts, jeans, desert boots, turtle neck and shawl sweaters, etc, but all in monochrome black. Hey Ashley, I know how you feel about messenger bags but how do you feel about the ONA Bond Street bag? It’s my go-to, and I feel like it’s small enough that it sort of feels more like a sling than a messenger bag. It’s my camera bag but I put all my essentials in.

I prefer a smart or Business casual wardrobe nowadays so will definitely check out a leather bag. I decided to upgrade from my backpack as I'm no longer a student lol...excellent suggestions! The weekender bag you showed seems harder to be stacked in the boot of a car. Wouldn't a less stiffer handle/strap make more sense?

What are some great options for a bad that can hold my laptop, notebook and so other small items. I'm not a super dresses guy, I've been very casual and I am in alot of sports and extra curriculars. I like the style of a message bag. Also don't like backpacks.

The question of the right bag is often not that easy when we talk about work environment. I have a leather backpack, sleek, minimalistic in black, which is also roomy. But when I dress up for work, then I would like a bag with only handles. Visually I think briefcase would look the best, but they are almost always too slim. You cannot even carry a bottle of water in them, only a laptop if needed and thin items. And let's be honest, we don't carry much paper around anymore in this day and age. I don't see why they make these briefcases not a bit roomier. So I also look into totes, but then again, they often look like you go grocery shopping. So yeah, my quest is still on, either for a thick briefcase or very sophisticated tote.

LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Tie three or four colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is not their luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it. Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the airport turnstile... These ribbons make your luggage different and EASY TO SPOT when the piece is surrounded by 35 other cases unloaded from the bus. Using 4 ribbons make it immediately different than other cases with 1 ribbon. Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long and not longer. Cut the ends at 45 degrees. Tie the ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5 inches from the handle. This is too short to catch on anything such as rollers. Scissor cut trim the ribbons to cascading different lengths after they are tied. Put a drop of Super Glue at the end. If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/4” the color layers will all show up no matter how they drape. You can see these ribbons from 40 feet away. Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case. Tie using a HALF WINDSOR KNOT to the metal buckle ring of the handle. Learn Half Windsor knot tying: It is the 2nd example in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jpapm5ijsKidnHk.html This knot does not loosen. Put your phone number on one ribbon using a fine point permanent Sharpie. Example: “Owner 454-333-7878” No personal name necessary. No address necessary on the ribbon. Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique. The 4th ribbon could be black color. Stand by the output port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing your piece. Tie your skiies, duffel bag, backpack and what ever else with matching ribbons-even your computer case. If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself. Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible. Pleasant color combinations: Red, white and blue Chartreuse and purple and orange Orange and light blue Orange and yellow Gray and pink Green and yellow Red and Green Red and Gold Light blue and light green and white The 4th ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan Tip #2 Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like” if someone is tasked with searching for it. Take this picture outside in direct sun not under neon lights. Tip #3 Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put TWO pieces in DIFFERENT places such as INSIDE a pocket to the case. If you dare, put your phone number DIRECTLY ON THE FABRIC Liner of the case WITHOUT USING TAPE. Or, put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape... To be sneaky about the tape, put your phone number on the STICKY side of the tape. Nothing is on the surface side of this tape. Tip #4 Put your phone number on a 2” x 1/2” piece of fabric or plastic sheet. Use colored Duct tape, such as black or red or neon, to tape this message to the top side of the handle. This message is under the tape hidden from view. The lettering does not touch the sticky part. Wrap it 2-3 times. Also include Tips 1,2,3 above. If you need to prove identity of the case, just unwrap it and show. Tip #5 ADDING UNIQUENESS 4 ribbons 1 designer ribbon colored taped handle stencil SPRAY PAINT a 2 1/2” stencil letter or number or word to the suit case exterior surface in addition to using all the other ideas here. Stencil spray paint a letter to the TOP ribbon. Use ribbons that are wider or more narrow than 1”. Put a travel sticker on the case. Tip #6 WEIGH YOUR OWN Scales accuracy varies at different airports. If you are even 1 pound over, you pay. So, regulate yourself. Found on Ebay, buy a HAND HELD DIGITAL SCALE It is less than $15. ....

I appreciate the channel but SOME of Ashley's bag takes are, in my opinon, just bad takes... an example is the notion that she thinks feet on duffles, weekenders etc is taboo... anything that can prevent the leather or waxed canvas from touching the ground is a good thing as far as I am concerned. My Hook & Albert weekender bag with built-in garment does no more damage in terms of creases & wrinkles than my bags that are solely for garments. I appreciate the perspectives but I just respectfully disagree with some of the nuance.
